I’d be wary of assuming Tkachuk’s intentions. A lot of people in this thread are saying “I’m sure he didn’t mean to…” but Tkachuk doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt here.
It depends on what we're talking about. Tkachuk doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt that the contact was accidental, but we can assume that he wasn't trying to gouge out Quick's eye. Saying that it was deliberate and undeserving of the benefit of the doubt is a bit meaningless if we aren't clear about what "it" is.

Very unfortunate for the Panthers. Tkachuk has been by far their best player. Ekblad out, Barkov in terrible form by his high standards, bombing out without making the playoffs looking possible. Just two games, but the East is a bloodbath this season.

Should have been 5. And it would have been more if Quick sustained a bad injury. That’s what annoys people. It’s never about how dangerous and intentional it is, it’s about the result. That’s stupid.
If I was Quick I'd be faking an eye injury to get that suspension longer, going to see a specialist until the suspension is announced

That's what happens when you put your trust in a POS like that to be your best player.

Isn't there a thing where repeat offender status expires? Something like if he goes clean for 50 games then they aren't allowed to use this incident as a reason for longer suspensions if it happens again ( edit: or was it a full year or a bit more? But still)
Yes and no. “Repeat offender” status is time-limited, but it only applies to how much money a disciplined player loses. A players’ full career history can be used against them to determine suspension length.

For this incident and many others, the league just isn’t going to give a long suspension if no one got hurt.

As that deliberate high stick to Klingberg shows, Tkachuk has practiced the art of delivering cheapshots while turning away to feign innocence. What kind of lowlife does that?

Clearly, he intentionally whacks Quick across the facemask first in an "attempted" deflection. Anyone honestly playing for a deflection at that point would simply pull his stick away. Instead, Tkachuk turns his blade and drags the toe across Quick's mask. When he feels it go into the eyehole, he deliberately pushes his stick down again like he's spearing a piece of debris. And then the telltale spinaway of innocence. Absolutely disgusting.

Two games is a joke.

Some of these Florida fans are goofy. Still in the phase of thinking your dirty pest doesn’t do things just for the sake of being dirty!

you’ll start to see it as it becomes a pattern and you continue to not win anything

I can’t wait to see what unfolds with Matthew next time they play. Hopefully Quickie gives him a hearty Mitch Kupcheck from behind if Chucky is trying to screen him. I’d also accept a blocker to the back of the head. Or the ol blocker to the nuts ala Corey Perry after a scramble in front of the net. Looks like Pepe has something in store for Matthew as well. Too bad we don’t have Kurtis Macdermid anymore. He would for sure make Matthew pay!

Not sure 2 games is enough to deter from doing something similar again.

lol. Look at you thinking the point of NHL suspension is deterrence.

The point is to do the absolute bare minimum possible to hopefully avoid being sued for billions of dollars in a class action lawsuit down the road for systemically ignoring player safety.
