Love these small victories…. He looked good there, and all of a sudden Brown was all over the place.

If Jimmy can be a better C than W that would something else.

Not really an issue if we play Stu as a center though...

I'd love to see Stutzle with Tkachuk and Batherson, but it kind of leaves Norris on an island, even once everyone is healthy.

Tkachuk-Stu-Batherson
???-Norris-???
Paul-Pinto-Brown
Formenton-Tierney-Watson

Sanford and Ennis don't really get it done... White might work as a 3rd line RW, and push Brown up a line but that still leaves Norris with no skilled winger.

For now, I might try something like this:

Formenton-Stu-Bath
Tkachuk-Norris-Sanford
Paul-Tierney-Brown
Kelly-Gambrell-Watson/Ennis

We really need two more top 6 forwards with high offensive skills; preferably top line skills.

We have to go with what we have now but significant changes must be made to improve the roster for next season. Many should be gone by the TDL and the end of season.

#1 LW - Stutzle - #1 RW
Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Paul - Pinto - C.Brown
Formenton - BIG Tough Center - Watson/Enforcer

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - BIG Dman
JBD - Thomson

Trade Tierney, Sanford, Kelly, Gambrell, Ennis, Shaw, Sabourin, etc.
Trade J.Brown, Mete, Brannstrom, Holden, Del Zotto

Teenagers first game at C in NHL was overall a success and shows a glimpse of what he will be able to provide in pretty short order.

Pretty exciting to imagine him after 2 more off seasons of training and getting used to NHL + some higher end wingers flanking him.

He was fine as a C yesterday. We have no other better options and might as well see if he can develop into that role since he has history playing C. I wanna see more of that

How long before he's sent back to Europe for 'additional seasoning'?

Not happening.

The team is doing terrible but Stutzle is still generating a lot offensively. He's not there defensively but we have to keep in mind that he's playing tough minutes every night with guys like Paul and Brown. They're good players, but we can't hope that they produce given the tough minutes they're given against much better players than them. There's no way Stutzle should be matched against Hertl or Couture for example, but we have no depth and he's been put in a real tough situation by the organization. He's getting 50% Dzone/Ozone starts share while guys like Norris, Batherson and Tkachuk are getting over 65% Ozone starts.

If anything, he needs help. It won't come this year though... unfortunately. This team needs a healthy and dominant Pinto and at least another top 6 player to be competitive. Also need a Sanderson in full form and solid goaltending from Gus/Murray. Need a LOT of help.

I'm anxious to see how it all unfolds though with Timmy. He looked a lot more involved as the center and I liked what he showed. He needs to work on some things but I thought it was a nice first showing for him there.

They should switch the lines IMO if they're going to try Stutzle at center. I would try

Tkachuk - Norris - C.Brown
Paul - Stutzle - Batherson
Formenton - Tierney - Sanford
Kelly - Gambrell - Watson

Would give some more help to Stutzle to generate offense, Paul could be there to help on faceoffs and on the cycle. I also think Norris line could use C.Brown. It would solidify the top 6 at least for now.

He needs other players that can feed him and vice versa. He is the only one with wheels in the top 6 and looked way more aggressive than anyone out there. He wants to make plays but he can't.

I appreciate that branch...and just as I figured. He's blessed with offensive power house players in Paul and Brown. ugh.

I count about five actual (or potential) top 6 players on this team.

Brady
Norris
Pinto
Batherson
Tim

And for whatever reason and whatever the circumstance, Stutzle rarely gets to play with anyone in that group. Its frustrating.

Stutzle is here to create offense and to support his linemates. I don't think we need a 3OA passenger that has to play on top lines to look even remotely decent...

Norris has 8 goals, 4 assists so far in the year, compared to Stützle's one PP goal. I don't think I'd want to move Stutzle back to the wing just to play with Norris, ruining his own development.

He only has himself to blame for the poor play...

Not exactly a fair comparison - Tim is shooting at 3.1%, and is getting absolutely 0 puck luck (see: crossbar this game). Kinda feels like we're lumping a lot of expectations on a 19 year old.

I think the point is that unlike Stutzle, Norris consistently gets to play with the other top 6 forwards, this season Norris has always had at least one of (and usually two of) Batherson, Tkachuk, or Stutzle as linemates. He’s had Sanford during the recent Batherson absence. Stutzle has mostly played with Paul and Brown.

Norris definitely deserves prime opportunities but at the same time maybe the Sens should be spreading the wealth a little to support Stutzle. Ideally when Batherson returns and try some combination of Stutzle-Batherson.

I’d like to see:

Tkachuk-Norris-Sanford
Paul-Stutzle-Batherson
Ennis-Tierney-Brown
Formenton-Gambrell/Shaw-Watson

The first line has been ok in Batherson’s absence, let them keep rolling. Second line gives Stutzle a chance with our best offensive winger and a guy with size and defensive awareness on the other wing. Third line taps into the existing Tierney-Brown chemistry (for what it’s worth), should be decent defensively and Ennis adds an offensive element. Fourth line keeps it simple, Formenton needs to simplify his game, playing on this line he can focus on going North-south. I’d like to see Formenton with Stutzle and Batherson but I’d be too concerned about their own end.

I really like how physical Stu is. He was hitting everyone today.

He looks good, and Brown has looked pretty good, but man, Paul is in some kind of funk.

I think I’d like to see Batherson with Stu and Brown. Bath can go back to the top line when we grab Giroux to play with Stu and Brown or Paul.

I wonder if White could play wing with those two next season? Maybe Pinto with Brown and Paul?

Stutzle looked like he was trying to set an NHL record for the longest shift for a Center today!!! Cmon man change with your line mates you left you self exposed a few times because off shift length. That is on DJ don't allow him to just go point hunting - as looks like all he is interested in!!

I think ultimately Timmy will be fine but man his timing looks off. Holding onto the puck too long, getting knocked down too easily, embellishing a bit. I don't know what the Sens did to breach the CBA agreement or why they felt they needed him to come over last year and play in front of no fans, but it's looking like a mistake right now.

I thought he had another strong game, all things considered. It will be good to see him centre a guy like Batherson.

Agreed. He looks more comfortable at centre than on wing. More space to work with, more opportunity to use his vision. Also mitigates a glaring weakness in his game (forechecking / half-wall board battles).

He’s not putting up points yet, but then again nobody on the team is. He’s definitely tilting the ice though, based on his shot and scoring chance splits. Hopefully with Batherson the points will start coming. If there’s one thing that this road trip has made obvious, it’s that Batherson is really the straw stirring the drink on offence for this team.

It was either Germany or Ottawa for him, and the team wanted to get a start on controlling his development.

He’s looking pretty good at centre right now, and I’m glad we ended up here at this point to get him started there. I didn’t think he’d be doing as well this soon there.

Not to say that there isn’t work to be done, but he is definitely a help rushing the puck out of the D zone already.

From what I have seen of Stutzle at center he has been slumping in terms of his individual "pop" but his line plays much better.

I only saw parts of the third for todays game but the first play I saw was Drysdale attacking the net with speed and space but Sutzle managing to keep pace and make an incredible play to give him nothing. The defensive potential is there.

The previous game it was refreshing to see Stuzle start the break out. He is like a slingshot, reminds me of karlsson where a change of possession in our own zone could quickly turn into a scoring opportunity at the other end. He is already the best puck carrier on our team and can be one of the best in the NHL. Why limit his ability to carry the puck?

Tactically he is much better suited to be his lines center. It is the natural position for his talents.

He looks both more comfortable and more impactful at centre which is good to see. The ducks scored four last night and Jimmy wasnt on ice for any of them despite trailing only C. Brown and Chabot in TOI. Also he and Brown had the most SOG and created or contributed to some high danger chances.

In my book he wasnt quite the solution but he could not have been farther from being the problem. Very promising, I did not think he would actually leap forward when shifting to centre.

Let's take a teenager in the NHL and blame him for having anchors for linemates which makes life so much easier for the other team to focus on the only threat when they're out there.
