Confirmed with Link: TJ Brodie to TOR | 4 years 5M per

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
It is interesting to find out from Dubas in his 2nd interview that the rumored trade last year for Brodie was never on the table. They were still in discussion stage and check with Kadri who said no.

Is there a top 4 D in the league with fewer hits per game than this guy? 0.31 hits per game average over last 4 years and trending down. SOFT, just what we need, Dubas.

If Dubas could not make AP happen I think this is a good plan B. Now if we can somehow get another top 4 d-man without giving up Nylander or Marner I am starting to like this.

I'm very happy with this and think its a much smarter move than going for AP on a 7x7 contract or similar.

Good stuff.

Pietro is kinda screwing himself, the longer he waits the less teams are in his orbit, Toronto can't afford him now with the Simmonds and Brodie signings, The Blues have moved on. Rumors have the Bruins in on OEL - they might be out.

If you are one of 2 or 3 teams with cap space and you know he has a preference for your team are you backing up the money truck? or are you waiting to see what develops? When you start to hear more rumors come out about AP, that is his agent trying to gin up a bidding war between clubs.

I think AP and/or his agent misjudged big time. For some reasons, they thought teams actually have the cap space to spend. If the rumour of the 9mil asking price is true and it was not just a nice way to say NO to Dubas and the Leafs. Pietra and his agent truly got everything wrong. Going to be really hard for Vegas to trade for cap space to fit Pietra.

OEL set his personal deadline as noon yesterday, unless something has changed.

I'm starting to wonder if the Bruins aren't the frontrunner now

While a left hand shot, Brodie plays RD.
If paired with Rielly, he will be the best partner Rielly has ever had. A win for us.
If paired with Muzzin, that's a solid looking tandem. Rielly slides to the two spot and it's a win for us even if paired with Holl (who I don't hate) as Mo would be facing less talented players.
While I see the attraction of AP, the Leafs can only control what they can control. If he wants to play elsewhere, we can't force him to play for us.
Our D today is better than it was yesterday.
There is a good chance Dubas is not yet finished moulding the D corp. If so, I can see us being better tomorrow than we are today.
Internal growth is a thing. Stronger forward contributions will improve the impact of a stronger D corp.
We're moving in the right direction. I'm happy, so far.
Sandin/Liljegren/Dermott/Holl-Andersen-Johnsson/Kerfoot/Engvall/Robertson/Amirov/Hallinder-draft picks...we've currency to spend to complete a smaller make-over than what we had to face yesterday. We're not a finished product, but it shouldn't be impossible to see this team ice a stronger, more difficult team to play against, than last year's version.

I think he's the exact type of defenceman the leafs need. Great transition player, responsible in his zone and has enough offence to keep up with the team.

I also think this is good for development of Sandin/Liljegren. Brodie is basically what the leafs hope they can become.

So Rielly, Lehtonen, Muzzin and Brodie ? not a bad top 4. I really hope Sandin gets a shot with the big club this year

I posted this late August..

"One cool little nugget about TJ Brodie.

He played for Saginaw from 2006-2010.

Leafs Jim Paliafito whose director of player evaluation was a scout at the time who became GM a few years after.

Wouldnt shock me if we signed him considering we already attemped to trade for him and Paliafito was in the Saginaw organization at the same time".

Not sure how much influence he had in this signing but hes a very important part of this management team.

As much as I shit on Dubas for his negotiations and the Kadri trade, we owe him the respect when he pulls off shit like this. Absolutely loved both signings. He's giving me some reason to believe in his "plan" 2 big steps in the right direction. Addressed our RD need and toughness with 2 signings. Obviously not done, but a good start to the off-season.

I'm stoked about this. Brodie will help solidify our defence core and we won't have to dismantle the roster to fit him in under the cap. Under our current cap structure, this was the best option out there in free agency.

I'm very satisfied with our first day of free agency. Two glaring needs addressed with impact players in their respective roles on very reasonable contracts. The fact that Brodie and Simmonds are also hometown boys is a nice bonus.

Great job by Dubas so far, and I look forward to the rest of the off season.

Idiots really still think 30 is old? Good lord.

Lmao I don't get it. We get an experienced veteran D man and people are upset that he's not some 25 year old entering his prime in UFA signing for a cap friendly contract. I honestly don't know what peoples expectations are. This team clearly lacked leadership and a veteran presence, and we got 2 guys yesterday that provide just that, Brodie also addressing the RD issue.
