This. Even last night missing two of your top 3 or 4 forwards, and ROR clearly laboring, they have talent up front.

Even with garbage offensive flow, structure and lineups, they still hit multiple bars, a breakaway and samson just missed on a trickle.

The people going off on this tank crap are ridiculous. This is what a borderline playoff team looks like when devastated by injuries.

and coached as poorly as any team in the league

Agreed. I'm fully on board with Murray, the direction he's taken the team, the aggressive moves he's made (good and bad)... but if he doesn't recognize Bylsma was a mistake... I will begin to lose confidence.

I'm not a Bylsma defender - he looks clueless sometimes, but the injuries have been an onslaught on effective coaching. Now he needs to come up with something workable. Some of the issues are personnel, but you also need to work through balanced lines, chemistry, game planning, etc.

I call BS on that.

Bylsma's system has been garbage since day 1. It's exactly why my thoughts on the coaching search were, "please god, anyone but Bylsma".

"We're missing some big pieces, but there's no excuses."

Bylsma needs to show what he's worth or he's going to be on the hot seat.

Hopefully the coach move happens sooner rather than later

I think back to the interview a few days ago where he said the team was a million miles ahead of last year as far as system goes.

Really? Because I saw a lot of confusion last night. I remember one instance in the 3rd on the pp where we overloaded the right side when oreilly had complete puck control, but had no where to pass it, because everyone was right next to him.

Eh, I wouldn't look too much into that. Eichel is supposed to run that unit.

The only issue I have with Murray is the hiring of Bylsma. I expect him to correct that mistake some time within the next 81 games.

Bylsma absolutely will not be fired in a year where Eichel misses months. It's flat out not going to happen.

I don't think it's worth mentioning any more. Posters didn't want to hear it last year. Maybe they will figure it out on their own.

Honestly if i had the choice between the sabres having had won the lottery in the two tank years or get babcock, i might go babcock.

Ekblad and mcdavid are both great and would upgrade what we got, but the difference is not as great in its overall effect as having bylsma rin this clown show into the ground.

Thankfully, I believe Murray's hockey eyes can see systematic issues with how this team is designed to play.

It's not going to be about our record, something the loss of Eichel surely impacts. It's going to be about how this team is being coached to play, and recognizing that there is no long term hope within such a system

That's what some people have been saying ever since the hire tbh.

Eichel being out has nothing to do with how ineffectual bylsma is as a coach.

Procedure over production.

I don't care if they lost a bunch of games with eichel out, if they looked like they knew what they were doing and players were put in there best position to succeed.

But that is not what happened last year. And in this miniscule sample of this year.

Hopefully Murray sees this and can convince pegula to end the farce.

It's not BS and it's not an excuse. I'm saying you have to give him a game or two to see if they can put something together. Just in the last 3 days they lost Kane and Eichel. That messes with the lines.

Honestly, I was not a fan of what I saw in the preseason and their problems scoring to me is largely due to coaching.

It is an excuse. Bylsma coasted on player talent in Pittsburgh and saying "oh but Eichel got injured" is the same thing. Even with Eichel out there is 0 reason we should look as bad as last year. 0. First 10-15 games with Okposo and Kulikov should be crucial to management's evaluation of Bylsma.

Well that is foolish. McDavid is worth MUCH more than Babcock.

I hated the signing. And tried to give him 82 games last year. He gets no rope.

What I see in this thread are Bylsma haters looking to get rid of him, or his hiring as a reason to not extend Murray. Murray got his extension and Bylsma is here for the short term because management is looking for a fair assessment, which you can't do during a rash of injuries. He started the season, which means they want to see what he's capable of.

Personally, I'm in the camp of 'not impressed', but I'm interested to see what he's capable of in this situation.

Its not just mcdavid, its the difference between eich and mcdavid.

And i have made my concerns about eichs game.

But the gap between babcock and bylsma is enormous.

That toronto team last year was garbage and he got the best out of them. Not many nhl coaches can do that in the best of circumstances, let alone in Toronto.

As i said it would be a tough call.

I wasn't a fan of the signing either. And things look bleak, but I lean more towards the possibility there is something there to work with.

Last night was classic 15-16. I'm not sure eichel was even scoring last night.

A lot of shots from the outside. Bad passing. Bad transition. Very bad zone exiting. It's now game 83 of this.

No, but I wasn't under any illusions as to the capabilities of that team. In a perfect world, maybe they would have snuck into the playoffs.

It's simple, you've seen enough, I haven't.

Eichel being out may be the best thing for the Sabres as a franchise. I've said this a few times already, but we get to see how much progress the Sabres have made in this rebuild. If they stink without Eichel it falls on Murray.

Correct, I had seen enough when he was coaching the Pens.

How do we get to see the progress of the rebuild when one of the pillars of that rebound is out for 2 months?
