How come nobody told me there was a movie about the history of CBGBs starring the late great Alan Rickman? Looking in your direction @njdevils1982
I've never seen it

I'd probably be open to watching it

One movie I somehow haven't seen and have no interest in is SLC Punk.

None of my friends have seen it either.

The CBGB movie is such a slice of 1970s NYC. The cast is great the performances are a bit over the top but my guess is they are more true to life than I remember.

it's a doo-wop song really....and plenty of ramones songs are that....add in the phil spector thing and ya.

also they never shied from love songs or slower stuff...would love to hear a joey version of it.

...alas

I never thought of them that way. But yeah I hear it. It’s in Sheena Is a Punk Rocker or Roackaway Beach but even so that’s a far cry from a Bruce song.

May be you will like some modern near punk stuff

I dont really understand nuances of genre, its sounds poppy and recorded very well, may be you like more rough but straight stuff.

From the old stuff Im revisiting Caravan and they made great songs.

From the new stuff I believe some Pink Floyd fans could really like this record

Hearing the news of Carl Weathers passing hurt me in my soul.

RIP Chubbs.
I only found out 20 minutes ago.

He's always been Apollo Creed to me, but Happy Gilmore/Chubbs was probably his most memorable role where he wasn't playing a tough guy of some sort.

I haven't really seen him recently, but he struck me as someone that would definitely live to be in their 80s. I'm surprised Burt Young lived to be 83 (he just died a few months ago), as he looked a bit old and beat up back in the 80s and sounded like he was literally dying in his one appearance on The Sopranos as Bobby Baccalieri Sr back in the early 2000s.

A lot of people don't know this, but he had a very short career in the NFL as a linebacker with the Raiders. He also played for the BC Lions of the CFL after that.

The first Rocky movie had a bunch of commentary on the DVD, which featured a lot of notes from him and others from the movie. I haven't watched the extras in so long that I can't remember how it went, but he admitted that he lied to Stallone and others in production about having boxing experience, so that he would get the part. He said if not for his lies they probably wouldn't have cast him, but he did what he needed to do to get the role.

I kept waiting for him to make an appearance as Apollo's ghost in one of the Creed movies, much like Mickey did in Rocky 5, but I guess they didn't wanna go that route. And Mickey's appearance in Rocky 5 was also supposed to be a flashback to before Rocky's first fight with Apollo and not a hallucination or visit from the afterlife.

I do remember him not allowing archived footage of himself to be shown in Rocky Balboa, because he had asked Stallone for an actual role in the movie (presumably as a ghost/hallucination) and he declined. So he then declined for his archived footage as Apollo to be shown in the movie. Whatever happened there must have been cleared up by the Creed movies, as his images and footage are everywhere in those. I don't know if he and Stallone were necessarily on bad terms over the years, but things got pretty bad during the filming of Rocky 4 and he threatened to quit because of how hard Dolph Lundgren was going on him in the fight scene.

I'm overly bummed out by this. 76 seems too young for someone like him. He looked great in the most recent pictures I could find of him.

I saw Dinosaur Jr about a hundred years ago.

They may have been on the same bill as Fugazi or maybe I'm just imagining that because I saw both (saw Fugazi quite a few times) around the same time?

I think I may have even saw Dinosaur Jr more than once.

Ever get to see Mudhoney or The Melvins?

Mudhoney? I don't believe so.

Melvins? I'm pretty sure I saw them about a hundred years ago haha.

And 100 years ago to me was like really 30 years ago. I think it was the early 90s. Probably before they signed to a major label, which was a pretty big deal at the time, just like it was with Green Day and Bad Religion.

Apollo is his most iconic role for sure.

I will cherish the memories of watching the Rocky movies with my Dad when I was growing up. We also used to watch Happy Gilmore a lot, mainly for Carl as Chubbs.

He could have been the next Arnold Palmer you know.

I am sick as a damn dog. Not Covid, but it's kicking my butt. The strange part is, and this is literally the case every single time I'm sick, I get even more of an appetite. I want odd things that I'd otherwise never eat like pizza hut pizza or Jimmy Deal breakfast biscuits, and a lot of it. Is this, like, really strange?

holy shit what a lineup!.....love all three

who want's to come party? and it's a saturday!

I'd go just for Modest Mouse.
