Trade Kreider, get Cozens. LFG.

My wet-dream:

1(2): Kakko
1(8-12): Cozens/Zegras (via Kreider+one of extra 1sts/early 2nds+maybe a Vesey/Namestnikov/Pionk or whatever)

If both conditions hit, I'd prolly trade the remaining 1sts to move up and secure Seider.

sploosh.

Back to reality, I'd be very happy with Kakko+Seider. Kakko+any of the American centers would make me so happy.

If Zegras is somehow still around at 10 pay the price to move up into that pick.

That’s my feeling.

The key will be whether they are within striking range. You might be able to build an offer that starts with sliding down 4 picks, especially if another first is involved.

But we’re not going from 25 to 10, even with multiple firsts.

True, but something tells me that they're hell bent on getting a 2nd pick in the top 10.

Brooks did one of two things in his article:

1. He either talked to someone or connected the dots enough to come away with the same suspicion as me, that the Rangers are still interested in the centers they spent a lot of time scouting.

2. He just loves the idea and either lifted comments from here, or just happened to coincidently think about the same idea.

I have similar feelings as well. If one or both of these conditional picks work out, they should have enough ammo to get it done.

I suspected last summer that might be their approach for 2020. It was never directly stated, but it was hinted at by a few people who I know.

Due to circumstances, my suspicion has only grown.

If Step = 7 how does Kreider not get us 10-12 ??

Step had many years left on his deal. Kreider is a pending UFA. For a rebuilding team (who most teams picking that low are), trading a 1st for a pending UFA is not good business.

I feel the same way. I hope they don’t plan on moving down from 2 to make it happen though. I don’t even know how something like that might work but I want Kakko more than I want 2 of the 3-10 ranked guys.

The second pick is locked in. That isn't going anywhere.

They're not moving down from 2, of that I'm almost 100% positive.

They have enough capital to get it done you'd think, but you need a willing dance partner.

If it doesn't happen, it won't be for a lack of trying.

Gordie Clark better not try to be smarter than everyone and #$%& this all up.

Gorton needs to send Gordie to that place in New Hampshire that Walter White was at at the end of Breaking Bad before he came back to settle all debts in the finale of the show. Once the draft is over and we have Kakko in our back pocket, than Gordie can come back....lol

I kid but I'm being kind of serious as well. As much as I admire and respect Gordie for all he's done for us over the years, I don't want him anywhere near Gorton on draft day...

Watching clips of him, style wise Matthews is a very good comparable.

I thought so. Glad I'm not on an island here with my Matthews comparison. A few have brought up Peter Forsberg as well and when I look at some highlights of him, I can see some Forberg in him as well.

That wouldn't be too shabby a hockey player for us to have for the next 15 years or so...eh? A combo of Austin Matthews and Peter Forsberg. Someone really does need to snap me out of this daze I'm in since last night. I've been a fan forever...back to the early 70's and shit like this just doesn't happen for our snake bitten franchise we all love so much.

To finally have the ability to draft a transcendental player still hasn't fully computed yet in my head but I think I can get used to it...haha

There are 5 teams between 7 and 14 than I would characterize as wanting to improve immediately. Buffalo, Edmonton, Philadelphia, Florida, and Arizona.

We might be able to find something.

If we draft Kakko it's going to be a nonstop "Youngest player to do X for the Rangers" party next season. Not ever drafting so high means we've never really had a player come in at 18 years old and produce.

I want to say Don Murdoch was 18 when he made team out of training camp back in 1975 or '76. And I believe he was the youngest Ranger player ever. Heck if I recall correctly as it's been a long time ago and, I think Murodoch won the Rookie of the Year award and scored 5 goals in a game. He was the cats meow but he liked cocaine a bit more than hockey and his career took the wrong turn tho he was a major contributor to our glorious 1979 Cup run.

Anyways, Kakko would likely be the youngest or right there with Murdoch when he makes the team out of training camp.

Ugh don't mention Pettersson. That's the only thing that can bring me down right now... Imagine if we had him instead of Andersson.

But I Digress. Kravstov is going to be awesome. Guy had 21 in 50 on one of the WORST KHL Teams offensively. Add that in with Kakko... **** man this team gunna be good.

I still wonder now if you trade Kreider or if you keep him. I also wonder if this makes signing Panarin a good idea -- I am leaning towards Yes

I we had drafter Petterson we would probably not have won the #2 pick last night. Remember, everything changes everything.

On Kreider, I'm torn. I'd look to see if we could move him for a late top 10 pick.

It might have been the mid-term article from January. It's been floating around here, particularly with speculation that the Rangers are high on Zegras and may have him ranked 4th.

Yeah, Bob's updated article here: https://www.tsn.ca/hughes-kakko-in-tight-race-for-top-spot-1.1284470

Highlights:
Hughes and Kakko are clearly the top two prospects in this year’s draft — like Hughes at No. 1, Kakko got 10 out of 10 votes at No. 2

“The difference for us, right now, is razor thin,” said one NHL team head scout. “It’s almost a coin flip, pretty much a dead heat. Really close. Call it Hughes at 51 per cent, Kakko at 49 per cent. It’s that close and that could change.”

In 3 years Gorton will be a genius because we got the right ping pong ball to drop. I’m grateful for the luck FINALLY.

If Gorton is a genius in 3 years, it'll be because of the other, non-2nd overall, draft picks over the past several drafts that panned out for him. The league is littered with GMs who were gifted a top 3 overall pick and are squandering them because of the lack of drafting/smartly acquiring a strong supporting cast.

It was pretty obvious to me in a couple of Gortons interviews when he was questioned about the possibility of Hughes vs. Kakko that he was not only amped to select either of the two but it was pretty slam dunk. Reading between the lines of course.

The people who are worried about Gorts not shouting Kakko's name from the rooftops, and his intentions on picking him right now, have to remember that there are still a couple of months (and games for the draft eligible) till the draft. He has nothing to gain by doing so. What if (and these are all horrible so pardon me) Kakko where to blow out his knee or sustain a severe concussion? What happens if something happens off the ice like a DUI or sexual assault. Totally changes the optics.

If Zegras is somehow still around at 10 pay the price to move up into that pick.

Unless the team at 10-11 like him as much as we do. Then there is nothing the Rangers could do because the pick won't be for sale. Hopefully we could find a draft partner but damn is it really hard when you are talking the top 10 picks of the first round.

Yeah, I remember steps deal but Kreider is the better player and like @Vinny DeAngelo said, I meant more of a sign and trade/deal with Kreids and new team.

He’d look pretty damn good on a lot of teams in this league.

If Zegras is on the board at 9 what would it take to get that pick from Anaheim?

That’s the big question.

I guess it depends on what we have to offer and who they like.

Do they love Zegras? Do they love Zegras more than two guys they feel they can come away with?

Would really be nice if we could collect either the TB 1st or the Stars 1st for extra ammo. How far up does the 22nd (Jets) and the 31st (TB) get you? Would be awesome to come away with Kaapo and a top C prospect like Zegras or Turcotte.

Edmonton really needs to win now right? That might be a pick to target. Obviously we would need to move players. Not sure if Kreider would fill a need...or work financially going forward. Too bad Lucic has so many years left or I'd consider taking him off their hands to get a deal done.
