I find that when Canada struggles it's because they can't score. Late in the game you need a guy with a killer shot who can break open the game. The very last thing Team Canada needs is a powerplay specialist. If he wants to make the team he'll have to show that he can be an asset to the team without getting any powerplay time, and he's pretty far away from that now. He'll need to get significantly stronger and better defensively.

Bedard is a 19 year old kid playing for the worst team in the league. I was upset they didn't include him in the four nations roster and I hope he makes the Olympics. If nothing else Canada needs to invest in its young talent. The tournament would've been so good for him.

Being a center is a bonus. He’d take a role on the wing and be there in case the center got tossed out of the faceoff circle. If Team Canada needs a goal late in the game, there are many players that will get on the ice before Bedard; guys that not only have killer shots, but also other important skills like winning board battles, winning faceoffs, setting up screens/deflections, etc. Skills that Bedard currently lack (or at least isn't particularly good at). It's just damn hard to make Team Canada as a pure skill player, especially as a natural center.
Last year he was 18 years old. Yes he’s raw. But that’s all the more reason to add him. He’s going to be a key player for Canada down the road, might as well groom him now.Bedard is improving, but he's still pretty raw, as you'd expect given his age. Blown coverages, hanging on to the puck too long, getting muscled off the puck... It was pretty evident at the Worlds last year, and that's a significantly lower caliber of play than something like the 4 Nations. Honestly I think he has a lot of work to do in the next year to be considered for the Olympic team.
Beat me too it. Bedard needs to go to Costco and buy an entire pallet of beef jerky and protein drink mix and then spend every waking hour in the weight room.Grow 4 inches and gain 20 lbs of muscle.
