I feel like I am still adjusting my mind.

Seriously, when I saw that Blackhawks logo, and I knew the Rangers were walking away with Hughes or Kakko, I think I fried my brain. Or at least what's left of it.

Must be when you took the avatar Picture?

I want to enjoy it. So bad. But you never know with this team.

Let me put some knowledge in your brain. As @Edge pointed out, the Bobfather did his recent prospect list and Kakko was the consensus #2. It’s common knowledge Clark is one of the sources he consults on these matters. You can deduce that Clark, therefore, has Kakko 2nd behind Hughes. There is no reason whatsoever for the ‘but, Rangers’ meme, unless you’re a big fan of self-induced stress.

Honestly I think NYR will look at defensemen with our other high picks, but yeah Zegras at 12 is a serious fall.

See now, I think they've come to know the centers very well and might have a keen interest in going that direction. And I was saying that before Uncle Larry went there.

I'm not going to lie, if Kreider is moved for a pick (we'll say 14 for the hell of it), I'm approaching Anaheim and Vancouver to see what the price to move up is. And yeah, I'm willing to go beyond an offer of a second rounder for those 4 slots for Zegras.

I get it. I haven’t felt this happy in a long ass time. And I’m 99.99% sure they will pick either Hughes or Kakko, depending on who the Devils draft. Also, Grots did say that he’s going to take the best player available. The only real reason why I’m even a little bit terrified is because Podkolzin is Russian, and you know our FO loves those Russians. That, along with the Rangers being known to frequently go off the board, should not make anyone think that Kakko/Hughes is 100% guaranteed. But yea, they were never in a position where there was a clear cut player to take, so that makes me feel better. 99.99% is good enough for me.

It's not happening. Not at the two spot. By all accounts, Kakko has narrowed the gap between he and Hughes. He's not sliding. The Rangers are widely suspected to be one of the teams that talks to McKenzie. That would mean they have him at two.

There's no mystery here.

The past five 1sts have been two Swedes, a Russian a Czech and an American. Plus, if Gorton intends to ‘speed up’ the rebuild, he doesn’t do it taking Podkolzin whose contract keeps him in Russia for at least two more years.

You know, the further we get into this rebuild, the more I’m seeing mental gymnastics as defense mechanism. And, yet, when you and I discuss it, everything seems so simple and laid out:

I’m a natural pessimist, and it’s better to be pleasantly surprised than let down. The latter has happened to me so many times, both as a Rangers fan and in life, that pessimism is the only way to go for me. You’ll have to forgive me.

It's the PTSD of being a Rangers fan. Sometimes this team has been so sickeningly close, but they're one move or one error off. I think that's what we're seeing here.

This is a franchise altering moment that can shape this team into the 2030s. Forget Jessiman or McIlrath or Michael Stewart or anyone else. This is the moment that would permanently injure people. So the fear is high.

But this is seriously a no-brainer. It's Kakko or its Hughes. I have ZERO doubt in mind.

I'm a Libra, so everything with me is weighing and balancing. I take the good, I take the bad (and then I have the Facts of Life...ugh).

But this is a thing that's really happening. This we can and will celebrate.

Valiquette does a feature on who the Rangers are potentially getting at 2nd, and features Hughes and Kakko. Where do people think he’s getting his information?

I have no anxiety or worries about the #2 pick whatsoever. It's a slam dunk to me. I'm sure it is for Gorton and Clarke too.

It's the other picks the Rangers have that will be the ones we might debate over the years as the players develop. Having #2 is great but it will be exciting to see what moves Gorton might make at the draft to possibly move up.

It's just nice to be in a position where the team is making picks in the first round, not to mention picking in the top 3. This franchise was hurt for years trading away draft picks. Gorton has gone full blown opposite direction. He gets it.

I think Bob said 9/10 scouts still had Hughes at 1 so maybe the Rangers have him at 1 and Hughes at 2 but either way the consensus looks good for us.
