Because in 4 yrs a certain someone needs a new contract and perhaps they want the flexibility? I dunno but just a guess
Presumably you're not giving him a NMC that lasts all 4 years.

Did Kyle just sign a 30year old left defseman for 5M x 4years??
We need RD....again, confused.
Rielly-
Muzzin-Holl
Brodie-
With no cap space and still one roster spot left too fill on offense, epic fail!
..... sure in hindsight, it seems disastrous. Were you saying it was disastrous at the time of the deal?Or we could have kept Kadri, and then just signed Brodie. Much better than Kerfoot and Brodie.
This signing does NOT make up for the disastrous Kadri trade.
Pretty sure he played LD with stone this year more than he was with Harmonic
Brodie plays RHD. Chill!

Keep Kadri, sign Brodie...its that easy! How do you propose to come up with the needed cap space last season? Let me guess you would have traded Kapanen, coming off a 20 goal 44 point season at 22 and who looked pretty good Vs Boston in the playoffs... remember the SH goal? Or would you have got rid of Johnsson? Coming off a 20 goal rookie season and a feisty playoff series?
Or wait... you go into the season with Rielly Muzzin, dermott, Ceci?
Come on... the deal was bad until free agency and we landed Brodie. Now the deal is better than it wouldve been if Kadri wouldnt have blocked the deal. That deal was apparently going to also include Connor Brown. Jankowski wasnt even qualified this season by Calgary.
Fact is Leafs had to do something about their Defense last offseason, and they did. It didnt work out...but at the very least, it actually turned out damn good for us. Dubas wouldve been hanged if he didnt get a defender last offseason.
What needed cap space....makes no sense?
Don't like his much. I'd rather have thinned out the depth, and gone for AP.
No one player would put us in cup contentionDon’t really see this as a move that will put us in the cup conversation. Not that big of an improvement.

Leafs needed a defender.... they didnt have cap space for both Kadri and defender.
Im lost.... now your the one not making sense, please rephrase.Huh we shouldn't have signed Tavares then, right? And we would have still been able to get a solid defensive defseman for some late pick, who clearly would have been a better fit then Barrie the guy that's afraid to get hit!
Brodie will definitely have some big shoes to fill, but I believe he can replace Barrie's impact
don't worry, I believe in Brodie. He can do itWhy are we replacing Barries impact when is was second to none lol...shouldn't been to hard

No he's not lol. He has played on the right side of Gio at ES for most of his career. He occasionally played on the left with Stone but that's about it. As a Flames fan Leafs have a good one here. Should be deadly with Rielly.Really since when?
He might switch over on the PP or a few shifts here and there but 80% of the time hes on LD....and the guys 30 x 4 years man that's gonna be hard pill to swallow when we lose again next year...
He's a bit of an idiot lolIf he's so good why did you're GM let him walk for nothing?
