Ok , this is gettig way out of hand here.
Last night we had severe cold warnings in effect.
Recommemed to stay inside unless you absolutely had to go somewhere .
It was -63 F (-53 C ) with the windchill last night ….
I have to work outdoors most of the time for work.
I am a gas utility operator . I had a 3 calls where peoples gas meter stopped working = their furnace stops working….
I am not exaggerating when I say that any exposed skin starts to feel like it’s burnig after about 1 minute of nejg outside. The wind was so bad / cold that I could only work for about 2 minutes maximum before I had to go back to my truck to warm up.
I had my thermal leggings on , thermal bib pants , winter parka with thermal underwear top and bottom , toque , mittens (gloves are useless when that cold ) and a beleclava or however you spell it ( covers your face , only opemeig is for your eyes . I have boots that are good for -35 . If you wear thermal little booties then the boots , your feet are fine unless you have to stand sill and you are standing on ice.
I just got back from Hawaii and this is what I had to look forward to on my first day back at work lol.
And to make things extra awesome , my co-worker has been off “sick” ( started out with foot “injury “ , then a cold , then ?? ) for 3 months now. I am the only operator left where other guys took off for holidays . So essentially it’s just me to cover an area that covers 150 square miles and 7500 customers. If one of our stations freezes up , I’m essentially screwed where it would effect up to 1500 customers. They would be without heat if that happened . No pressure. So essentially I do rounds and monitor my gas pressures and inject methanol into the pipeline if it looks like the pressure is dropping due to freezing / hydrates.
