I thought Paul had some good moments but it's pretty clear he isn't suited to be a top 6 center. Maybe in a shut down role where he really only worries about the DZ he could do ok, but his best offensive attributes are on the forcheck and being center takes away from his opportunity to really get on the opposing D to force turnovers.

Even in a shutdown role, I'm not convinced it would work very well. I don't think he has the ability to distribute the puck the way a C needs, thought his lines were always slow and disjointed in transition with him in the middle. Plus as you said he's best when he is able to be hard on the forecheck and cause havoc for the opposition D. Hopefully Stutzle's ability with the puck will shine if he plays C. The team desperately needs someone who can make plays in transition right now. If Stutzle can help keep the puck moving forward, it will take a lot of pressure him with the added defensive responsiblity.

Don't think it's going to work out with him as a Center just yet, but woouldn't mind him seeing other parts of the ice as I feel like it hasn't been working for him on the left side.

Stutzles time to shine. If he can prove he belongs at center the senators biggest need is filled.

Looking forward to this. Having a more definitive view of whether Stu can play C effectively or not probably helps us figure out our needs going forward.

Season is basically a lost cause so as long as he’s not struggling terribly or super uncomfortable there I’d just ride it out all year and see where it goes.

I think he will be better in the middle. Less time on board battles, more open ice, staying in the play with low support rather than blowing the zone early.. my amateur take anyway. Hopefully we will see.

He’s made for the Center position. Great breakout player great vision great wheels great hands… Has everything you want. He’s not made for board battles and picking up pucks from the corners imo. If we eventually have him there permanently all our depth issues are solved in the long run. Stutzle-Norris-Pinto down the middle is excellent

He is built for the C position, but not sure if it's this soon. His problem is his physical immaturity. I saw exact same issue all too well with Drai and Mackinnon as they tried to play their power game while still quite underdeveloped physically and it affected confidence as well.

Stutzle will still be a superstar, and I am glad they are at least giving him a taste on the C now. Will be absolutely monstrous if he transitions over quickly. I'd say he'd be most effective/showing results in a year and few months from now as he builds more confidence and strength physically.

Would be absolutely huge though if he demonstrates ability now. We could then confidently take Nemec or Miro if Stutz is C and not need the pressure to pick C at this years draft if it isnt BPA on our draft list.

Love Paul and Brown as the options for wing. Gritty hardworking board players to do the dirty work and i am fully hoping Stutzle tries to play his game and even be a little risky so that he tries to find his creative groove down the middle.

Never understood why he wasn't tried at C earlier. Forget familiarity, with the issues we've had this year trying him at C over Paul after a few games seemed like a no brainer. Better late then never

What the line should be:

Tkachuk-Norris-Sanford
Formenton-Stutzle-Batherson
Ennis-Tierney-Brown
Paul-Gambrell-Watson

I'll admit, I am impressed with Sanford's production so far, but I would swap him and Brown. Just want to try and spark the offense Brown showed last year.

My guess is they wanted him to learn to be more defensively responsible before throwing him into the fire of playing centre against absolute star players.

He's shown pretty solid improvement defensively, and the numbers show it, which is a bonus.

I really hope that if Stutzle does play centre in games, that DJ puts him with Paul and Brown. Jimmy will need to be able to take some risks to generate offense, and know he's got the backup if his risk fails. Kind of like like what Alfredsson did for Spezza.

I hope Paul steps in and knocks some heads the minute someone tries to rough up Stuetzle. Let Jimmy have some space and create havoc with his lazer beam shot

I think he is ready. He is possibly the best defensive forward this year, and that is sort of a compliment. More of an indictment on the others.

Good for him to get away from Norris who is killing his linemates this year.

Something seems really off with Norris not sure if it’s an injury or what. Anyone know if he still lives with Brady or is he on his own now?

I don't think he's good enough in the defensive zone to be a center at this stage. Also too weak on the puck.

However, we don't have a better option. I just hope throwing Timmy around the lineup isn't going to hurt his development.

Yes and no, it’s not that, his body language and everything else, too much loosing or DJ screaming about puck battles?
He just seems checked out
I never found him very good on puck battles.

doubt it’s a moral thing.

I mean idk about body language but on the ice he just looks overwhelmed. He is the only competent centre in the line-up and gets all the attention from other teams top players.
