That's probably another reason Fitz is throwing out that bait looking for a short-term goalie - to help make up the difference for the kids on D. I wouldn't exactly give up on Schmid being the long-term answer though.

I agree. I wonder what it would take to land Logan Thompson compared to Hellebuyck. Obviously, his track record isn't as extensive as Hellebuyck's but he's controlled for 2 seasons instead of 1 and has about 1/8th of the cap hit.

It's amazing how some teams just don't get it. Do you want to win or just collect names? There's no universe where SJ as presently constituted should have offered anything to Meier let alone grossly overpay for him to play with a NMC on a bad team forever. You build a team of players that want to win and treat them like people and get rid of the malcontents and problem children. Some guys are very good humans and just need someone to show they care which is in short supply in pro sports. The ones who just don't respond to that you let them go and keep the good ones and add to that with like minded players. In the long run it will work out.

I don't know where Timo lived in the bay area or where he plans to settle in NJ but his $8.8 million AAV will probably go further than $9.25 MM in San Jose.
