I have no idea how there is such negativity following that *business focused* press conference yesterday

They really didn’t talk about hockey that much - and when they did Jonesy said multiple times they aren’t doing anything crazy because of their cap restrictions and how the roster is set up

I get it - the franchise has sucked for a decade, but this wasn’t a Dave Scott press conference - these two at least show respect to the fans and have some legit juice/energy

Jonesy has clown juice, and Hilferty has dust in his veins. 🤡:wally:

If the Blues buyout Hayes it would keep him on the Flyers cap until June, 2028 and use up a retention slot for four more years. :aah:

Hilferty’s accessibility has gone a long way with people at Voorhess and at games. I’ve seen him stop and talk to fans non stop walking in and out of FTC before my games/practices.

The perception of the mgmt has changed, you may say it’s just PR, but it’s actually resonating with people.

Dave Scott was cooped up on the 90th floor with the elites - at least Hilftery tries to connect

What do you think the bolded means? How is it meaningfully different from Dave Scott?

What PR resonates with people shouldn’t change anyone’s opinion on hockey matters. Separate issues. No room for interpretation.

If you like the hockey direction, zero problem with that. We’re all entitled to form our own opinions. But if it’s because Dan Hilferty or Keith Jones has energy, you’re Eliot Shorr-Parks without getting paid for it. That’s not a good place to be.

This wasn't a hockey focused press conference - that's my problem with the negativity today. They talked about a variety of subjects, organizational structure, the future of the WFC, fan perception, review of feedback....

If anything they sounded excited to be a part of the process and tradition and wanted to keep it rolling.

Dan Hilfterty is a corporate lifer, his whole being is being a corporate puppet - of course he is gonna get fired up for new dialogue around team sponsors. Wouldn't you rather him be doing that than talking to Briere?

I can smell the sincerity from here

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Don't know what to tell you. I suggest getting to a practice on a random weekday 2x-3x this season and I bet you will run into one of Hilferty or Jones. See for yourself.

I would submit that it is more likely that excitement comes off as genuine if you’re in agreement with the direction of the org. The more negative you are toward the direction, the more likely it is to find it saccharine. Neither is necessarily right or wrong, but it does make arguing about it rather pointless because it’s just a proxy for the state of the Flyers as a whole.

I don't like the direction of the team - sure I think Danny has done well on some trades, but I don't like Torts, I didn't like the Cutter trade, and I wanted a complete tear down to the damn studs while Michkov was in Russia.

In this case, it’s relative. That’s still more positive than many of the posters on the last page. I wasn’t trying to put words in your mouth.

This is how it reads as someone who has sadly stopped caring. You could have made a list before the PC of who would have found it hollow or genuine with 100% accuracy in this thread. That feels instructive.

What precious little time I do have, would never be spent trying to have an exchange with one of those phony bozos. I used to stop by on occasion for a practice or development camp session just to kind of see things, but those days are long gone.
Edit to add that if I did find myself in that situation, I shortly find myself being escorted out of the place as well. They probably wouldn’t bother hearing what I would say after the first phrase or two.

For preference, he'd do neither. If he's staying out of hockey decisions, that's good, he has no background in it and his skillset lies elsewhere, but I'd prefer he not get fired up about adulterating the uniforms and turning the team into a walking billboard, either. If he really wanted to pass along a message to amp me up for the season, tell me they're paring back on ads and/or cutting ticket prices. Otherwise, he's not going to be doing much of anything that I give a damn about, so I don't need to hear from him at all.

Jones, on the other hand, if he wants me fired up, give me some indication that they understand just how long it's been since we've been relevant, and that they are doing more than providing lip service to the idea of changing the thought processes that have underpinned the string of mediocre results we've seen over the past decade-plus. Granted, that's more Brière's purview than Jones, but as POHO, he should at least be able to identify several points where we've fallen short, and steps we're taking at a macro level to avoid those same pitfalls. Tell me how we're fixing the power play. Tell me what the timeline is for clearing out the bad cap we're carrying. Prove that you understand that effort alone isn't sufficient, you need talent too. If he can do these things, and then Brière's actions this offseason bear that out, I will absolutely get fired up. Then again, if their actions belie their words, well, that tells me just as much.

They literally said it yesterday after saying it repeatedly the past year - mistakes were made and there’s a reason they are all here, because everyone else didn’t do a good enough job

And Dan’s job is literally to do all of that stuff

Also I could be wrong but I don’t the Flyers raised ticket prices again this year - COULD BE WRONG -

The Inquirer interviewed Briere at the combine. He wants Erik Johnson back.

And now that we know Erik — I mean, I knew him before because I played with him (in Colorado), know the type of person he is and the type of leader. So we’d like very much to bring him back.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that Danny is slyly orchestrating a shadow-tank.

I didn't think that was concerning at all - they basically reiterated they need to make their picks, develop players, shed salary, and then have a spine in place to go for it. It was honestly refreshing to hear them kind of ensure no big money will be spent.

They've said this for years and then done the opposite. It's how the team got to where it is and why they're somehow against the cap.

wanna know why there is so much negativity about anything about the team..it's because they try to be stage magicians...they keep your attention on whats going on in the left hand..while the right hand is doing all the wrong bullshit stuff
