If ADA can be a more pain in the ass version of a prime Dan Boyle, I'll take that all the way to the bank and be thrilled.

For me, THAT is the outcome I want and one that is quite possible.

I'd want less rover, yet like the pita.

I think ADA is likely to be around a ~40-45 point defender per 82, if he can learn to PK even as 2nd unit, and still keep that sort of production, that would be an ideal outcome.

Amazing season by OPT (One-punch Tony)!

It’s remarkable how well he process the play infront of him. I wouldn’t park his potential at 40 pts per season. Compared to like the young Swedish Ds I’ve closely followed over the years he stands out in very good competition in that regard.

After his trips to Vegas and Jersey Shore he should be working on his shot all season.

Vital offseason and he needs to know he’s not done. It would be great if he could hit the weight room a little more and spend nearly every day taking shots. But truth be told, I would rather see him take the next step in his defensive play (even though it’s already much improved) than have a good shot or good strength.

I just happened across video of De Angelo's fight with big #42 on the devils last season. I'm not a fight fan, per se, but I do enjoy seeing David humble Goliath.
You could see the big guy smirking "who's this little guy trying to fight big me?" And then every time he tried to make a move he got knuckles in his mouth. It wasn't a particularly violent or shocking fight. Just funny seeing a guy utterly shocked to get beat up by someone half his size.
I think the guy on the devils was Scott Farkas.

I wonder if the rangers aren't trying to free up enough money to do a three year deal with De Angelo. It would be perfect I think. The rangers get lots of upside without a huge risk and De Angelo comes off that deal - if all goes well - as a UFA in perfect position for his big contract. I'd think 3-ish per year would be a fair number for three years. 3 years $10m?

ADA will be the #1 RD on our team. I don’t see Fox nor Lundkvist being better than him. It’s weird how many people on Ranger twitter want him gone lol I’m sure I know their reason
Troubas better right now...but I'm with you man . DeAngelo being criminally underrated

I'd be locking him up long term if possible.

Here's how Luszczyszyn describes him in his preview piece in the Athletic.

...the emergence of Tony DeAngelo should help. Though he’s one of the league’s weakest defenders in his own zone (hence the low valuation), he had a very strong second half as an offensive driver and is one of the league’s most gifted puck-movers. He’s in the 98th percentile or higher for shot assists, zone entry percentage and zone exit percentage, putting him in very strong company league-wide over the past few seasons.

Pretty much jibes with how I view him as well. The good with the bad.

Wouldn't touch a long-term ADA contract for a variety of reasons. 1 yr/900k, then maybe like 2/5.5 or something if he keeps playing well.

Not understanding the lack of hardballing this dude. You rarely need to keep guys minding their Ps and Qs in hockey but this one you literally did a season ago, way too much goodwill being given for a nice 2/3 of a season.

I can also only agree on ADA, although I consider Lundkvist even better (being a TWD).

ADA is a rather pure offensive defensemen, that shouldn't really see any PK time if you ask me.

Key factors remain discipline and opportunity, which are unfortunately related. I love the aggressiveness.

Exactly how I view D'Angelo. He needs to improve his defensive play dramatically.

The good news is that I think this can happen. He was better offensively last year than he has ever been. His defense did show some signs of life. With Trouba and Fox on board, I think there will be less pressure for him to perform.

Frankly I'm more worried about the left side right now. Hopefully I'll be over that by Christmas

If you watch ADA when he "squares" off to fight you immediately see that he has had some fight training. His balance is superb. He seems relaxed and his punches are well aimed. His head stays up and he reads his opponent's moves.

Maybe he just learned to fight from being a wise a**. My guess is he has been to a boxing gym to learn this ability.
