Punching babies surely shouldn't be the bar, but you are also setting an incredibly low one and trying to claim it is backed up by his various benchings this year when according to everything Quinn has said publicly, it begs to differ.
Come on. You know perfectly well it's because Quinn does not like skilled players.

we dont give up on him because his numbers say he doesnt prevent dzone entries and just the same, we dont give up on him because quinn doesnt like his "maturity" what ever that means.

quinn (over)plays his favorite guy inspite of some horrendous metrics (like really bad) because that guy "gets it" i guess and practices with" intentions" and doesnt make "immature" mistakes.

however, we are tying to win hockey games not garner votes for prom king.

77 is part of the long term solution. end of that story. keep on him and keep playing him.
Who exactly are you even responding to here?

Also almost everytime you comment on ADA you say stuff like this. Stuff that's either categorically false or at best it's arbitrary/subjective... and yet you put it forward like it's fact.

You always ignore anything reasonable and you always assert that it must be that Quinn has some kind of unfair agenda here.

Also, we're trying to win? What? We got a literal letter telling us we were supposed to develop a culture with young players while trading away vets (i.e. losing)

We're trying to develop kids. Now is EXACTLY when they should be getting limited minutes/benched so that they can learn at the right pace.

You remember the Stionk bandwagon from last year ? Look at his point per game ! why you hatin Mouth ?

Now we got Tony DeangeNO. So impressive with a ton of assists in meaningless games when the team is utterly horrible.

Then when he is counted on by his teammates to show up to practice he lets them down. This guy would be a 7 on a good team. I will see you next year when DeangeNO is struggling and not getting along with the coach because this is where it is all heading. I hope he gets traded in the offseason.

Yea you're very smart. World's greatest detective.

Now when are you going to figure out how to put forth an idea so you're not universally mocked and disliked?

Unlike Pionk, Deangelo's underlying numbers have been great basically the whole season

What are the chances in seeing him play, for the USA squad, in May?
I think Talent wise he should make the team... It depends on how the team putting together the roster views his "Personality".. Also who else is available in the offensive defenseman mold.

Remember Keith Yandle was left off national teams forever because he was seen as too offensive(ie bad defensively) and not gritty enough for the Red White and Blue. Hopefully Team USA starts to move away from that nonsense and pulls the best players

If Tortorella coaches team USA again I bet he’d LOVE DeAngelo

I have to give major, major props to Quinn. We’re seeing everything come together for ADA. Day by day, he’s getting better and better. As the season nears to an end, I don’t think we could have asked for anything more from Quinn and ADA. This was the best case scenario, and I don’t understand anyone that is still mad at Quinn. He has turned this guy into a top 4, all-around defenseman, who still has top pairing upside. Sure, Tony has always had the talent, but Quinn groomed him and turned that talent into results, something AV and many other coaches would not have done, whether they lacked the patience or were incapable of doing it. Quinn did an A+ job and dare I say, went above and beyond my expectations.

It was exactly what I’d hoped for when the season started.

Quinn met with him, made it a point to work with him, tough loved him into a great young RD.

Everyone said “Yeah, yeah, yeah - he needs to put up points!”

He put up (over?) .5 ppg when he was yo-yo’d on and off the bench - that is incredibly impressive to me.

Hope he puts up 50+ next year and just closes the book completely in everyone’s face forever.

Good for him, battled through adversity and is emerging as a great, tough hockey player.

I really don't go for goonery in general but I do enjoy a talented player who can stand up for himself. Particularly against apes who are cynically inserted into the lineup to "intimidate".
Same here. Not a fan of putting players in the line up that aren’t good at much besides fighting, but if you have the talent as well, it’s a no brainer.

Although as people, most enforcers are good guys with big hearts. I’m sure 99% of them would rather be relied on to play a scoring role, but to stay in the NHL, they had to fight.

It's simple minded coaches who see a big guy and say "hey, you, go make something happen".
That said, the guy D'Angelo fought was running around like a nutcase. He wasn't interested in anything but finding someone to run. Not sure if that's on the coach or not. I think sadly Tom Wilson's contract has given any big guy some bad ideas.

He fought a guy almost half a foot taller and twenty pounds heavier than him. The kid is a lunatic, but I love him

One-punch Tony

Pionk will also drop them with anyone, fought someone 6'5 in the AHL.

No matter what you think about fighting and goons and what not, its not negative to be a little assertive in this area.

ADA is one bad ass ...probably realizes the only legal way to get his anger issues satisfied is a fight in an NHL game. He is lethal and has great technique. He is right up and close to his opponent with short straight jabs that can cause damage.

As long as it isn't the only thing they bring to the game like Glass, McLeod, Newbury etc. Those players are a waste of a rosterspot

I'm pissed we never got to see a DeAngelo-Marchand bout this season.
Marchand would be a fool to fight Tony tbh, he’d probably get dropped, badly

I think we have the two best pound for pound fighters in their weight class in the league. And they’re good players outside of that. We blessed up right now :D

He took a player Tampa and Arizona (who have/had highly respected coaches) did not think they could "fix" and is sorting him out....

Quinn deserves major props for this. And as much as I don't want to, I have to give Ruff some credit for helping develop his defensive game.

Right now, I think ADA is as good as Shattenkirk defensively if not better. This means he will stick. Experience will continue to do wonders for him.
