Let's take a teenager in the NHL and blame him for having anchors for linemates which makes life so much easier for the other team to focus on the only threat when they're out there.
Well funny enough C Brown has more points in less games than Stutzle, so I wonder who is anchoring who. Agreed on Nick Paul though.

Stutzle has been given an opportunity to play regular NHL minutes at 19, on a second line completely void of any pressure about being sent down. What has he done with it other than "he is looking good, the points will come!"?

What is wrong with that assessment? Sounds like a solid status quo for a teenager with less than 82 Games of NHL hockey and still being approximately 0.5 ppg over that span.

Looks amazing at C. But if he doesn't produce, he will be the German version of Tyler Ennis...a player who always looks like he is doing something, but accomplishes nothing.

While obviously we would both agree this is a premature assessment, that is exactly what it looks like right now. Tyler Ennis is exactly it.

You sir are a well-oiled, bad take machine.

He hasnt even played a full season yet.

Zibanejad was 22 scoring 55 points and people around here were ready to give up on him and we ended up trading him pretty much nothing.

When stu is 24 he is easily going to be a top player in the league.

Would be great if some of his teammates can capitalize on the grade A chances he’s feeding them. That shooting percentage should increase too. All in all he’s pacing at over 40 pts for his first 72 games. Hasn’t even played a full season’s worth of games yet. The few people overreacting on recency bias will be eating major crow very soon

I agree, but it's really, really hard when the likes of Paul and Brown are his support. They are great board players but my God are they literally north and south.

I don't think that is a major issue here. He didn't look like he helped Tkachuk last game, and I know it was one game. But I do know this: the kid is showing a lot of leadership, like wearing a letter type leadership with his play. He is lowly, slowly, asserting his place on this team. He just can't buy a break, nor does he have a whole lot of time to make plays right now when they can focus on him because his linemates are not a threat.

He made some plays in a phone booth against LA, just mesmerizing stuff. But he is better served on PP2 on the right side to shoot, tha on the left on PP1

That's about the pace Draisaitl started his NHL career at.

I think it's time Stu goes to the minors to find his game.
Chabot, please try actually hitting the net.

Unfortunately at this point Stutzle is pretty much immune to a demotion since that call would make management look really bad.. With all of the bad going on I don't think management want to add to their plate.

Funny thing with young players though; either you publicly and embarrassingly demote them (Caulfield), or you keep them up hoping that they find their game at some point.. running the risk of ruining their development permanently.

Still think it would have been smarter to have had him spend an extra year in Germany playing center, and then potentially a year in Belleville.

Going to be hard for him to transition to the middle of the ice facing NHLers instead of at a lower level, especially since it's been what 3 years since he's even played the position.

I generally don't like putting 18YR olds in the NHL unless they are franchise players. Tends not to work out most times, and I think the struggles of the top 2019 and 2020 picks who jumped directly to the NHL at 18 provides some evidence of this.

Really good article on the positives of moving Stutzle to Center.

To put things in perspective, Stützle’s gone from being a peripheral piece to one of the Senators’ most dangerous attackers. His 10.67 individual scoring chances for rate (iSCF/60) is the highest on the team over its last eight games.
General manager Pierre Dorion blamed injuries to Shane Pinto and Colin White for negatively impacting his team’s start to the season earlier this week. It’s worth pointing out that their respective absences may have potentially created one of the most positive and important developments of the season.
I have said elsewhere I think he has 1C potential as he gets stronger and improves defensively.
Being able to stack
Stutzle
Norris
Pinto
as our top 3 Cs will set this team up very nicely.

This is not difficult. Get batherson with him. Like wtf is the point of stacking one line and leaving stutzle to just waste away chasing dumped in pucks.

It's because when they were together they showed great glimpses but were physically overpowered. Way too overpowered at times. It's not difficult to see why they are not together.

Batherson is not on the top line to overstack it.. but because Tkachuk provides excellent physical complementary play to give Batherson more space.

I can very much see Stutzle-Batherson as our duo of the future if/when they both become physically independent, or if we get an external LW from trade or free agency that will provide serious defensive and physical relief to that line.

I'd like to see Stu taking more and more draws for the next couple months, and perhaps swap him and Norris after the deadline as long as Stu progresses at faceoffs. And for the love of God get Paul out of the top 6. Even if it's just Formenton replacing him. Ideally I'd like Ennis there but I think he's gonna be dealt at the tdl.

Tkachuk - Stützle - Batherson

Formenton - Norris - Brown

Paul - Tierney - Ennis

Sanford - Gambrell - Watson

Batherson is so important to that top line, and that top line has been instrumental in any success we've had this year.

If you are worried about ruining Stutzle, I can see the merit, but I'm not too worried about that.

I liked the idea of formenton on his line we got to see a bit of it in the 3rd pd we will see if it lasts

Form- Stu - Brown

It's like killing 2 birds with 1 Formenton. You reward Formenton for his recent contributions, and slot Nick Paul on the 3rd line LW role where he is more aptly slotted to play the big dick role we have been missing quarter way into the season. I mean he was assigned roles he is not qualified to play in, so I expect Paul to find his big dick self in the upcoming weeks in bottom 6/PK capacity. Contract year and all, hope he clicks with Tierney and Ennis.

Formenton makes Line2 very fast, hope Connor Brown can clean up the costly (from inexperience) turnovers by his mates, teach them a thing or two on the bench, as he will be back checking a lot (at least initially).

Should be entertaining.

Perhaps, but Norris is crucial to that top line's defensive contribution.

A lot of people think we overstack the first line. We aren't. They just complement one another's play and we have no other option to distribute elsewhere or they lose value on other lines.

Tkachuk(physical and netfront presence)- Norris(2 way scoring C) - Batherson (Creative and offensive stalwart).

What we need is a James Van Riemsdyk or Nathan Horton or Mark Recchi or Sykora or Federov. AKA we need management to bring in help from ******ing outside to help the young guys, and patch holes elsewhere, the way other exiting rebuilding teams did.
