Confirmed with Link: TJ Brodie to TOR | 4 years 5M per

No he's not lol. He has played on the right side of Gio at ES for most of his career. He occasionally played on the left with Stone but that's about it. As a Flames fan Leafs have a good one here. Should be deadly with Rielly.

Also is he crazy defensive, would you rank him top 30 in the league...hell even top 50?

All Kyle had to do was move Kerfoot for picks & sign Pietrangelo for 7.5M
Call up Brooks too fill in 3C

He didn't want to come to Toronto and certainly not for 7.5 million per year. You're clearly delusional as to what he's signing for and what Toronto would have had to pay him.

At 7.5 million St. Louis easily re-signs him for 1 million more than Torey Krug. He wants north of 8 million and probably close to 8.5 million, for 6-7 years.

Toronto would have had to trade Johnson + Kerfoot + Dermott, or Nylander + Johnson or Kerfoot, had a completely abysmal bottom 6 in terms of center depth and scoring depth and in the process their defense core would get one upgrade, while 2 of the three pairings still had major concerns.

Instead, Dubas can upgrade his top two pairings, keep his third pairing about the same (maybe a small development upgrade), add a little bit more experience and skill to his bottom 6 and not sign a contract that will be a conpletely albatross 4 years from jow as Pietrangelo enters his decline and the Leafs can't trade him while trying to find more money for Reilly, Matthews, Nyalnder and Marner in short order.

Krug signed for 6.5M so good luck on Pietrangelo getting anything 8M an over

Hmmm not sure you're up to date but Krug signed for 6.5M so good luck on Pietrangelo getting anything 8M an over

We'll wait and see. I'm 90% that I'll be right. Happy to eat my crow if I'm wrong.

No chance they wouldn't have found the extra 1.0 million per year in St. Louis if that's all Pietrangelo was looking for. He's their Captain and led the. To a cup two years ago. They would have gave 7.5 (he was making 6.5 prior to that) in a heartbeat.

He'll come in north of 8 million, for 6-7 years.

Also, Nevada, like Florida, has no state tax. So whatever he gets in Vegas (if that's where he ends up), you can bet your ass he wanted an extra 500k per year to come to Toronto. It's just the way it is.

Pretty sure he played LD with stone this year more than he was with Harmonic

His numbers with Stone were consistent as they were with Anderson/Gio/Hanifin.

Site I looked at had Brodie as the RD. Could be wrong.

Point is, Brodie was consistent with everyone he played with, the only exception being Hamonic who brought down everyone’s numbers

Kyle facked us just wait....this was such a wasted opportunity, first time in so long we had something too look forward to....this teams just going to get worse, hate to admit it.

All because we couldn't be patient & actually sign players based off lack of depth.

It's funny Kyle thought free agency worked like his draft....take the best player available, and look where it got us....11M and not one series win, plus huge cap issues atm and possibly being forced to move one of the young elites for trash...cherry on top move Kadri for nothing. BS

In a cap league, after the Matthews and Marner deals, the chickens would always eventually come home to roost. You can't have 7 shiny things. If you make your bed with 2 or 3 or 4,,, everything else must be value. No way we could afford Pietrangelo under the salary rules. We are already rushing rookie contracts and asking vets and hometown boys to take discounts near the league minimum to stay cap compliant. It's the downstream effect of paying your marquee boys a king's ransom. You better have chosen wisely..

Pretty happy with the moves so far. Now they just need to dump AJ.

Johnsson who when healthy is easily our second toughest player on offense, guy has a good shot, pass, vision, defense, finishes his hits, gets in front of the net...its Kerfoot that needs to get moved guys a soft taco, plus his offense is sub par

Flames fan here. You guys will absolutely love Brodie. Amazing human being, his wife has MS, so he made this move to be closer to family, and also your team definitely has good pieces.
He's also, outside of the odd few games here and there, incredibly consistent. Smooth skating, great on transition, and, best of all, he won't break down by year 3. He's a very smart player that knows where to be positioned and how to use his stick effectively(outside of those few games, which most defenders have).
It really hurt to see Brodie go, Treliving definitely burned his bridge with Brodie by attempting the Kadri/Brodie trade last year. We have a TJ Appreciation thread on our board, so that should tell you how highly we valued him. great deal, would have easily have paid that.
And yes, Brodie DOES play RD. He's played RD most of his career. the only significant amount of time he played LD was when Glen Gulutzan was our head coach and was damned determined on LH-RH pairings, and Brodie is MUCH more comfortable on his Right side.
You guys will love him. MUCH better than Gardiner was.

Agreed, he’s a good player, and a good fit. I think he’ll do well here. Last year we had 2 strong top 4 dmen (Rielly and Muzzin), now we’ve got 3. I’d like to bring in one more clear top-4 D, though it’d take some magic to get it to work cap-wise. But Brodie is a quality add.

Brodie-Muzzin as your 2nd pair?
and Rielly-Lehtonen your 1st pair?

Not bad, not bad look, at all TBH.
Now if you could get a true #1 SG, you are almost set.

For the future, you still need, i think 1 more shutdown d-man
and 2 or 3 great/solid bottom 6 forwards and then you are really set.
- adding "the wayne train" was a good start, not sure was bringing back
Spezza that good move for you thou...

Oh....and probably a better coach, coaching staff too.

Wow Flames fans are really sad about this news. Living in the West, I have seen many Flames games and I always have had a soft spot for Brodie. He is a very good puck mover who defends well on the rush and in his own zone. Don't know about him as a person, but it seems he is a true class act.

I appreciate this. It is really nice to see how much Flames fans seem to like him and wish him well. Best of luck to the Flames going forward

Defensively, he's prime Duncan Keith.

If he was the kind of Dman who gets six or seven wristers through from the point a game, he would be a perennial Norris candidate. But he tends to pass up shots and dump it back in to the forwards down low. Maybe some coach could get him to shoot more. I remember one game against Winnipeg he decided to shoot more. 4 points, the dome was chanting Brodie.

Don't know much about Brodie so won't comment until I see his play.

But it is most likely a good sign that flames fans are going to miss him.

That's with Simmonds being offered more and Spezza signing for literally the least amount possible in the NHL
That’s all Spezza is worth in 2020. Fair contract. Wonder why none of these fellas have this passion for the Leafs in their prime

just cause some other gm was over paying for brand name doesn’t mean that’s what he’s worth or will bring that much value. I believe SJ offered JT 14 mil. Nature of the ufa game
