I do have some concerns about how he could age. Power forwards age the worst but he’ll be 34 the last year and aging curve wise I believe 34 is when the big decline generally hits so he should be good the vast majority of the deal

For sure there are concerns about how his game could age. If he starts to stink in like year 7 and 8 of the contract, but was a core part of a contending team for years 1 to 6, so be it. Absolutely worth the risk.

We seriously might have the best top 6 in the league now, and 4 of them are on long term contracts. Lock up Mercer next, and our forward core is basically set for the next 3-5 years. Incredible.

I’m not a huge fan of our long term depth but when you have such a strong high end that’s less of a concern and at least for the next like couple of years it shouldn’t be bad

I was waiting 8.5-9.25. So 8.8 is pretty good to my taste.

It`s a good feeling to enter the draft with all signed core players. Without questions like "will we trade Timo or Bratt? Now? may be now? may be now?"

Over 9 would’ve been crazy. Tkachuk got 9.5 off a 100+ pt year. Even 8.8 is high in comparison to that

the thing to remember is that within the next couple years, i don't see how the cap doesnt rise fairly substantially, then continue to go up from there. so this shouldn't (hopefully) be a contract where you have to look at it in the current climate as much as normal.

Unconfirmed structure:

$12M in 23-24
$11.1 M in 24-25
$10.75M in 25-26
$7.75M in 26-27
$7.2M in 27-28, 28-29, 29-30 and 30-31.

Makes moving him at the end if need be much easier.

Hellebuyck for Boqvist, Holtz, and Vanecek

The only issue there is my hope that Holtz slots in as a 20 goal scorer finally, and without him, we still have a hole in the top 9:

Meier Hughes Toffoli
Bratt Hischier Mercer
Palat Haula ?
Foote McLeod Bastian
extra: Lazar, (Clarke/Halonen)

Hamilton Marino
Hughes Siegenthaler
Bahl Nemec
Extra: Smith

Hellebuyck/Saros
Schmid

Not sure that Clarke is that guy yet. I mean, what the heck, I'm complaining needlessly if we have that roster. We would likely have enough room for an inexpensive one/two year stopgap while waiting for Gritsyuk to come over or Filmon to develop.
