We also had 38-40 year old Marleau for 6 million a year and playing as many minutes as Matthews

The only thing dumber than that would be signing a 41 year old lifetime loser and expecting him to lead the young players.

I suppose it was good that after two failed seasons Dubas finally acknowledged that he didn’t realize leadership was so important, but what exactly was Joke Thornton going do in Toronto other than share his wisdom of having year after year of playoff chokes in San Jose?

I changed my mind, I think this process is finished sooner then later. Maybe over the weekend, O-Dog was talking big news for talking about on Monday.

I mean, how long can it really take for the MLSE dump truck to reach St. Louis?

I heard that though but I am not sure that's what he was talking?
My theory is O-Dog has been asked to drive it. If he left after some wings and beer after the show he should be backing that sucker up to Dougies front lawn by breakfast.

Thornton's contract wasn't even comparable Marleau's though

such a brutal list of candidates. Botterill and Treliving might be ok but they're kind of stuck in a corner by wanting a guy with experience but not being willing to give the new guy any autonomy. Treliving probably already has the job and the leafs are just throwing other names out there.

Given the way the board/shanny want to oversee the whole operation it makes no sense why they wouldn't consider younger/less experienced candidates.

This sure is has morphed from oversight on major decisions (like any other org) to some kind of Orwellian fantasy of complete control.

Dube-anon sure is a powerful force in Leafland

According to Elliotte Friedman:

- Brad Treliving has now been interviewed by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

- Interviewees also include Marc Bergevin, Jason Botterill and Peter Chiarelli.

- There are more Toronto Maple Leafs GM candidates. Those are not the only ones.

- A few more other names who have not been figured out yet.

Stayin’ Alive Stayin’ Alive Stayin’ Alive - 32 Thoughts: The Podcast

We got hockey this weekend! Jeff and Elliotte recap the Game 4 between the Stars-Golden Knights (1:00), Florida is off to the Stanley Cup Final (16:30) and they wonder what the off-season will look like for the Hurricanes (12:00).

The guys also discuss the investigation by the NHLPA into Kyle Dubas and his agent situation (28:00), the latest on the former Toronto GM (34:00), NHLPA x NHL meetings (36:30), updates on coach/mgmt. vacancies around the league (37:40), Buffalo resigns their captain (39:10), Anthony Stewart lands himself another gig (40:30), and Jeff gets his rule change thanks to Champions League Hockey (41:30).
Re: the bolded he had recently speculated those guys might be amongst the interview pool. So it has actually been confirmed the 3 are lined up?

Yup, reached out to some of my operatives, can confirm that's the O-Dog there. Looks like he's rounding 'bout the Dutton area there down the 401. Must be picking up the cash State-side. This is unconfirmed, but we strongly believe that's Ed Rogers giving chase there.

Lou signed Marleau did he not?

I suspect it’s Marc Bergevin’s job to lose. He had the experience and the charm to deal with the MLSE supervisory chatacters. Shanahan and him would get along. He exudes self-confidence.

Can’t say I’m a fan of his work or tenure but I don’t think Leafs fans need to worry about him repeating his Habs tenure — the Habs were significantly better than the Leafs (esp in the playoffs) during Bergevin’s span as GM. This is a completely different context for Bergevin and the Leafs.

Just keeping everyone current, our boy O-Dog looks to have hit Sarnia, here he is cutting down to the border crossing. Looks like Eddie has abandoned the chase. Again, we haven't independently verified this yet, but it has been suggested that Shanahan reached out to Eddy One Time in the past hour regarding the 401 pursuit, and conveyed a message from the Board that was essentially, "We discussed this, and you promised you wouldn't do it.".

TSN NHL insider Chris Johnston was a guest today on TSN 1050 Toronto’s Leafs Lunch show.

Here are Chris Johnston’s comments regarding the Toronto Maple Leafs ongoing search for a new general manager:

- Brad Treliving is currently the main person of interest

- Treliving is naturally the favourite to become the Toronto Maple Leafs new GM

- the only confirmed and known Toronto Maple Leafs GM candidate is Brad Treliving

- there is secrecy around the Toronto Maple Leafs GM search process

- the Toronto Maple Leafs are picking from a narrow field because of their preference for experience

- the Toronto Maple Leafs might name a new GM in the coming days or within a week

- Marc Bergevin is an experienced NHL GM who has had success in a Canadian market

- Bergevin is a strong trader and has been aggressive at times

- the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for a new set of eyes and someone who could shake things up

- current assistant GM Brandon Pridham remains under contract and committed to working for the Toronto Maple Leafs

- Brandon Pridham's prominence with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization will continue to grow and his importance will most likely be recognized by the new incoming Toronto Maple Leafs GM

- Brandon Pridham is close to former Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas
Bergevin probably good fit. He got Habs to Finals without going thru long rebuild process. Never traded his future picks or prospects to do it either. Unlike Dubas regime

It boggles my mind that a week after he's been canned there are STILL people trying to defend Dubas.

Dubas is arrogant. With a "smartest guy in the room" attitude. He managed to rub fans the wrong way in the very short period of time he was here.

The whole "we can and we will" nonsense has proven to be nothing more than a bunch of hot air from a bullshit artist.

It doesn't matter who you replace Dubas with. You could replace him with a monkey and the results would still be the same. A potato could draft better.

At least the potato wouldn't keep drafting a whole bunch of little guys.
