The only issue there is my hope that Holtz slots in as a 20 goal scorer finally, and without him, we still have a hole in the top 9:

Meier Hughes Toffoli
Bratt Hischier Mercer
Palat Haula ?
Foote McLeod Bastian
extra: Lazar, (Clarke/Halonen)

Hamilton Marino
Hughes Siegenthaler
Bahl Nemec
Extra: Smith

Hellebuyck/Saros
Schmid

Not sure that Clarke is that guy yet. I mean, what the heck, I'm complaining needlessly if we have that roster. We would likely have enough room for an inexpensive one/two year stopgap while waiting for Gritsyuk to come over or Filmon to develop.

Losing Holtz really sucks if he does actually pan out but I’m less certain on that actually happening. Clarke on the other hand I don’t think is ever more than a middle 6er and maybe just tops out as a 3rd liner but I think he could already play that role pretty well

Rags fans are finally losing their shit on the main board and it's glorious, I think this signing finally pushed them over the edge
I wasn`t anti rags fans man. But it was really painful to read their massage board. And I`m not talking about their feelings about Devils - it`s ok to hate Devils for them, anyway it`s better to pay respect for your opponent. But they are very rude and unfair with their own players. I believe it`s hard to wach how team from your "basement" is winning three stanley cups and than making better rebuild after you thought you made better rebuild. Feel for them.

Well, then, sign me the heck up for Vanacek, Boqvist, Holtz for Hellebuyck or Saros then. I'll even thrown in a 3rd rounder in 2025.

I don’t see any way Trotz bites on it since he’s said he needs to be blown away to move Saros but 2 years at 5 would be so nice. Not sure that package get Helle either but if it does then that’d be great. Upgrade in net for ideally a 4th liner and a potentially great prospect but also just as likely a bust

Can'T PaY aNyOnE moRe ThaN HuGHeS lmao

Nobody in here was saying Meier would get less than Hughes. Most of us however were saying Bratt would get less than Hughes. You were the only one saying Bratt was going to get 8+ and Meier was going to get 9+.

The fact that you thought the Devils would be okay with signing Bratt to a contract that starts with $9 million is just absurd.

He was signing here for less than Hughes or he was being traded, those have been and always were the only options.

And for Meier - the contract will be in the 8s. The Devils would trade him before signing him to a contract that is $9 million or more.

that Bratt take was from October when he was on pace for 100+ points.

For someone who posts the worst trades I have ever seen, as seen by me, multiple posters on this board, and multiple posters of other fans...I find this entire thing hilarious. Your takes are bad and you have some sort of weird obsession with me. Seek help!

I like how you KNEW Bratt was ALWAYS signing below $8/year, and you KNOW that Meier will get more than Hughes. Seems kind of weird to draw that (made up) line, huh?

You mean the trade propositions that have generally been accurate? Like the Meier trade where I proposed the 2023 1st + Muhkamadullin + Holtz as the offer? (San Jose substituted Holtz for Zetterlund and Okhotiuk)

And yes, Meier will get more than Hughes on an 8 year deal. and it will get done before August. 8 years, 8.25 - 8.9 AAV.

The proof is in the pudding.

Sure we don’t “need” Hellebuyck but if you can get a truly elite goalie for a reasonable price then you do it for this year.
As i understand we dont have cap. I dont think it`s a good idea to sign 30yo goalie(30+ yo goalies have bad stats, good goalies aged badly in recent time). And of course I`m worry to lose VV for one year of Hellebyuck, and as I said I don`t like idea to sign him long term. Hell\VV would be a good tandem for one year, but I`m not a huge fan to pay Holtz+Casey+1st in 2025 for one year of Hellebyuck.

In the perfect world would be great to trade Daws+Misyul+2nd pick in 2026, but we understand that we are living in the different world.

We only have 2 years of Vitek left anyway. I’d rather one year of Hellebuyck and figure something out next year than 2 years of Vitek. I said reasonable price so I’m obviously not moving Holtz and Casey and a 1st. This would be easier with Yegor still here but there could still be a reasonable price for him

at this point, if we can get Hellebyuck for a reasonable price, I am fine with pushing the chips in for next year and figuring out the rest later.

if you send VV out in any Hellebyuck trade, you should have more than enough cap space for 23-24.

I really do not want to sign Hellebyuck longterm though. I also believe that Schmid deserves a shot after what he showed in the playoffs. So its a lot of moving parts.

So, your take is that there were NO REPORTS ANYWHERE that the Devils wanted to have a salary hierarchy and have no one be paid more than Hughes? That just didnt happen?

The Devils weren't willing to pay Bratt as much as Hughes. It was either Bratt was taking less than $8M, or they were going to trade him. Bratt ended up accepting the Devils terms and taking less to stay.

The Devils wanted a salary hierarchy, but knew when they acquired Meier in order to extend him they had to be willing to accept the fact that they are going to have to pay him more than Hughes. But Devils were not more than $9M per season. Meier accepted Devils terms and settled for $8.8 after declining the $9M+ offer he received from SJS.

I doubt the ask for buck is that high I’m fine keeping this duo or bringing in buck. You have to take the shots when they present themselves

With the major re-signings out of the way, very limited cap space, and anticipation for improvement, this is going to be a LOOOOOOONG off-season.

Moves of consequence I was expecting was a Yegor trade, one forward add, a 3RD add. Already wiped 2/3. Yeah it’s going to be slow lol

Oh no!

We might not have enough money to overpay McLeod and other RFA's!

I don't think we have enough money to re-sign Wood and Graves either!:sarcasm:
When the news on Toffoli came yesterday I figured Wood or possibly Bastian or Boqvist was through here. Just no room for them. As Wood was the most expensive really I figured he’s out.

Meanwhile this Meier signing is so good. The core is in place to think credibly about a Stanley Cup over the coming years. He and Toffoli together make us so much heavier next season.

I never thought Wood was coming back here anyway
