Cutter Gauthier was assuredly of the most valuable ELCs on the market in recent years, coming off a top 5 selection and strong college seasons and a good WJC. He's a 6'2 pure shooter, with possible wing/center versatility, who is one of the faster players already in the league.

That's the sell.

NHL teams go gaga over that profile. Just ask the Flyers. Gauthier's list was 18-20 teams. The teams not on that list would've been interested too. What could you pick apart about his game? Doesn't matter. You only need 2 of those teams to think he's a 40 goal superstar. We don't have to re-write history and say, "Well, actually, he wasn't coveted." There's no reason to absolve the Flyers for royally f***ing up the trade. Rutger McGroarty got a better value return months later.
Thank you, this revisionist history take that Cutter wasn't worth a damn when they traded him stuff needs to stop. His value would have been seen as incredibly high across the league.

We would probably lose our minds if we tapped Briere's phone and knew all the offers. I'm confident in that -- I'd wager the Ducks alone presented packages we'd prefer. They coveted Drysdale and targeted him specifically for several lame superficial reasons (comparable draft status, handedness, plugging "OFD" hole, Bob Murray's sagaciousness, and current NHL timeline). They didn't get stuck with him; they paid top dollar for him.

I’ll say it again. Daniel Briere is a f***ing idiot. This shouldn’t get lost in all of this. He’s a complete and utter clown with no competencies to be in the position he is in. The amount of times you hear that Briere and Jones know what they are doing from deferential third party media outlets is sickening. I can’t wait for them to finally be unmasked.

They likely targeted a young NHL player. As incompetent NHL front offices generally are they at least don’t particularly trade young NHL players whose arrow are pointing upwards as that’s cheap(er) labor.

I doubt they viewed it as a risky proposition but probably a safe one with a player having NHL games played to that point.

A guy who says of himself that he has the "clutch gene" doesn't come across as the type of person who's willing to put in the necessary work.
He'll probably be traded again at some point when his coach and GM lose patience with him. He definitely seems like the played for 5 teams in 5 years kind of player.

I have a vague memory of calling out that quote as a red flag. Just expects things to happen magically for him after a lifetime of physically overwhelming low level goalies and defenses.

Wasn't there some noise that he went off on Torts for not having him out there on the last PP during the 3-0 loss to Boston?

Agreed on Risto. He used to suck now he’s just subpar.

No joke Brad Shaw deserves a ton of credit. Wish he would get through to Jamie.
Just my amateur opinion, but I don't think you can teach IQ, and that's what he needs. Shaw could be lucky to turn him into Coburn?? Maybe? Point is, Drysdale needs to be an offensive threat to be worthwhile and he seems like the opposite of that.

You can live with his spotty judgement in the dzone if he was putting up 45 points.

Besides an initial pass out of the zone and some horizontal passing, nothing is ever threatening!!

Buffalo getting painted into a corner and going to need to make a move for veteran top 6 help. Rumors are they are listening on their young d, Byrams name popping up mostly. Too bad we just resigned our only veteran forward worth anything. Would’ve been nice to try to play hard ball and add to TK in an attempt to get Power.

Nevermind, just woke up from a nap, I read this as defense, not offense

They're not trading Power. And Byram is basically Drysdale, a high pick who's a disappointment.

A name to think about is Cozens, they might want to move McLeod up to 2C, so a package might land him, Frost, Laughton and a 2nd?
