This is where the US and its tipping culture gets tricky because if you ask 100 people it would be close to 50/50 in terms of tipping when you pick up your own food.

I do not tip when I pick up my own food, I only tip when it's a sit down restaurant.

Maybe one year we will get on the same page as the rest of the world and have these restaurants pay their own servers appropriately.
Yeah. It was silly yesterday at Barclays center boxing night when i went to buy beer and had to tip the dude for literally opening a can and pouring it into a plastic cup.

I mean ofc theres more to it than just that, cleaning and stocking up etc. I just didnt feel like as the customer that i should somehow know what's the bartender's compensation here, as it is obviously not linked to the service he provides me.

Yeah, guess so. Is Five Guys a premium chain compared to McDonalds and Wendys? I mean i got same kind of meal at wendys for half the price on the corner of like 56th and 8 av, and this Five Guys was on 55th between 6th and 5th av, in my book should be in the sameish neighbourhood pricewise.
Five guys is allegedly a step up from a McDonalds or Wendy’s. Is it really? I’m not sure. They all make hamburgers. McDonalds does freeze its beef to ship it to the stores. My recollection is Wendy’s doesn’t. I’m not sure about Five Guys. The one near me features the farm where the potatoes for the French fries come from. They do offer a wider array of toppings for thr burgers as well. At the one near me you can get grilled onions and mushrooms which I don’t think are normally at a McDonalds or Wendy’s. In any event. The only thing that matters is how it tastes to you. I think near me a cheeseburger and French fries at Five Guys is maybe two or three dollars more than Wendy’s or McDonalds but NYC prices are nutty so you’d have to go to the closest Wendy’s and McDonalds to compare.

After almost 23 years with the same company I got laid off today...

I have mixed emotions.

Part of me feels defeated and sad. Another part of me is over the moon with my new life that starts soon.

I'm probably going to sell my place and move out West soon or not move anywhere and just drift for a while.

Anyway in the next month I'll probably disappear for a good long while. So if you don't see me around there is nothing wrong and it's definitely not because I don't love you all.

shit, somehow i missed this post...

you've said you're close to retire, does this change things?

... disappear as needed,

and ya, you ain't big on bruce but carry the spirit in the night always. best on ya man

Doesn't really change much....I would have liked to fund my retirement for another couple of years and I will miss out on retiree benefits. But in the grand scheme of things it probably doesn't mean all that much.

End of the month I'm hunting for two weeks...that was planned for a while after that who knows :)

Ger ready for more birbs! I was going to stockpile all my pics and launch a website or sell prints in the next few months... But I had such a crazy day today I had to share.

This hawk swooped in over my head and grabbed another animal... I think it was a squirrel or chipmunk and headed to a nearby tree to eat. I got as close as 10-15 feet to snap some photos. It looked right through my soul.

They are sometimes majestic animals and your photos are great. Thanks for sharing them. Me being me I find it fascinating that birds are actually mutated dinosaurs.

Got my Nico Oreo Jersey in the mail last night, and the 40 year patch hopefully tomorrow. I got the cheaper version of the jersey, mild regrets but itll be fine. Once i get back to Europe the jersey will go to my wardrobe next to Kovy and Zajac jerseys and will see daylight maybe once a year (kovy jersey... should burn it, dont wanna support murdering russians). So wasnt really a sensible option to put +$300 in the Jersey.

Anyway, i also ordered a devils coffee mug. It was lf course broken in the parcel, the ear of the mug was shattered. Sigh. Seems like the work of two morons: Idiot #1 throwing a coffee cup with only one round of bubble wrap into a parcel with the jersey. Idiot(s) #2 delivering the package with really rough hands, the parcel itself was in a really bad shape. No fragile sign or anything on the package. Double sigh.

5 Guys isn't fast food like typical fast food. I think it's quite a bit better than fast food. It's certainly priced a lot higher than traditional fast food but it's way better.

I enjoy it ok but it’s still a burger and fries. Unless the meat is a higher USDA grade or something im not sure what makes it that much better.

Fresh cut fries, I'm assuming their meat is fresh as well, idk it's just different. Plus the variety of toppings and stuff. It's definitely one of the better chain burgers available and isn't in the same space as like Burger King, McDonalds, etc. Having that, I'm a burger fan so I may be a bit biased.

No I tend to agree it’s better. Some of it is definitely the build your own burger and with toppings you don’t normally get in fast food places .

My go to is rather slobbish but it's a once in a while type of treat so I'll go mayo, bbq sauce, and bacon. Then I'll have half a heart attack and go home have a TUMs and fall asleep in the recliner.

if im doing home burgers it's medium ground beef.... 6 oz. each....salt and pepper only... flattened to a 5-6" round between two ikea plates with sheets of of parchment.

freeze until frozen .... do bbq when ready to do bbq

the patties dont fall apart...... just shrink and thicken ....end up the same size to the diameter of a 'regular' bun, not dry.....drunk proof (not that i can't function drunk)

and i'll say again, 6 oz. is a perfect size.

i like a blue cheese, bacon and mushroom sometimes..... the doctor can f*** off

I go with sautéed mushrooms lettuce tomato pickes and steak sauce.

Mushroom in a burger eh? Never heard of such a topping in a burger.

I personally just put cheese, a slice of tomato and pickles when i do a burger at home. Call me traditional i guess

I like mushrooms on pizza and in pasta so I’ve extended it to burgers. They work well sautéed in some butter and garlic. Grilled onions also work well for me but they have to be really cooked down.
