Not to play devils advocate, because I don't think Luongo's contract is ideal, but wouldn't getting Luongo make Toronto an ideal place for the upcoming 2013 free agency group?

Takes a lot more than a goalie to create a winning and desirable environment. Many players don't like Phaneuf and are turned off by his so called leadership. Not to mention Burke going up against the union in CBA talks.

But, the original quote spoke to the fact that having an elite goaltender in Lundqvist attracts UFA's.

I also hate hearing that people are turned off by Phanuef since the Calgary debacle, unless their is proff of this I hate hearing things like this.

Burke stood against the union? proof?

Burke testified against the union in the Kovalchuk case and represented the NHL in bargaining this time around. Larry Brooks had a great article about it last week. The players hate Burke and for good reason. He is pro league.

You claimed that someone was expressing that notion. Who was it? In writing I see you referring to it.

Nice try on the troll. First you claim I said something I didn't and now you are asking for whom I was referring to. Hahaha god. How pathetic.

Have a nice evening.

A simple question. One you don't want to answer because it's the typical "realist" schtick of throwing out an argument that didn't exist and holding others responsible for something that you and only you made up. If you didn't, you'd have no problem pulling up the quotes proffering the notion that Luongo guarantees anyone makes the playoffs.

There are literally hundreds of posts on this board proclaiming that the only reason the Leafs were not a playoff team is due to goaltending.

Burke's buds are so funny.

I beg you to show some proof of this.

Seeing as how Luongo said yesterday he respects Burke I think you're are making **** up.

So you can't provide me with any amount stating Luongo guarantees anything?

I vote for Thomas.

I personally like Luongo, and its very tempting, but this could backfire for us. Besides, if what LR reported about Dreger saying that Gillis has set high price for Lu, we could get burnt on the trade.

Rumours are Bozak, Frattin and 2nd. How would you feel?

Personally, I'd hold onto Lu for now if that is the best offer currently. Short season so might as well keep Lu in case Schneider crashes.

Hahaha. Do you even read this board? Not playing your silly game. Maybe when on my laptop I will post so direct quotes blaming goaltending.

dont think thats the price and it's a fake after looking it lol. still too much for my liking.

you are quoting larry brooks...the guy who is usually at the bottom of the barrell in the new york media...hell it's the NYPOST...its like bruce garrioch of the ottawa sun for crying out loud.

Brooks is on the list of the 100 most influential in hockey. What are you even talking about? Did you ever follow trades like Jagr and Nash? Guess who had them months in advance?

well dreger said the gillis is asking for too much for loungo.
I personally think in the end Mike Gillis is going to look like Scott Howson did after he traded Rick Nash. We all remember how Howson told the media he would get an A+ package of players, prospects and draft picks in return. However when he asked about players like Logan Couture, Derek Stepan, Jeff Skinner and etc he got told no they aren't available, because in the end with Rick Nash asking for a trade and the public knowing that the Blue Jackets were never getting a fair return. Howson even said he won't Nash until he gets the right deal and if so he would be there at training camp. In the end that never happened and I think Howson looked like an idiot with all his comments to the media.

Even though some Vancouver fans don't want to believe it Luongo has also asked for a trade, so why should Brian Burke give Mike Gillis exactly what he wants in return? He even said it was now Corey Schneider's team and how much more clearly is that for some people to understand? Plus just like Howson did Gillis has said the exact same things to the media that he wants the best deal possible and if so Luongo will be at training camp in Vancouver. I do realize Luongo also said he wouldn't mind that if he had to, however does anyone honestly think he wants to be there and play as their #2 Goalie? I highly doubt that. So I say in the end Gillis won't get exactly what he wants in return for Luongo.
