Still have some ragrehts not picking Drysdale over Sanderson for the mere fact that RHD are so hard to come by.
There are two top 10 RD in this upcoming draft that Ottawa could have a shot at & a couple more further down the draft like Luneau who could end up being pretty good too.

On another note: Ottawa now has 3 fifty pt players & Batherson could still be the best pt producer among them if he didn't get injured. Tkachuk should hit 60 pts before this season is over. What is this team going to look like if they can ever get everyone back & healthy?

As a coach I would challenge that player. It is not acceptable for NHL players not to learn how to pivot, how to shoot the puck, how to shift and deck and not working on your deficiencies. I watched many kids in my life, who would have a great forward speed and just stopped developing themselves, because they could outskate everyone. And never make any league. Formenton is one of those players. It is just his forward speed is the best in NHL. The day will come, when there will be more versatile players in the Senators lineup, and there will be no room for Formenton finally. I was not thrilled to draft this player from the beginning and never changed my mind. It is one more mistake by the scouting stuff, which is worst in the league.

I mean if you have proof of who you wanted to draft instead and its an upgrade on Formenton kudos to you. Me personally i had a huge hard on for Ukko - Pekka Luukkonen in that draft.

For a mid 2nd round pick we have a guy whos a middle 6 forward. Id say thats pretty darn good.

Well ya, tkachuk is at 59. It'll be interesting to see if Stuetzle does. He needs 8 with 7 remaining

Not sure if anyone else pointed this out yet but he is now tied with Raymond in ppg this season, both hovering around 0.72 right now. Didn’t think he would close that gap after the insane start Raymond had.

Yeah, there's always the next draft, but even in this case, not sure Nemec or Jiricek project in terms of potential as a sureshot #1 the way Drysdale seemed to. Plus Drysdale was expected to be able to step into NHL within D+1 or +2 year and be impactful which he clearly did, and so far all predictions about him being a solid RHD have been bang on. Sanderson definitely has blown expectations out of the water, but Drysdale would have been a) consensus BPA, b) safe pick, c) position of weakness within organization, and d) solid pick in hindsight.

Sanderson ends us up with "great pick, but are we going to be wasting him as a 2nd pairing D?" and "so who do we line up on RD aside from Zaitsev and Zub (assuming he doesn't walk in FA)?"

I'm obviously biased by Canadian media though, so I always fall for the WJ hype, whilst not knowing much about Euro prospects - unless they blow up at international tournaments like Laine/Stutzle.

We wouldn’t play Drysdale with Chabot either though, he would simply have been an RD anchoring the 2nd pair.

We’d be in the same situation looking at who to partner with him on the left side, and then what to do with Tompson and JBD.

There is a good chance that between Chabot, Sanderson, JBD, Zub, Tompson, Branstrom, that we can create a top notch top 4.

If Sanderson lives up to his potential that is…. Lol!

Probably has a good chance - only one top team (Flo.), 2 average teams (Van. & CBJ) and 4 teams below the Sens, to play.

Kid is on a tear so I am saying Stu gets to 60 points...

We prob end up with Norris there too and then next year I can see Bath and Stu over PPG with Norris a decent chance and then Tkachuk a dark horse (but with his production this year maybe better chance than I think).

Because the answer is simple. Unless you have a bonafide second pairing that is not anchored by Zaitsev, then you do not put your two best defenseman together; you spread out the talent and come at the opposition in waves.

Imagine next season we are rolling out 45-50 minutes a game of either Sanderson or Chabot on the ice? That is almost an entire game if they each get 22-25 minutes on different pairings.

31 pts in his last 34 games.

Kid just turned 20 years old and is in his second NHL season. I think #3 was #1 in that draft tbh.

Gonna be wild to see what he does next year with this added confidence, and motivation for a pay day on his final ELC year.

I think he hits 75+ pts next year.

Can't bring myself to think contracts get these guys to play harder/better but Jimmy getting a full year of Batherson will also have a huge impact on his production.

Hope they continue to get and the 5-on-5 points come more consistently.

this team needs defensive stability more than it needs RHD, And Sanderson will be the more reliable dman of the two imo. Drysdale is basically the same size as Brannstrom.

Jealous fans are going to hate. Just as we "hate" Matthews and Marner for example, it is only natural that our star players will be "hated". It is actually a compliment, the best players in any professional league are going to get harrassed, it happens in the NBA, the NFL, soccer etc.

Look at the amount of hate Crosby used to get as a young player breaking into the league, he was labeled a whiner, cry baby, and a diver.

Absolutely loved this, and even though you cannot see it in this clip, he and Tkachuk jumped on the glass at the exact same time.

Does he still think Cole Perfetti is better or...?

Probably not, to be fair he didn't hate the Stutzle pick but felt Rossi and Perfetti are slam dunks. I do find it funny he gets to say 'the model says it's unlikely he becomes a star' and then after a year and half of NHL hockey he gets to turn around and say 'look the model says he is on the way to becoming a star'.
