I was kitesurfing in a remote village in Panama recently - on the Pacific side. The waters were infested with stingrays. One buddy was stung and vomited from the pain. Was out of commission for a day and a half.

If I wasn't on a board, I'd be in a pool.

Ouch! Buggers that got Steve Irwin.

I had to get urinated on (by the gal, not some burly man) in Belize bc of my stupidity around coral.

Yeah Steve Irwin got darted in the chest, which is why it was fatal.

I was so paranoid the entire time, especially when I saw how much pain my friend was in. I'm not exaggerating when I say that particular spot was infested with them. When the tide was low, you could see hundreds and hundreds of stingray nests.

Yet the locals were in there everyday with their little kids.

Guess it's just us tourists!

Where did you go in Belize? Would you recommend?

Creepy. That shit is supposed to hurt like hell I wouldn't want to experience it. How did your buddy describe it?

Did San Pedro, and Caye Caulker. Beautiful reef, and water. Different for everyone but while we found some positives, we likely won't go back. Not a lot in the way of sandy beaches on either island. Food was okay, but kind of bland (geared to tourists, I figure). EXPENSIVE. We for sure like Caulker more, more of a relaxed vibe instead of the non stop golf carts zooming around as on Pedro (how you get around).

Costa Rica is our place down south. Love it there. You won't regret giving that country a try.

Um, you do understand that pp points and assists count, right?
Jake was a 1RW for many years, Tippett is not. It’s really that simple.
Uh, I never said they were equivalent, I said if Voracek was worth 10.7% of the Cap, Tippett is worth 6%.

Did you do any fishing when you were in Belize? There's some excellent fly (and spin) fishing down there. Bonefish, permit, and tarpon are the prizes, but plenty of other fish as well.

Did not sadly. Did hand feed a few tarpon. They get you to hold a bait fish over the water, and they jump out at you to grab it.

I could see having to reel one in being a battle.

The handfeeding is great when you get someone who has no clue what they're in for .

100+ lbs of pure muscle can certainly put a hurting on you.

Oh I forgot to mention. My wife booked a fly fishing trip for Norway next year. We're going to check it out for living purposes anyway.
Damn you, that sounds incredible. I'll need a full breakdown of the trip when you get back. I know very little about the fishing there, but have heard some good things. Sea trout/salmon I assume?

I know Salmon. I'm not sure about anything else. She's used to BC/Alaska fishing from growing up there, so I know she's all about being able to recreate that. Or at least she was until she started doing some cost of real estate and living checks in some tropical islands.
Stop sniping me.

Oh good. I'll know one person.

Fly fishing is definitely my thing . I've had many "passions" over the years but that's the one that hasn't waned.

I've never had (or caught) sturgeon before. How was it?

Are you settled on that? I thought we had an idea of where we wanted to go, but I saw @Chuck Downie doing the globetrotting thing and it got me off of my ass. A visit isn't enough. We've been trying to do multiple weeks in every serious contender. That takes real time.
Have you been there yet? We went this past April for the first time and the place blew my mind with how beautiful it was. We only had time to visit the main island, but that just gives us a good reason to go back again.
We're doing a week in Terceira and Pico in March as part of a larger Portugal trip. First visit for us. But they've been high on my list for a decade or so.

I could absolutely live in Germany, lived there for two years some time back, but it seems to be a bit more difficult than some other places to successfully relocate to.

We did three weeks in Japan last year and loved everything about it. It's a bit more of a reach as a retirement locale, but not impossible.

It’s up there with lingcod as some of the best fish you will ever eat. Smoked takes it to another level. There are crazy rules about catching them here. Huge population below the bonneville dam. The old ones are like 7 feet long.
