He's not that far behind, faster, much better goal scorer.
Tippett got his deal two years younger, and much smaller (6% v 10%).
So if he's overpaid, Voracek was grossly overpaid.
For one thing, Voracek played with better centers, Giroux, Couts.

If Voracek drove the PP, how come he had 3 mediocre PP1 seasons? Did he fall off the cliff?

He's extremely far behind. Voracek was one of the best at his position. Top 5 routinely. Tippett is a 3rd liner on a team that isn't near worst in league like this one is. This is insanity.

I don't think you've had a single correct assessment of Ghost or Voracek in a decade. It's really incredible.

No he wasn't after he signed that contract. Orange nostalgia.
Had two very good but not elite seasons, otherwise a marginal 1st line scorer.
Basically a median 1st line forward, but not elite. Similar to TK at the same age.

ES scoring ranking:
2015-16: (107)
2016-17: (73)
2017-18: (32) G was (2), Couts (6)
2018-19: (73)
2019-20: (46)
2020-21: (31)
2021-22: (112)

TK (new deal will be about 8-8.5% of the cap at mid-point)
2021-22: (77)
2022-23: (90)
2023-24: (36)

Tippett

Tippett’s career high in goals by age 25 was a mere 5 more than Voracek’s in a league that averages 0.5 more goals/game. While providing literally nothing else.

He does this comparing Konecny’s hockey IQ to Tippett too. It’s a hoot.
That's why I used league rankings b/c scoring did go up the last few years.

Voracek's contract was higher in terms of % of cap than TK's new deal which starts at the same age. And much higher than Tippett.
Over the 6 years he played under his new contract, Voracek's average rank was 61st.

Given what Tippett is paid, if he's consistently in the top 100 among ES scoring, he's earned his money.

Does anyone here think Owen Tippett is going to score 800 points in his NHL career? Jakub Voracek scored more than 800 points in his career. 1,058 games. .76 career PPG. Not exactly HoF shit, but we're comparing Tippett to that guy?

Tippett's career PPG to date is .03 better than Kyle Calder's. Christ. "Not all that far behind."

And after he signed that contract?
He got paid off his peak season (17th in ES scoring).
Never approached that again. Season before he was 57th, season after 107th.
So average of three seasons before the new contract went into effect, 61st.
Average first six years of new contract, 61st.

Hmm. Maybe outliers are outliers?
Or the first rule of signing FAs, never buy high (off a peak season).

Tippett is getting paid a little more than half what Voracek got (in terms of % of cap).

Those are literally the only things Tipper brings to the table, so he better be good at those things.

His cap hit was "much" higher because Jake was much better. Hope that helps.

You know there is alot of scoring that happens outside of 5v5, in fact many players do better on the powerplay, 5v5 is not the end all be all

Jake wasn't that much better. Jake simply wasn't as good as people like to remember.
He was lucky enough to have Giroux, who is as good as people remember.
Jake had elite talent, but never could sustain elite production.
One top 20 season, 3 others where he was better than a median 1st line scorer.
And he treated defense as an afterthought.

Giroux scoring ES scoring ranking:
2010-11: (14)
2011-12: (18)
2012-13: (40)
2013-14: (17)
2014-15: (82)
2015-16: (61)
2016-17: (168)
2017-18: (2)
2018-19: (14)
2019-20: (97)
2020-21: (37)
2021-22: (74)
2022-23: (27)
2023-24: (76)

That groin injury that hobbled him for a couple seasons is the only thing that might keep him out of the HOF.

Yeah the 10th highest scoring forward / 4th highest scoring RW in franchise history simply wasn't that good.

Tippet climbing history with his 5/2/0s as we speak

There is a chance I hate both the internet and Kevin Kurz
(warning: context needed)

Keep fighting the good fight. Your efforts may seem futile at times as these troglodytes make us want to bash our heads against a wall, but rest assured there is a small but positive ripple effect you are creating. Keep making those waves, man. Rock the boat.
