If that’s the hope, I understand it. But I would at least make some kind of adjustment between NCAA guys and those who have spent a year+ as a pro. Howard’s two colleges have done more to shape Isaac than his affiliated NHL team right now.
I say do the trade. Then DB can refuse to sign him and then have to trade him for pennies on the dollar, which is something he is good at

They’re gonna trade no one. In fact, I predict they trade a 4th round pick for a better option than Cal in goal. Seeler and Walker will both get extended while they send someone a 2025 3rd at the draft to take Fisto at 2.55 million.

At this point I have no hope nor faith that they will ever do the right thing. Go ahead Danny, prove me wrong.
Then they are going to have a hard time giving TK market value with the bloated contracts of Seeler and Walker. Neither is worth more than they are making now. Their salaries are the real value. Seeler at 3X what he is making and walker at 2x, both for at least 4 years taking them into their mid 30s

I don’t understand where this is coming from.

Most of the fans that pack the building on a nightly basis want immediate success. Especially the season ticketholders. Briere and Jones had to be careful even using the word “rebuild” and had to say things like “it’s gonna be better sooner than you expect” and put a ridiculous 3 year timeline on the rebuild tiptoing around trying to avoid alienating most of their fans ala the Sixers and “the Process”

If you go to a season ticketholder event and hear the diehards and authentics speaking, it’s like when George Bush gave that speech with a “mission accomplished” banner behind him… they couldn’t be happier with the “culture” and the winning. They don’t give a shit about Cutter leaving or next year’s draft… they want playoffs.

So what the hell would be the point in Danny and Jonesy repeatedly telling fans that we’re sellers, our goal is to build for the future, etc. if they’re ultimately going to buy?

Why would you throw cold water on your own season ticket-holder events, why would you have Torts telling the team “hey that win was great but we’re still selling”, why would you have Briere telling players “we’re looking to trade you, do what you need to do to prepare with your family” if your plan is ultimately to say “JUST KIDDING, WE’RE FULL STEAM AHEAD FOR THE PLAYOFFS!”?????

It really makes zero sense.

I think you just answered the question. They are feeling the pressure and may even have been persuaded that there is no need to rebuild. What started as "lets build the culture and then fill it with talent" has turned into nah no need talent its all about the "culture"

The Flyers always try to prep thefans through the broadcast team/media. A month ago, even Boosh n JJ were pushing the idea that the future comes first. Now? They were gushing over Seeler, Walker, and Laughton all game.

The tea leaves are definitely pointing towards making the current team the priority.

Honestly, I'm not that opposed to trading seeler then resigning him this offseason (pending a properly valued contract) for what he is, he does stick out in a bad way. Passes the eye test most nights, and seems like a vet that can shelter a more creative younger player on the third pairing.

that would make a lot of sense if there’s been even one crack in the armor. But there hasn’t been.

Carter Hart is removed from the team. That’s a perfect chance to go buy a backup goalie. Hell, even the most ardent “tear it all down” people couldn’t be that pissed if you traded a 5th or something for a backup goalie to save us all from having to watch Shallow Cal. But no. We’ve trotted Cal out repeatedly knowing that’s probably a loss.

Risto goes down for a month. Perfect time to come out and say its a long term injury and alters our trade deadline plans. But no, they actually reaffirmed publicly their long term horizon and that they were sellers after this.

Drysdale goes down. Another perfect chance to say “hey we wanted to sell, but we really can’t now, none of the kids at lehigh valley are ready”. Again though, we didn’t do that. All the mouthpieces of the front office are saying the plans remain the same.

This makes no sense for a team that actually plans to buy and whose diehard fans are ready to kill for the playoffs.

To me, this shows a focused, committed front office fully intending to practice what they have preached.

The returns have to make sense of course, but there’s nothing that Jonesy and Briere have done that signals “same old Flyers”. It’s just angry fans casting the sins of the father onto the son.

I pray you’re right. But, after over a decade of suffering this organization’s incompetence, it’s on them to convince me that they know what they’re doing.

They used up whatever goodwill I had left when they brought in Fletcher, AV, Hayes & Fisto. When I hear things like Briere was fully on board with giving Nic D his ridiculous 4 year deal, and the fact that both Lappy and Rocky are still employed it doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence.

I’m hoping Conroy is just a poor GM because I thought Tanev would have gotten a bigger return. If Walker can only get a late 2nd or 3rd round pick, I say keep him and see what happens in the playoffs

Value drops pretty quickly when it comes to 2nd rounders. If you can get one that’s trending in the 33-43 range, I take that for Walker. If not, I won’t have any heartburn over keeping him as long as it’s not us signing him to a crazy deal.

With this benchmark set, I guess it was always pretty optimistic that Walker would return a 1st.

The devils in on this is odd. Makes me think the Stars and Flyers never talked since it makes more sense for that to be the Flyer retaining.
It makes zero sense at all for the Flyers to waste a retention slot this far ahead of the deadline to pick up only a 4th round pick. We’re one of the few teams with a lot of cap space and owners that are willing to spend to acquire draft capital. There should be a bigger opportunity closer to the deadline, I’d hope. Maybe a few. Lot of cash strapped contenders out there.

Might even need to use those slots on Laughton/Walker to maximize return.

Grushnikov is a really good prospect, so that’s a good return for Tanev.
He is? Did you see his abysmal scoring in both the OHL and AHL? I think @Appleyard had some great research on prospects with said scoring profile and how often they work out at the NHL level (spoiler alert: doesn’t work out too often).
