I just bought my tickets for the Flames / Devils in Calgary in a couple weeks ( November 5th)
Section 110 row 6 . Just beside the top of the tunnel that the Devils use . $240 a ticket . Which I thought was decent . Seats I really wanted were $580 each … ya no thanks . I was tempted but … that’s a pricey weekend after but all the tickets / parking / hotel room / food / beer .
I’m almost better off flying to Seattle/Vegas/Phoenix and watching a game there …

I put this in the Rangers thread, but it may apply here as anywhere from Newark towards the school could be an option.
My daughter just received the email saying she is the top candidate for a research job at Columbia University. It says she will hear from HR with the next steps in the process. Now she needs to secure an apartment in New York/New Jersey area for January. Any advice would be appreciated. The job is in Manhattan so from there on out, I guess. I am nervous and she is excited. Go figure. The job is at the Columbia Medical Center so is forty minutes from Newark?

I'm going to drive to West Virginia tonight, maybe somewhere into Ohio instead ...St Louis tomorrow and Kansas City Saturday. I got about 1400 miles to do :)

I'll be in regular Virginia tonight.

Edit: You will be able to compare and contrast StL and KC bbq. We expect a full detailed report on both ribs and pulled pork.

Which Columbia Medical Center location?

Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Honestly, if I were her, I'd look for apartments in northern Manhattan - Inwood, Harlem, etc.

It's going to take longer than 40 minutes from Newark for sure, especially using trains / buses, to get up there. Not sure if there's a ferry for that.

Honestly, too, I'd have her talk to HR about what they can do for housing (Assuming you haven't) before doing too much searching on your end. Usually the big university research systems around here have suggestions, if not outright assistance, in housing and accommodations for researchers. I never worked for Columbia but did for NYU, and NYU had help for researchers in that regard.

I told her to ask the group she will be working with for recommendations but didn't think to ask HR. I just texted my daughter to do just that and yes, i think Harlem is looking better. Don't know about the safety aspect but we will see. Thank you.

Well It's official - at the end of my shift last night - I submitted my letter of resignation to ADT. As of November 7th, I start my new role as an Account Manager for a commercial financial consultancy. Excited to see where this new path takes me, and even more excited to have my evenings free again to watch sports
😅

So the sun is getting lower on the horizon. I’ve seen kids in my neighborhood wearing their costumes and playing in their yards. I cannot wait for ringing doorbell after ringing doorbell with the two excitable golden retrievers by my side. I may get pawed to death. Wish me luck.

It’s more likely here that my dogs will break me. Fortunately my neighborhood has enough eyeballs that it’s unlikely anyone will destroy property here. The most common form of petty crime is theft of beer from people’s refrigerators in an open garage.

I put my huskies downstairs away from the front door and blocked off with a baby gate, and they still made a racket every time someone approached the house. Gets tiresome after the 15th time.

You were able to stop huskies with a baby gate? Was it wrapped in electrified barbed wire and reinforced with depleted uranium armor?

They're well-trained enough to stay where I tell them to inside the house, especially if I put up any kind of physical barrier there.

Just not well-trained enough not to bark, yelp, or howl at various neighborhood children dressed as Spiderman. (I swear we got like a dozen of those last night).
