Trelivings problems were totally created by the players. The Dubas quagmire is his own doing, and I believe it's going to get much worse July 1st 2024 for whomever is sitting in the GMs chair.

Dubas seems to (over) value pure finesse ability and offensive capability which we have an abundance of at the top.

Which has always made any conversation about trading a core piece away for something else feel like a loss, even though the return is completely open ended when it comes to balance.

Furthermore, he compounds the problem by being a bit of a pack rat to certain play types. The smallish heads up utility forward with a good head for the game, good zip and no finish. The smallish offensively oriented defenseman who can handle a puck clean. We have so many of those guys at every level and they don’t really augment the core.

Please. Dubas knows jack about pure finesse. That core doesn't have his finger prints minus throwing money at it to extend their stay here.

Dubas doesn't like speed, skill, physicality or heart. Why would you even trust him to trade one of the core 4? If we do end up having to trade one it better not be him doing it.

His boss undercut him? Source?

My opinion based on the events we all saw happen.

Engvall has been trash, just because the points aren't racking up for Matthews/Marner doesn't mean they aren't playing well.

Engvall is just one example of the numerous times Keefe has disciplined everyone except for the few he's not allowed. It's more often than not Nylander that gets punished for the poor play of the group.

What is the issue with the things they can control?

The biggest issue is they play soft perimeter hockey. The on-and-off issue is they lack effort, focus, and intensity.

They have no been playing well, I agree, but Matthews' line is out chancing the other team by a fair bit, one of the best play driving lines in the league.

So you're ok with them not playing well, as long as it's better than their opponent? If I'm the coach, I want them to play their best regardless of opponent. That's one of the most consistent issues with this group - thinking then can turn it on and off whenever they feel like it. That's leads to play-offs when they can't turn it on.

Dubas will just lecture him about harsh expressions on his face and things like that. I don't think it will work.

You answered with your opinion, not facts or just ignored/misunderstood what I said, no point responding more.

The current coach won't be able to cover for the deeply imbedded roster and character issues that plague this team.

The house of cards is looking pretty shaky.

The time to hire Trotz was .. . . . YESTERDAY.
Let's get er done!!!
yeah I'm done. I have no faith in Keefe to manage a big game.

But Keefe will do just enough to get to 100 points then get out coached in a game 7. No faith in him.

This roster is the problem. Trotz would have a difficult time with it. Small team that can only play perimeter hockey.

The roster is not a bad as some would suggest. The systematic play is terrible, the times our forwards blow the zone and leave our d all alone would be equivalent to the number of times a NBA team scores in a game. Move the puck quicker, we are bottom of the league in uncontested shots, we hold on to the puck too long. Fix the speed you move the puck. Fix Sandin, the guy constantly pinches when he has no forward support, it's an every day thing, his poor decisions result in a goal against or a prime scoring opportunity against. There are A LOT of things that a new coach can fix quickly with this roster.

Sometimes you can't fire 20 players and the coach is the fall guy.
Earily similar tone to the season as the year Babs was canned.

In fairness when you are dressing the D that we played last night the team will look bad.
Holl, an over extended Gio, Reilly who is playing poorly, and Mete are not exactly a good group.

Bring him in and if the team still doesn't react well then we know 100 percent it's the players. In that case let them know none of them are safe.

Trades, they cannot afford squandering any more picks, if they do they might as well fire the amateur scouting department
I've shared that sentiment as well. I'm not sure - and that's the problem: does anyone? - know where we truly are in terms of "going for it".

We're still multiple pieces away on the wings, at the back, and down the middle (add a goalie if Murray is kaput) from pushing through. And my sense is we are on our way to a moment where things will accelerate for the better IF we can hold on.

I started a thread noting how manageable our cap becomes once we get past Tavares' contract. Our core will be in their prime still, we will have much more to spend, and it looks like the cap will have gone up by then.

But if we're obligated to swim to that island, then yeah: What's the point of expending what little assets remain if we don't have enough assets to bridge the gap?

My sense is where we really are is in a holding pattern post-Tavares contract.
