Absolutely fantastic player. From all the Rangers games I've caught this season he has stood out big time (along with Panarin ofcourse). Super jealous of the Rangers having him. Have I understood correct that he's an RFA next season? What kind of contract are you guys expecting him to have? From what I've seen he looks easily worth 7-8mil/y or so..

Likely depends on whether we can buy some FA years with the contract. I'm doubtful he and his agent will want that though

to think that we could have a defense featuring tony and adam plus nils and trouba here shortly.

add key and some of the others plus ryan and libor and even yegor.

and thats subtracting staal and skjei.

my only concern is adding a LD who can make the front of our net less like an inclusive beach resort.

i really like the potential of this blue line if we can figure that last one out. (fire ruff)

Namestnikov could’ve easily been shipped for a bag of pucks at $3m. Instead we waited for a 4th from Ottawa? We should’ve taken nothing or even given up a late pick with Names to clear that space. Gorton could have absolutely have made it work but he didn't want to commit to DeAngelo when he should have.
Sorry, this is conjecture. I believe that if he could have been traded, he would have And as for when was the right time to commit, hindsight is nice. There was nothing wrong with wanting to see another solid year from him, production wise and attitude wise.

I can blame Gorton for a lot of things. The Shatty contract(6million next year), Trouba, Skjei,Smith all terrible contracts. With the emergence of ADA that is gonna be a problem
Again, this is being viewed with hind sight. Virtually this entire board wanted Trouba. And saying that it is a bad contract is early, no?

Most here were clamoring for Smith after that playoff showing. Most here were crowing at how good of a deal the Shattenkirk contract was.

I was fine with the trade but the contract I hated from the get go. Smith I never wanted to resign. She yet Shatty wasn’t a terrible contract BUT we should have started the rebuild a year earlier, we weren’t good enough then

That may not have been your viewpoints but the majority around here were cheering the moves.

That is a different tale. I cannot see half of the defense being smallish puckmovers.

the new nhl affords that opportunity.

karlsson
makar
krug
hughes
ellis
letang

all guys who are under 6 ft and 200 lbs. and who are more similar to a 4th forward on the ice.

don't disagree that theres a need for some ying to that yang. would need trouba and 2 defensive lefties to play defense when those 3 venture up ice.

i think ryan lindgren can evolve into a key part of this defense. so we need one more.

Depends on a pairing. Trouba with ADA while Fox and Lundkvist with Rykov / Hajek / Lindgren / Miller (eventually) provides both size and puck-moving on all pairs. Not ideal I'd prefer a creative solution vs. losing one of these RDs.

I think that there will be a solution. And it will be moving assets to get other assets or to shore up weaknesses. I cannot see half of a starting defense being comprised by smallish puck movers. Could be wrong, but do not see that as being part of Gorton's plan.

Yeah, but the detriment of having a smallish half of the defensive core is less than a benefit from it being a top-notch puck-moving and offensively talented.

I get it. But again, I am pretty sure that open spots will be filled with the type of players who take care of their end first and not think that they are a 4th forward.

Look, I could be wrong, but I highly doubt that plan is to have nothing but smallish puckmovers. Or even half of the starting 6 as such players.

You keep saying nothing but smallish puckmovers and that's the part I don't get. Trouba, Skjei, Rykov, Hajek and Lindren are not small.

We were talking about the possibility of DeAngelo, Fox & Lundqvist all being a part of the plan for the future defense.

K'Andre Miller is certainly not small either
And isn't the primary reason people care about size that small players get pushed around? Because DeAngelo is no slouch in the grit, physicality or fighting department either.
