That pass off the back boards he made to kreider is something most defenseman only dream about trying let alone executing

again, without sounding like a broken record, he’s perhaps the best passer on the team. His vision is top notch.

Tony’s gonna Tony when it comes
to defensive gaffs that’s a given, but he’s so off the charts offensively it really isn’t an issue anymore.

Sometimes everything just finds the back of the net and every pass is a goal, but he’s been doing this all season.

A couple of those goals were legit snipes too.

First time that goal was scored was from the Sedins that I can recall. That's the kind of skill you're talking about with that play.

DeAngelo arriving a top offensive d is possibly the biggest thing this team has had all season, and that's with Panarin and Zibanejad going next level great.

we all hate bridge deals but a contract is a two way street. TD was likely was looking for a lot more long term than the Rangers were offering. Based on his history it’s tough for the Rangers to commit. Especially considering the pipeline.

Now, TD looks real good and does this make Trouba expendable? His full NTC doesn’t kick in until after this season.

Regarding the first half of your post, it was very predictable Tony was going to have a big breakout year this year, after his second half from last season. It was moronic the Rangers brass didn't realize this and instead decided to pinch pennies by keeping him on a one year deal in a season that is largely irrelevant. Now we are going to have to pay him much more then what we could have had him for. It was easily foreseeable as I, along with various others on here predicted.

Regarding the second half of your post, yes, Trouba is expendable and should be moved. He has been underwhelming. That trade and signing was always a gamble. Trouba has been inconsistent his entire career and largely underwhelming for much of it. He's a fine player, but with the emergence of Fox and ADA's unreal offensive season thus far, there is absolutely no reason to keep him with Lundkvist and others in the pipeline. Move him before the NTC.

Lol

Fox and ADA wouldn't be playing this well without Trouba taking a lot of the tougher assignments without a proper d-man next to him. He's been fine.

It'd also be a hugely bad look trading him not even one season when they got him and before his NTC kicks in.

About that pass Tony said he kinda flubbed it so I wonder if it would have connected had he hit it clean.

I am friends with Tony on facebook lol

Back in 2012 I went to see Sarnia play and was waiting by the Sarbia entrance from the dressing rooms for Galchenyuk to come out I am a huge habs fan Galchenyuk was nowhere in sight all of a sudden Deangelo comes out of the gate and he asks me and my friends how we are doing and the first thing that came to my mind was to ask him if Galchenyuk was playing or not he missed the last game and I was worried he told me no sorry man he isn't playing and skated away and I was so mad about it because that was the main reason I went to the game Galchenyuk was in fact playing Deangelo must have felt disrespected by me haha and funny thing is Galchenyuk was late to come out so I thought he was serious for a long time I ended up adding him on facebook that night and for some reason he accepted I had no idea this guy would end up being the Rangers best defensemen one day pretty cool

Fox and DeAngelo have combined for 5 minutes of PK time this season.

Fox is getting sheltered to hell in home games, but even in away games where we can't direct matchups Fox has by far the best defensive impacts of all our defencemen. This checks out with my eye test as he often looks like prime Strålman defensively.

We should try him in the #1 matchup role and give him PK time to see how he fares. If he can handle it better than Trouba, then moving Trouba before his NMC kicks in should be something to look deep into.

Never going to happen.

Trade for a real top pair LHD, Roll DeAngelo-Fox as your 2nd and decide the 3rd pair internally. Problem solved.

As good as Fox has been, I just don't feel he can handle the other team's top forwards consistently yet. Not based on anything but feels.

A real top pair LHD equates to what contract? I mean if Trouba is at 8M, what is the equivalent LHD cost, 8 or 10M cap hit?

Eventually, given the raises which will be due to the current entry levels, someone on D is going to end up a cap casualty and it's not going to be Trouba once his clause activates. I could foresee another deal where they end up with Girardi/Staal instead of say Yandle/Stralman.

I’m fine with Skjei until Miller is ready. I’m not spending any big money on a left dman until I know more. I much rather pay deAngelo and eventually Fox when needed.

I remember the agita here when he held out.
YEAH, ME TOO. I was one that was literally begging Tony to "bite the bullet" for now.......come back and play. Everything will sort itself out. He did, and has produced more than admirably, and NOW eventually will get paid as one of the most productive offensive defensemen. His defense has gotten better........and still time to be even better there. Offensively? HA! Blowing away the Burns and Karlsson's of the league.
Kind of unfair to Burns and Karlsson though. The Rangers are well on their way to being quite the offensive powerhouse.
Yet to be shutout as I speak. Ruh oh, ruh oh. Uggggh. Did I jinx us?

I think Zadorov would be a really good fit for us
He would be, but fits in on the third pairing. Though if you have Trouba on the first, Lindgren on the second and a Zadarov on the third, it should be more than enough to compliment the skill

I agree with you, but in the future I do think the NHL will be heading this way. Or maybe it just seems like that because we have a surplus of legit, small, puck-moving D, while other teams may not have that.
I think it is the latter. There is still a need for size and meanness from a defenseman. Granted, today they also need to be able to have the skills that players like Jay Wells or Derian Hatcher never had.

I do not think that you can roll out with Fox & DeAngelo as a second pair. One of them, sure. But not both. They need to be split up. Way too much of a defensive liability if both are on the ice at the same time. Not to mention how easy it would be for the opposition to go along the boards or retrieve pucks from either corner if both are on the ice.

In addition to the excellent logic, it's highly likely Trouba also has an unofficial no-trade commitment from the Rangers this year.

our defense features 3 rooks.

foxy
lindy
hajek

plus marc staal who is the worst defender in the league per his metrics.

were young but i expect us to be much better when staal is gone and the yutes are one year older and more experienced. bite the bullet but see what brady skjei would bring back. he dumb.

yet somehow we lead the league in points from defenseman.

fire lindy ruff. thats your best impact move for the defense.
