He already knew 2 games! 🤯

Yes because he can see through Quick's head, see where his mask is located so he can spear him in the eye.
Look, I have MS and therefore I also have a cane. I'm aware of my surroundings and am also aware of the general makeup of a human face. I could 100% hook an individual in the eye with my cane from behind because I am aware of the physics and movements that would be required. I'm pretty sure most NHLers would be nearly as familiarized with the physical construction of goalie masks as I am with faces.

I've watched Tkachuk as a Flames fan for many years and when he skates away from the net front as if he did nothing, that's when you know he did something and wants to appear innocent. It's his tell. He'll be around the net causing a disturbance otherwise. I loved him with the Flames, but I don't miss this dirty crap at all.

Flames players were sick of this and called him out, but it looks like they've let the unicorn run loose in Florida. I wonder if they'll also tire of it or if they'll embrace the chaos?

To poke him in the eye he would have had to rip off his mask, or start jamming the butt end of his stick in there. This was him probably tapping his cage to irritate him. Guys get hit harder in the boards and we don’t say “he was trying to break all the bones in his body”. Guys eyes are more at risk in fistfights.

It’s also not unreasonable to assume that yes, Tkachuk wanted to mess with Quick by tapping his cage, which should be a penalty, but also that there was no serious intent to actually destroy Quicks eyeball, since Quick is wearing a face shield that protects his face and eyes. It’s also not unreasonable to assume that Quick turned it into a Oscar worthy performance.

There would be no discussion about this insignificant event of a stick hitting a cage if Quick didn’t flop his ass off. Most players would brush this aside. The theatrics will come back to bite Quick next time Tkachuk sees him.
You are definitely ride or die on this. Yes, victim blaming is the way to go after denying reality failed.

2 seems light for a play this idiotic and potentially dangerous. If that connects with the eyeball, that could be a career ender. The fact that it was very obviously intentional and malicious should be more games.

I hope, for sake of the pride of any LA Kings players, that these clips simply omit the brawl that ensued or the fights they forced Tkachuk into later in the game.

The first contact was Tkachuk trying to deflect the shot coming in.

Let me ask you something, when was the last time you saw a guy try and deflect a shot moving his stick back and forth [ left to right], making direct contact with the mask, instead of an up and down motion. He knew exactly what he was doing both times.

Tkachuk is such a fine fella. The Panthers knew what they were doing, Keep up that basic 20g scorer come playoff time.

No longer my circus and no longer my monkey but 2 games seems about right. I doubt he was trying to gauge an eye out but pretty clearly he means to stick Quick in the mask.

He tried to get around the face protection. He doesn't get points for failing.

Yeah, in the dying seconds of a game you are losing by a goal, he’s more worried about whacking Quick in the face. He was still playing hockey then, the BS move came right after the whistle.
