So Quinn’s treatment of him helped get him here or no?

Asking for a friend

it’s possible. Or he’s on his best behavior for a contract. Only those inside the Rangers org can tell.

the kid is playing really well though.

Looking at this current defensive roster and what’s in the pipeline, we’re going to have a log jam real soon.

Hank will start next game vs Blues. Book it.

Give Shesty a chance to ingest and reflect......and rest.

Poor Georgie boy. Being dissed and seems to be odd man out......for now.

smh - the only one who should take the hint is Hank IMO.

I think he’s lucky the NY media doesn’t follow hockey like the local football and baseball teams.

Quinn with some nice words

definitely doesn't sound like a guy the team is looking to trade lol

remember the time when people said quinn should be fired to picking on tony cause of maturity issues and then a year later tony was a much better player and quinn raved about his maturity...good times :naughty:

jokes aside, on insider trading, bob mckenzie mentioned that the rangers aren't in a rush to trade lias cause they don't want to set a bad precedent for other players to think they can do the same...well in a way, the deangelo situation could be the exact opposite in terms of positive re-enforcement. last year, tony could have pouted and said that quinn was picking on him or being unfair, etc but instead he took it to heart and was motivated by it. he did what was asked of him, now he's significantly better on the ice and you've got quinn, strome and (i think) kreider raving about his character in the lockerroom. I think rewarding him with a big contract this summer sends a great positive message within the organization to guys what happens when you do what is asked and work hard.

Yeah for some reason people are disregarding how good DeAngelo is, I don't get it. He's now 5th in the league in scoring for defensemen and he's 24 years old in his second full/real NHL year.

Guy has some stuff about I don't like and he's never going to be a fantastic defender but holy crap you don't just go looking for excuses to trade a 60-70 point defenseman!

You do anything you can to find a way to keep him and yeah that includes moving him to his off side or trying Fox or Trouba there, whatever it takes.
People are also overlooking what he has basically been doing for an entire calendar year.

I have an interest in finding a human eraser like defensive partner for him and not so much in looking for who makes for a good trade partner.

925,000

that is all

An serious mistake, especially with Namestnikov shipped away for nothing as early as he was. DeAngelo could’ve been a $3.5m x 4 year contract and one of the top steals in the NHL. Many people here believed that was the right move. Now we have a situation we shouldn’t be in. It’s not a bad situation necessarily, but it could have been a special signing.

lets make sure we pay him and keep him around.
I think the tricky part for Gorton & JD will be deciding if they can sign him long term now, or go to market comps in arbitration and kick the long term can down the road when Henke, Staal & Smith are off the books.

Reijo Ruotsalainen and brian leetch.

thats the type of player this kid can become.

but with that jersey attitude
And yet, it's been toning down that attitude and playing more like a professional that's been IMO the biggest key in his taking the next step over the last 10-12 months. (Which is not to say he's eliminated the sandpaper; just applied discretion in its use.) Look at how he's cleaned up his SM posts over the last year or so, and his between periods interview last night.

There are subjects where he and I may always disagree (though, given how quiet he's been recently, maybe he's evolving...? :naughty:), but I can definitely appreciate his growth as a player and, importantly, a professional.

TDA-Fox absolutely needs to be a pairing for at least a few games. They laugh entire teams off the ice when they are together.

best value in hockey right now and doing exactly what he needed to do.

having a huge year and proving to this organization hes matured as player and person.

could not be happier for him. always was a fan and continue to root for him.

It just means the rangers shat the bed on this one. Could have had him for longer term for a few extra million, but Gorts somehow couldn't get rid of Namesnakov for a bag of pucks during the summer.

I actually don't have an issue with how the Rangers handled his contract

He made progress last year but there was no way to guarantee he would keep up that play

He's proven that he can play at that high level now consistently and he'll be rewarded for it

This. He has taken a massive step on a personal level. The maturity shown has been great. Gotta love seeing that.

Can't reallly blame Gorton here. The move allowed an instant bit of flexibility under the cap. Plus, Gorton could have wanted to see if ADA can continue to do what he did in the second half of last year.

That is not something that I would wish for long term. That is a very weak defensive pair, one that can easily get out muscled around the net and hemmed into their own zone. They may look great against the Devils, but not a pair that I would want out against Boston.

So how exactly is that Gorton's fault? It takes TWO parties to make a trade. What did you expect? For Gorton to go to some other teams with Luca Brassi and assure them that either a trade or their brains will be on the paper?

I’m a believer that if you have the cap space and it can be allocated to safe and meaningful value, you use it. Keeping Namestnikov for a short stint at the beginning of the season was a total waste and that space should have been used on a real asset, whether that be Lemieux, DeAngelo, or longer term with Buch.

The amount of time that the Rangers kept Namestnikov may not have been up to them. I am pretty sure that Gorton would have traded him earlier if he could. But the deals were not there. When one presented itself, he was moved.

Namestnikov could’ve easily been shipped for a bag of pucks at $3m. Instead we waited for a 4th from Ottawa? We should’ve taken nothing or even given up a late pick with Names to clear that space. Gorton could have absolutely have made it work but he didn't want to commit to DeAngelo when he should have.

I can blame Gorton for a lot of things. The Shatty contract(6million next year), Trouba, Skjei,Smith all terrible contracts. With the emergence of ADA that is gonna be a problem

Players that were looked to be even more shoe-ins than DeAngelo have failed to live up to their contracts. There's no guarantee with anyone. But, yeah, he's been doing it consistently now for a while, so by that indication, he ought to be paid.
