Minnesota is stacked with injuries, and have just lost 5 straight! In what world do upj think wild are going to trade a player they just drafted last year who they traded up for in peart? Marat, and O'Rourke are also up there

what are you talking about? MN would easily give up any of the players listed and a 1st to have hertl for a cup run. we arent "stacked" with injuries....

Hertl’s point totals are “low” this year because his most common linemates have been Barabanov, Balcers, and Gregor.

Barabanov has been surprisingly good, but Balcers is a 3W and Gregor is a 4W.

Barabanov is also a UFA and should be available too. Not a liability in his own end, good playmaker and has been on a 56 point pace since coming to SJ.

Damn, it's incredible that it was only two years ago that the Hertl/Kane/Donskoi line dominated out there and look who is flanking him now.

Is it a certainty that Hertl leaves though? I would think if anything the Sharks would be focused on re-signing Hertl ahead of everything else?
Seems extremely likely at this point. Hertl wants to be on a playoff team, SJ isn’t and doesn’t look like they will be anytime soon.

Sheng also said he hasn’t heard of any contract discussions during the season and if Hertl isn’t signed by the TDL, DW can’t afford to let him walk for nothing.

What kind of money and term do Sharks fans think Hertl is looking for?

Joel Eriksson Ek, jared spurgeon are out long term, cam Talbot for who knows who long. Covid now affecting team. Kaapo kahkonen as our 1 current. On 5 games losing streak with certain players not caring. Even Zuccarello admonished the team. This isn't a championship contender

Can he play LW?
If so I can see the Leafs making a decent offer
sj's pick of any prospect and Ritche

I'm sure lots of teams will be interested. The problem for San Jose is how many of those teams will Hertl be interested in?

Given his NTC, he basically controls where he wants to go, and thus has big control over the value San Jose will get.

I'm sure a 1st round pick will be involved, but just how much beyond a 1st round pick is likely going to be determined by how Hertl handles the situation.

two weeks ago we were the best team in the west. and top 3 in the NHL. pump your brakes. every team goes through losing streaks, spurgeon hasnt been great this year, and neither has talbot. they are almost addition by subtraction.

three injuries isnt "stacked"

No hyperbole, the Hertl-Thornton-Pavelski line from 2016 was probably one of the best lines the Sharks have ever had, and that was before Hertl became even more of a possession monster. He can certainly play LW, but I think it would be a slight waste of his abilities to move him to wing.

I tend to agree but IMO on the Leafs his ideal spot is with Matthews and Marner on the 1st line.
His ability to play center is a huge plus tho, in the post season a Tavares injury completely changed the dynamic of our fwd core. So having a guy like Hertl who could slot in and play well as 2c is also a big positive.

I can’t imagine there’s going to be anyone even close to as good as Hertl available at the trade deadline. This guy can win hockey games on his own and has a proven excellent playoff track record.

Filip Forsberg might he tue only one who’s close. I’d give away a significant package for the Avs to land him. He’s a player

Forsberg is a good player having a strong season, absolutely. But his team has four other players on his team hovering around a point per game. Hertl only has two, and those two play with each other and not Hertl. I won’t pretend to watch enough Preds games to know who Forsberg’s linemates are, but Hertl generally gets trash linemates while Couture gets actual good ones. Hertl has had linemates like Noah Gregor on his wings pretty much all season. The few times he’s played with Timo Meier, they’ve been pure domination. And there also the center vs. winger premium when comparing him to Forsberg.

I’m not exactly the most objective person when it comes to Tomas Hertl, but if I ran an NHL team I would literally be tripping over myself to land this guy.

I agree. Just saying Forsberg would be the only guy close in value. Centres are always more valuable too.

If you want him, the trade is going to sting and be regarded as terrible if you dont win the cup. Come offering your best prospects not drafted top 5.

Is this because Hertl can produce regardless of his linemates, or because it's hard to find linemates that gel with him?
