I remember them interviewing Papa Tkachuk the last Florida vs Ottawa game and he was saying how proud he was of both sons because of how good of a person they are. I wonder if he selectively edits out this type of stuff from his memories.
Many, many, many hits to the head in his career.

Also the go-to response of parents everywhere who have been interviewed after their children perform some act involving the police or some actual atrocity, so I think it’s a pretty normal blind spot for parents.

It’s also not unreasonable to assume that yes, Tkachuk wanted to mess with Quick by tapping his cage, which should be a penalty, but also that there was no serious intent to actually destroy Quicks eyeball, since Quick is wearing a face shield that protects his face and eyes. It’s also not unreasonable to assume that Quick turned it into a Oscar worthy performance.
Ever been poked in the eye? With anything less dangerous than a hockey stick? I’m a Ducks fan who takes joy in Quick having meltdowns and your take is about as bad as it could possibly be here.

Title of this thread should be updated to present the facts: “Tkachuk taps Quicks face mask, and everyone reacts to a hypothetical scenario where they imagine that his eye got poked out”
It’s one thing for this to ACCIDENTALLY happen during the course of a play or even during a scrum, but to intentionally move your stick towards an opponents eyes or facial area… it’s stupidity and carelessness in its highest form. The NHL needs to send a message on this play. Then you tack on his history of dirty plays, sometimes claimed as “accidental”, and disregard for his peers… he deserves 10+ games for this.

The absence of a volume of Flames posters in here defending him and this play is deafening.

Definitely deserves something, it was a stupid move. Quick still sold it, though.

I’m pretty sure anything entering the interior of your goalie mask is going to cause panic; see the photo above? That’s pretty damning.

Looks more like a grasp for something to blame Quick for, though. Bad look. “Yeah uh that was bad but…”

I have no problem with an initial response, it's afterwards acting like his eyeball was hanging out of his socket that was the sell job. I have no problem saying Tkachuk is 100% at fault for what happened and should face the consequences, but that doesn't mean Quick didn't try to sell it to the refs.

Lmao so in an effort to "present the facts"

Is "NHL player safety reacting to hypothetical scenario where they imagined Quicks eye got poked out" going to be your new proposed title?

And then in a couple days - "NHL player safety suspends Tkachuk 4 games for hypotheical scenario where they imagined Quick's eye got poked out" will be the newest thread title?

I dunno man, it’s pretty damning.

Bit dismissive to lean on the ‘it’s a dive’ button When you can clearly see the tip of the stick hook in there. Even a little poke in the eyes is panic inducing.

Now it makes sense why Calgary traded this D-bag. Enjoy this piece of garbage Florida fans.

i've had a few cutoff disks explode in my face before and little shards blast everywhere, including under your safety glasses and dude, it's f***in panic until you figure out that you're OK. it's natural when it comes to your eyes

it's just f***in weak either way going "he shouldn't jab at his eyes, but ___" just denounce it

Tkachuk is a huge p***y. He acts like a tough guy but once the other team starts going after him he becomes a non factor in every facet of the game.

I feel like goalie masks , shouldn’t allow stick or puck to enter, so that should change.
Quick is known as a diver, but not this time.

Devils advocate here but did his stick actually hit his eye? Looks like the cage did it’s job and protected his face but IdK?
His eye looked pretty red in the time after the poke when his helmet was off.

Quick defended Brendan Lemieux after Lemieux bit a Tkachuk hand last year. Now, Quick gets a poke and we are supposed to believe that it's the end of the world. Grow up dude.
Ahhh, here comes the whataboutism.

Yep. It's pretty crazy how many people are defending this.

Heck I was cheering the Flames on and Tkachuk during the playoffs to go all the way.

Doesn't mean he isn't a piece of shit for this move and stuff like this shouldn't be in the game

I want to see multiple games suspension please
