Nice try. You wrote that in response to the rumor that the Canes’ owner stepped in to prevent the trade, not because Briere and Waddell didn’t come together on a trade. You couldn’t have possibly been saying that TDA was “pretty much” unemployable because Carolina was the only team with any interest in him, since that’s as newsworthy as “Sun Rises in East.”
There was only one team that even thought about trading for him and that was contingent on the EK trade not happening. This was all known even before Dundon said hell no. TDA was pretty much unemployable in the NHL. That was my statement. You are adding it was after the fact when in fact it wasn't. Dundon just put the final nail in the coffin.

Yep. Loved that attitude from afar. We need that here! He cares! Sticks up for teammates.
Except when he’s getting in fights with them.
oh wait, he’s just a jerk. Who could have known?

Last response was kinda to both posts.
C’mon automerge!
The irony is that TDA was on his best behavior last season, he just was brain dead.

Daniel B. strikes again! He need to get something for players like TDA even if he would have retained 50%... Hextall got a 3rd for rinaldo and 2x 2nd for timonen who dont even played for the blackhawks in the playoffs after the trade!

Let’s avoid these situations in the future. I used to think Fletcher was mediocre. He was far far below that.

Always optimistic - but maybe this frees space for the Canes to add what they REALLY need. Konecny

Considering how bad his defense was in the last two seasons, I still have no idea why they would go for someone like TDA. For a team that prides itself in overall great defense, why add a guy that will f*** up what they have?

They use TDA the same way they used Ghost, as a 3rd pair offense first D-man who they shelter from tough matchups and give them primarily O-zone shifts.

Ghost was a 2nd pair dman there. He played really well actually.
TDA wishes that he could play as well as Ghost. He’ll be a mess on the third pairing because he’s the worst defensive defenseman in the league. He’ll be on the second PP and overplay his game causing breakaways going in the other direction. It’s like Carolina didn’t look at his play last season to see what a disaster he is at this point in his career. Brindy may be able to get a lot out of his players but the guys need to have something positive there to be brought out. TDA doesn’t have it.

#new Error of Orange...

hahaaa

oh you forgot to include buyout penalty...
Yeah, it's slightly worse than that.

After next season, Carolina will have paid DeAngelo a total of $2,675,000 for two seasons worth of games.

After his buyout is done, Philly will have paid DeAngelo a total of $8,333,334 for ONE season worth of games.

That's so awesome  These guys are so lucky they could play hockey at one point. They could run a hot cake stand into the ground.

Pretty crazy the difference between what the Canes did and what we did regarding Ada. Then add in our Ghost for Risto swap and it's wasted assets for a worse Dman.

It really is a case study of pissing away assets for no reason at all.

Some may say these were mistakes, others, not so much.

Actually he was decent when paired with Seeler in a sheltered role.
The problem in Philly was Fletcher had a fantasy that he was a top 4 D-man who could be given real minutes - and he was exposed.

Which is why you have to be careful with metrics, there's a group of players who are fine in limited roles (Gudas is a perfect example) who can't handle tougher matchups on a regular basis. Smart teams know that and use them correctly, which inflates their metrics (reason you should check strength of competition and O-zone starts). Dumb teams ignore that and can't figure out why the player looks so bad in a bigger role.

Question is was this Chuckie's opinion or did the pro scouts misjudge TDA?

No he wasn't decent. Ever.

Yes it was Fletcher. He has made a career out of misjudging players and giving out bad contracts.
