Stützle dominated the World Juniors both skill wise and physically. Anyone who watched that one game against Canada where he was the best player on the ice knew from that moment that this kid was a steal of a pick.

All that was missing was time, a little experience and man-strength in order to able to translate that same effort at the WJC into regular NHL dominance.
My takeaway from that game and that wjc tournament was that Stuetzle was going to be an elite skater. Quite simply he was by far the best skater in that event and we're starting to see that ability play out at the NHL level

maybe Drake can bribe the Nova Scotia boys into accepting him as an honorary East coaster :sarcasm:
Just tell them he's from Lunenburg (N.S.).

"In 1753, the British government settled 1,453 “foreign Protestants” in Lunenburg. The settlers were recruited from southwestern Germany and the Montbéliard district of France and Switzerland. These mostly German-speaking people ..."

I was worried they were going to be so damn stubborn and shoehorn him into being a winger even though everyone and their grandma could see he had all the tools to be an elite NHL center. Never like to see injuries, but thank god they kind of had to put Timmy in there for a while
They were always going to try him at centre but injuries moved up the timetable 1/4 season.

He shouldn't be playing with star talents.

He can create offense himself with his speed, but he doesn't have the IQ, playmaking ability, hands and shot to be an effective complimentary guy.

3rd line LW is where he'll thrive.
As a coach I would challenge that player. It is not acceptable for NHL players not to learn how to pivot, how to shoot the puck, how to shift and deck and not working on your deficiencies. I watched many kids in my life, who would have a great forward speed and just stopped developing themselves, because they could outskate everyone. And never make any league. Formenton is one of those players. It is just his forward speed is the best in NHL. The day will come, when there will be more versatile players in the Senators lineup, and there will be no room for Formenton finally. I was not thrilled to draft this player from the beginning and never changed my mind. It is one more mistake by the scouting stuff, which is worst in the league.

Formenton could be useful on a stocked team for 10-11 minutes a game on 3-4 line for energy and PK. But why would you have him, if Joseph and players like him for example are more versatile as third line players. And could actually cycle the puck, which is the most valuable element during playoffs.

Stutzle has to slow down even more his game in OZ. He is almost there. The league already knows that he can stick-handle the puck in a booth. I believe he is the best right now to start a break out from the defensive zone and to carry the puck through the neutral zone. His decks are a thing of beauty. As soon as he develops his OZ powers to slow down the game and make everyone guessing and make a killer pass or develops a more precise shot, he will be a number one centre in NHL. 2-3 points a game will be a routine.

Like Kucherov and Point. The best players eventually discover it's the subtle remarkably slowed down high IQ plays that trump the brilliant allusion of fast north-south hockey.

Stutzle will discover both.

Stützle has played 55 games at center. He's put up 17 goals and 43 points in that span, a 25g/65p/82g pace. As a 20 year old, playing tough matchups, without high-end offensive players on his line.

That's awfully impressive.

No reason he can't be a 70-80 point guy next year.

So glad Ottawa lost the lottery and got Stützle instead of Daigle 2.0

Remember that Rangers fan who came in here everyday telling us that if we wanted the #1 pick we would have to give them 3rd, 5th and Brady Tkachuk "just because you don't trade 1st overall picks".

He was convinced Lafreniere was a franchise forward as did many people here too. I was not convinced and was happy when we did not win the lottery and be inclined to pick him.

Dude is electric. A real game breaker.

We played pretty bad tonight but hung in there, largely because of Timmy. He turned one play on it's head, reversing a great chance against into a goal for.

He's for real. Down the road he sure looks like a 90 point, good in his own end, center to me.

I wouldn't trade any of Stutzle,Tkachuk or Sanderson individually for Lafreniere.

Along side the blossoming offensive wizardry we have a player leading the back check and putting his shoulder into the opposition.

He is this teams 1C.

Then we're in good shape because Norris is no slouch either.

Strong down the middle
Stuetzle
Norris

Strong on the back end
Chabot
Sanderson

We've got some decent wingers to go with that.

Laf may have been good with us. Rangers are not giving him the same opportunities.
In any case, i also think it was a blessing to pick Stutzle. As he get older and play against younger players, Stutzilla will burn any inexperienced d-men more often than we can dream on.

As much as I think Laf can still be a PPG winger someday...it seems incredibly unlikely he'll be better than Stutzle. We crushed that draft.

I was gonna predict 70+ points for Stutzle next year, but I may have to up that to 80 at this rate.

Stuetzle may well prove to be the best player from that draft. Right now it's probably between him and Drysdale.

But I think he's definitely going to be the most entertaining player from his draft

Still have some ragrehts not picking Drysdale over Sanderson for the mere fact that RHD are so hard to come by.
