He is 23, not 25.
Oh crap, my bad. Still applies. He is "in that age group" but those 3 or 4 years difference is still significant as he is "leading the way" and needs to be a better example for those younger. I would bet anything that Quinn has actually suggested that to him. Trying to get him to realize others may be looking up to him. Thanks for correcting me. No sarcasm.

One year in college I went for Halloween as a Rangers fan. I had a paper bag over my head with a frowny face drawn on and I carried around a bottle of booze.

If I had to sum up my life rooting for the Rangers, that would be it.
Sounds like you were "in the zone", playing your part very well.

I went to college from 2000-2004. That sounds exactly like me, not just on Halloween though.

The DeAngelo decision is becoming more and more difficult, especially with the way he has played over the last 6 weeks. He's been one of our best players. But there has to be some alarm within the organization that, even with big minutes and playing very well, he still can't go more than a few weeks without some sort of maturity issue popping up.

It's the same old story with him. Is the juice worth the squeeze when it comes to weighing his on-ice performance with his off (and sometimes on) -ice antics.

He's made a more compelling case for himself over these last 6 weeks. But man, he's 23 years old. Wise up. This shouldn't still be an issue.

Just reinforces the need to bridge him imo. This is exactly what those kinds of deals are for - guys who are promising but have a lingering question mark.

until we are aware of what his transgression was, im going to withhold judgement. this benching reinforces nothing for me either way. at all.

im curious to know what the 'maturity" thing was that he did or did not do. until we know, its just more of the same tony d drama.

hes just too damn talented to obsess over whatever it is that he did this time. the last 6 weeks of being our best dman gives him alot more leeway in my eyes.

They have to make a decision if he's worth the trouble.

His play recently points to him being a worthwhile piece to keep around, but two other teams have moved on from him for behavior issues, so there's precedent

I personally think he's worth the trouble. I'd imagine the Rangers are doing everything to keep him around until he gives them a reason not too.

His improved play makes the Stepan trade look way better

Definietly worth it imo. From what Quinn said this is very minor and probabaly wouldn’t result in a scratch if he weren’t already looking to get Claesson in.

With Quinn's coaching style and the fact we aren't in win-now mode there's no way I don't keep Tony around. His skill and potential is above and beyond anything we have in the system besides possibly Miller. Let Quinn keep working with him and getting him into line. He may not be perfect but his game is rounding out and ideally the attitude comes around as well. I don't lock him up long-term but give him a few years to prove himself. It may bite us in the rear in a few years if he turns into a top-tier D-man but at the same time if we sign him long term there's just too much risk right now. If he totally tunes out and turns into a locker room cancer you're stuck with him.

I know part of this is new-coach syndrome but Quinn seems to be doing a great job developing the kids. Tough love for sure but he's creating an identity for the team that has boundaries and making the players stay within those boundaries, on and off the ice.

Source?

I don't have links but it was reported that his behavior led to Tampa trading him. While he may have still had issues in Arizona, I think it may have had more to do with what we were asking for than them giving up on him.

Pretty damn clear:

DO NOT UPPER DECK THE COACH'S PRIVATE LAVATORY

Despite Uncle Larry doing his best grumpy cat impersonation, I have little doubt the Rangers are focused on investing in ADA.

I see no indications that this kid is the forgotten man.

If they wanted him gone they woulda just waived him a long ass time ago.

As for this last benching, it's almost definitely for being late to practice or missing the bus from the hotel or something. "Small thing". "Non-negotiable." Pretty obv its a 'professionalism' slip.

My guess is he was the last to arrive somewhere.

At the end of the day, this is just like any other job.

You show up late, you're reprimanded
You fail your deadlines, you're reprimanded
You don't carry out your assignments, you're reprimanded

What's also like any other job, is that the manager (head coach) just likes certain employees more than others and will never be 100% objective when judging them.

Totally in agreement with your post. Great points to bring up. I brought up a point about Gorton during the trade deadline and a similar one for Quinn holds as well: Ultimately Quinn will not be judged on whether he scratched ADA for a couple games here or there this year, or if he gave way to many minutes to struggling players (Howden, Pionk). He will ultimately be judged on the growth of the team in general and the forward direction (or lack there of) of the younger players development. If this team has a bunch of players reaching their potential in 2022-2025 then nobody is really going to care about that time that ADA was scratched for a couple of games in 2019

I think we do have to be careful about blowing all this out of proportion. We have ppl on here who think it's a travesty that Quinn has sat ADA a few times and the franchise is thus doomed. Conversely we have the ppl on the other side of the equation who think ADA is a cancer/lost soul who should be jettisoned to the sun because he was sat for a few games.

It's just more likely that Quinn and ADA (and Gorton for that matter) don't think this is that big a deal at all....yet ;)
