Talking about voices, I've mentioned several times around these parts recently that I think So Hyang is the best I've heard when you combine technical ability and performance/ability to connect with an audience. But discussions about amazing voices should also include Dimash. Talk about range.

And now that we are on the next page, allow me to continue talking up So Hyang. She has such range and such a powerhouse voice. Songs like Arirang Alone, Bridge Over Troubled Water, I Have Nothing, Everyone (this song is virtually impossible and she absolutely nails it) showcase the range and take you on an emotional rollercoaster. But then she does things like this too, and it's just so damn nice to listen to.

My mother in law is coming up from Mexico at some point next month, depending on when she gets her visa appointment. She also speaks no English. Right now, I'm working on improving my Spanish skills. I've gotten able to pick up words here and there when my wife speaks it with my brother-in-law, who's been at our place for the last couple of months. When he leaves, I should start listening to something in Spanish, probably Mexican news.

I'm also learning to read it better by playing Pokemon Silver in Spanish (it's the Castilian/OG Spanish dialect, but I'll take what I can get) and reading NY1 Noticias. Slowly, I'm gaining confidence. Maybe soon I'll be able to speak it, just need some better grammar and verb knowledge.

It's hard to learn a language as an adult, but good for you for making a good effort at it. Immersion is key to fluency, so listening to the news and watching shows and movies in Spanish like you're doing is definitely the way to go.

I learned Spanish in high school and college, and while I'm not fluent, I know enough to get by and understand what they're telling me. I have trouble with some of the really fast dialects though.

When I went to Spain on vacation a few years ago and talked to my tour guides in Spanish, more than one told me I sounded like a Mexican. I guess American-accented Spanish sounds Mexican? Or maybe that is the closest country dialect to what I was taught in school? I don't know. Either way, I thought it was really funny, and took it as a compliment.

Where the devil is our drunk thread? Combine Super Bowl drinking with baby-related sleep deprivation and here I am.

I think I may have had the weirdest Super Bowl party food combination: paella, seven layer dip, focaccia bread, and cannoli dip. Can anyone do better?

Keto nachos, whole wheat and almond flour pigs in blankets, and deviled eggs.

Well, before even building a single rod, while waiting for the supplies to get here, I created my own logo. So I guess this is the technical start of the first build?

Nice!

You went with a smallie over a trout? Is that going to be a decal on the rod?

What exactly are keto nachos? Normally I'd be with you on the health consciousness, but the Super Bowl seems like a strange time to be going for health foods. My paella was made with brown rice and lots of vegetables but that was basically my only concession to health considerations.

Carbs make me happy...especially the ones in beer.

I didn't watch the super bowl. Was it good?

my son has to eat low carb and I find it’s healthier for me. The SB was solid but unspectacular. Reffing was strange. No calls on pass coverage all game then two calls on the Rams last drive to extend their window when they had second and goal from the 8 yard line.

grain free chips with homemade chili and queso

as noted before it’s a health condition diet for my youngest.

Homemade queso is the best. I have a few different recipes for it depending on whether I'm making enchiladas, chilaquiles, or chimichangas.

Singers have to have a presences and evoke emotion... otherwise a note is just a meaningless sound.

The idea is for it to be a decal, yes. I ordered some clear stickers with this on, but in a much smaller size. I'm very interested to see how much detail is captured when they shrink the image.

I should add, yeah, went with the smallie. Trout are kinda overdone imo. And bass are what hooked me on fishing. Specifically largemouth, but talk about overdone. Smallmouth are a bit underappreciated. And it turns out they look great in this application.

There used to be a bit of ski/snowboard talk on here but it seems to have died down in recent years so here's my effort at reviving it.

I pulled the trigger on an epic pass this year figuring that between early week Hunter, Mount Snow, Stowe, and a trip out west I'd more than make my money back.

Well, hunter has been such trash that I can't justify wasting a day. I had a trip booked to Mt Snow this week and bailed at the last moment to head to Stowe (terrible conditions in souther VT) instead even though I usually stay at Smuggs.

For those who are unfamiliar with the area Smuggs and Stowe essentially connect at the top, hence me buying the epic pass so I could kind of make my own super mountain.

I can't recommend this trip highly enough if you have the time, coin, and ability to do so. It's as close to the West as you're going to get so long as it's not a sheet of ice, which it currently is not.

Mexican Spanish is different than Spanish Spanish. They're more lispy over in Europe and they use different words. For example, a certain dirty word in Spain is "joder," but in Mexico it's "coger."

"Chinga(da)" is also kind of a catch-all swear word in Mexico. Very versatile.

Yep, familiar with all of those. I don't think it was a vocabulary or grammatical thing that made them say that, because they knew I was American. I just thought it was funny that my American-accented Spanish sounded Mexican to Spaniards.

My wife thinks the lisped Cs, Ss, and Zs in Spain sound ridiculous, but I told her that's just how they say it.
