Time to Hire Barry Trotz

Hire Trotz as Senior Advising Head Coach.

He only has to go on road trips he wants to.

He can settle his family and not have to move them again, and he won't be away from them for 6 months.

Trotz=Babcock in pretty much every way.

18 minute nights from Matthews, Nylander, JT and Marner whether TO wins or loses.

Some nights Kampf and Jarnkrok might exceed 18 minutes, again, much like Babs loved Hymen.

Trotz can get a lot out of a talented lineup, like Babs, but his teams struggle without talent like pretty much any team.

TO is a talent deficient team, Cap strapped when just some wiggle room was needed because so much money was allotted to so few.

He can't though. He's only ever hired one coach in his lengthy and illustrious career.
As unbelievable as it sounds, he has no ties to anyone else.

He’s hired other coaches, be it with the Marlies or as assistants. Surely one of them could be convinced to let Justin Holl aimlessly skate around the offensive zone in exchange for an NHL head coaching gig.

It wouldn't be that much of a reduction. Ovi and Backstrom averaged 19-20 mins per game under Trotz and he helped those 2 and the rest of their core get over their perennial choker label. Sound familiar?

It's pretty clear Trotz would be a great hire for where this core is at.

the time to have hired Trotz was immediately after Zegras scored the OT winner. I don’t know what we’re waiting for at this point. I’m guessing Trotz is still busy with family stuff?

That is the question yes. Has he gotten his cave in order. If so then we have to ask do you want this group and media coverage? If the man has it in him', he's ours. The dollar is not a problem for us, we have the most and are the most richest.

He said he wants to come back basically in Jan.

It’s a bizarre interview

I want to settle my family. Take a week in the sun and come back.

I would love to coach in a Canadian market for an 06 team…..

Does he speak French?

He didn't have the stone to fire Babcock either. Shanny did it last time, he can do it again.

And then pivoted to the interesting challenge of the media with an Original 6 Canadian team. Hinting that he'd only really consider two franchises: Toronto and Montreal. The Habs just hired a coach. He might as well put up a flashing neon sign that says "HIRE ME, LEAFS!"

I'm not sure he'd work with the team they have, but it looks a lot like Keefe's lost the room, which is death for a coach. They may have to try something.

Shanny fired Babcock because Shanny hired Babcock, and they were friends before they got here. I don't think Dubas being a coward had anything to do with it.

Come in as coach, evaluate the players top to bottom, put a complete system in place that we will use that allows us to be a solid defensive team while still maintaining creative offense and move to the GM spot.

It was Dubas that wanted him fired, it was Dubas that was the GM, it was Dubas' responsibility.

Even if Shanny said he would do it, a secure, experienced GM would insist that he own his decision and see it through.
 
I’d bring in Quennville and Stan Bowman.
People will forget once the wins pile up.
