I met them at my college back in the day. Solid show from my limited recollection. Apparently they were estranged for many years.

apparently named after this album (which most people don't recognize as a velvets album as it had no original members ...much like the clash's "cut the crap".....sure, there was still strummer and simonon but c'mon)

the first song might as well be a grateful dead song

the second sounds like a mccartney tune

the third could be a beach boys tune

...i'll stop...you can check it out yourself

Don’t get me started on Cut the Crap.

That’s not the Clash. That’s more like Joe Strummer and Friends.

I don’t even think Paul Simonon played on that album.

And there wasn’t even a drummer, it was a machine.

Maybe if I just pretended it was called Joe and Friends, I might have been a little more open minded. But probably not, it’s not my thing.

I didn’t much care for the last few albums but of the real band, but they always had at least a few songs on each record I liked.

Getting this thing ready to make some pizzas!

What kinda wood did you use? I went charcoal and it never really got hot enough... also any tips on sliding the pizza in and out?

I tried a new pizza dough recipe. It tastes ok, but it got super puffy. Very chewy crust, basically no crunch. It looks nice, but I don't think I'll be using this one again, for me anyway.

The toppings look really good, but yeah it’s a bit puffy for sure.

I’d still eat it.

I used a mix of oak and apple wood. It burns several hundred degrees hotter than charcoal.

The launch off the peel into the oven is the part I'm working on. But what I have found works best for me so far:

A metal peel. The wood peels are much more difficult to launch from.

Semolina flour on the peel, not all purpose or 00. It has a larger grain that seems to help the pizza move better.

Jiggle the pizza on the peel before launching. Make sure it moves freely. If it doesn't, you're not going to get a good launch.

Have all toppings ready. Stretch the dough and place it on the semolina floured peel. Add the sauce and toppings quickly so you don't give the dough much time to stick.

This has helped me so far.

It tastes fine and looks good. But I definitely prefer the thinner crust with a bit of crispiness. This dough recipe basically goes into the back pocket in case someone prefers crust this way. It's just not me.

taking it out needs no tip .....the 'hard part' is getting it to slide off the peel/paddle and setting down nice.

have enough cornmeal/flour under the pie (you do not want it to stick at all or your f***ed)

dont shake too aggressively.....start the far end far enough away gently and pull out with short shakes.

you dont want to push too much forward once the dough has hit the surface...reverse out when you know the pizza will stay with a confident pulling motion

also the angle of the paddle is important...too low no....too high very bad

It was a bunch of nobodies that played on it behind Strummer. With all due respect to them, I’m not saying that they were necessarily bad players.

I always figured he could have brought in some high profile guy (Steve Jones?) or maybe got some guy from a known band in the scene, but not known on an international level (Pat Smear?) to defect over to the dark side and collaborate with him and join the Clash.

I know I’m getting really out there, but how funny would it have been if he had Penny Rimbaud on drums and some guys from Crass or Steve Ignorant sharing vocal duties? Crass broke up right around the time this new look overhauled Clash came about.

But seriously, Rimbaud wasn’t good enough for the Clash. I don’t think anybody in Crass was good enough to play for them. They mostly all sucked at their instruments.

Kinda seems like it might be an issue on your side for the pic visibility, but I'll attach it again.

I'll try to find the link to the recipe, but it has a high moisture content. It's not surprising it poofed. It just did so even more than I expected.

Chemistry in a band like on a team is ephemeral and cannot easily be replicated if it is synergistic. John and Paul; Roger and David; Mick and Keith; Robert and Jimmy; Elton and Bernie. Spilt them up and it isn’t the same as great as they might be individually and regardless of who else they may collaborate with. To me Mick and Joe fit that profile. Whoever might have replaced Mick in the group it would not have been the same and it would not really have been the Clash. What a tragedy that we lost Stummer so young.

The first one I made was really nice. I used this recipe for the first one:

But instead of 153 grams of all purpose flour I used 75 grams of AP and 75 grams of semolina. That dough was really nice to work with too. It had crispiness and chewiness. Really good.

Yeah, they probably would have played again. Probably Joe, Mick, Paul and either Topper or Terry Chimes on drums.

But I can’t imagine them playing as old men for some reason, even though I think they would have.

Mick Jones started looking old in the late 80’s and looked like a really old man about 20 years ago now.

Joe was looking way better than all of them, despite being at least 3 years older than everybody else in the band. It was kind of shocking that he died first. Even though he was the oldest, but he was only 50.

I’m not sure if Paul Simonon looks so bad. I can’t really recall what he looked like in his elder years, but I remember Mick Jones around the time Strummer died and he looked at least 60 then.

Because I like taking things apart and putting them back together, and I got a new phone, I decided to try to replace the charge port on my old Pixel 2xl. Ifixit has a great guide I'm going to use, but I've never done repairs on a phone like this before.

Anyone ever try phone repairs? Any tips?

Guide here, btw: Google Pixel 2 XL Charging Assembly Replacement

Who was it in this thread that told me to eat deli food in NYC? Ive fallen in love with deli sandwiches. They're amazing!
Probably a few of us but one would almost certainly have been me. Nothing like a rare roast beef sandwich on rye with thousand island dressing and some Cole slaw. Others like turkey or pastrami or ham and cheese. Keep it simple and you can't go wrong.

Took the opportunity yesterday of being off work while our kid is at daycare to take my wife on a "day date". We bar hopped all afternoon like we were in our 20s (though of course not drinking nearly as much because we can't anymore). Fun times.
