He's the President of the Philadelphia Flyers. An organization that historically has cowered in a corner at the thought of rebuilding. An organization that many are skeptical about whether they actually mean it (they don't).

It's just not something that you say whether in a joking manner or not.
I don't disagree that you aren't getting that from other organizations or that he shouldn't have said it, but that's Jonesy. If you expected anything different from him you haven't been paying attention.

I haven't expected anything different. It continues to be an embarrassment that he's in the position that he is.

Look, I get what he's saying here is that the players in the room don't care about a rebuild. They have to perform so that they can bring home a check to their family and put tape out there but JFC.
There shouldn’t be any “but JFC”… he was talking about how competitive the team has been and was asked if he was surprised. He talked about how he wasn’t really surprised because of the character of the players and how he and Briere sat down with each of the players individually in the offseason to set the tone and make sure they knew essentially that we are not tanking.

If you want to completely ignore who said it and the context in which he said it, then it’s a big thing. If you’re a rational, sane human being it was Jonesy being Jonesy and providing an entertaining and humorous moment on the radio.

The team is one couts injury away from bottoming out, but hell yeah rebuild complete, mediocrity for 10 more years boys, God speed lol

For arguement sake, even if he was "joking" that isn't a joking matter, nor is it a good look for the flyers, who already have a very divided fan base due to their poor management in years prior, and a true lack of vision so far in this one, just doesn't seem like a smart thing to do, and this is from the president of hockey ops, making our franchise even more of a joke, and they wonder why they didn't have any serious interest from anyone for the gm and president of hockey ops positions, some may find all of this funny, but I really don't, I don't see the humor in being the laughing stock of the nhl

Rebuild, not tank. There's a difference. A major difference.

Coots is already worn down from the first half push.

Probably wouldn’t like what they’d have to add.

He’s probably going to get something similar to Tanev or he won’t be traded and this forum will go up in flames when he’s extended 5x5.5.

It’s just weird when they could arguably make a run at a better defenseman in Forsling, instead of rushing out to sign Walker now. Or Seeler.

It’s an alright FA class for defenseman, and this team clearly thinks they are ahead of schedule anyway.

A rational, sane human being would understand that since the Flyers have spent months talking about what a big deal it is for them to admit they were in a "rebuild" and that they were committed to "rebuilding the right way", it is actually a big deal for their PoHo to come out and admit that isn't actually the case.

I get the humor involved, but a joke is just another way of hiding the truth.

I don’t doubt they’d kick the tires with Forsling if he makes it there. But I don’t think he will.

The Flyer brass always think they’re ahead of schedule.

Haha, I don't think it's an embarrassment. I don't think anyone outside of this message board knows or cares what he has to say (nor would they if anyone else was in that position). He's just having a good time and collecting paychecks. Honestly I don't think anyone in his position is really doing anything more than being a figurehead and going to meetings to see what the GM etc. are up to.

There’s absolutely no difference if you’re a player like Coots. Both mean “not competitive”. I’m not trying to get into a semantics debate here though.

My point is I think it’s abundantly clear what Jonesy was saying and it’s not “we’re not rebuilding”. He was asked if the success surprised him and he said essentially no, talked about how hard the guys compete for each other and then gave that little humorous anecdote about speaking to the players in the summer. If anything it was more him patting himself and Briere on the back for “setting the tone” for the season and making sure the players played hard for all 82.

A rational, sane human being would understand that since the Flyers have spent months talking about what a big deal it is for them to admit they were in a "rebuild" and that they were committed to "rebuilding the right way", it is actually a big deal for their PoHo to come out and admit that isn't actually the case.

Before I respond, by “anyone in his position” do you mean a president of an NHL franchise or his specific job here?

It’s obvs it’s not a rebuild anyway, but just nice to hear that.

In what world does a rebuilding team trade no real assets of value, and look to extend every half decent piece.

It was simply optics. Good ‘ol Comcast.
Yep, 98% of the people here knew it was never a rebuild, but man, the authentic's are going to be irate after hearing that. There's 0 chance that Laughton is traded and maybe they trade one of Seeler or Walker, but they're not trading both.

Is JFC "just for Charlie"?
