Damn… that article is quite eye opening.

Harris is echoing exactly what I’ve been trying to get across - it doesn’t matter if they eek out wins with ultra safe turtle mode offense - it’s not going to lead anywhere but seven years without a playoff win.
Interesting.

Johnson obviously would be upset about the poor passing offense because it effects him, but is his beef with the qb struggles and the coaches for sticking with kenny, or with the coaches who aren't calling a good offense/mandating the passing offense play so conservatively?

Not sure what Harris has to be upset about, Warren proved the running game can be successful the way they're currently coaching/playcalling, he's just not as explosive as Warren. So wonder what he's hesitating to say if it's not related to his own play.

The best case scenario while Tomlin as coach is a clear re-setting of expectations about his role in our offense and offensive coaching: he should have none. 0. It is total hubris for a defensive coach to want to meddle in stuff he has no ability to do. And he should have no say in an OC since he is definitely threatened by any good one.

I am guardedly optimistic that after these last 2 disastrous years, the organization will separate Mike Tomlin's roles from offensive tactics and let him call defenses, do some game management and be cheerleader/psychologist. Replacing Canada with a bonafide hotshot is step 1
Getting a viable quarterback is step 1a.

The fact that he's on a team that's going nowhere that's run by morons? And that clearly has dressing room issues?

I think people are being too glib in writing off Harris' production as "Warren can do it, why can't you". A quick look at Harris' game log shows he *can* do it here. Maybe not as well as Warren, but he's had not shortage of productive games here.

He's also had no shortage of being asked to run into stacked boxes on 2nd and long, and other such idiocies. It's not like Warren's stats don't suddenly retract when asked to do that either.

Why?

It is beyond obvious that Rooney's priorities are things other than football and winning championships. Winning championships matter less than how he is perceived.

That never a losing season thing matters more to Rooney than to Tomlin.

Tomlin meddling in the offense and having a deliberately crappy offense is not a recipe for breaking .500. A Watt injury/regression or a few Boswell missed kicks will make this clear.

At this point why even keep Watt and Highsmith? Even Minkah? Just trade them for picks. They aren't going to contribute to jack shit that is meaningful with these idiot coaches.

Hey lads you're all amazing, here's a 9-8 season and Jack shit to show for it like always.

Basically Tomlin is wasting another HOF career.

Charlie Batch was laying into Canada pretty heavily on the post game last night.

So I’m sure DJ is mad at him and obviously KP, but ultimately DJ is a symptom of what’s wrong with this offense.

Tomlin thinks it’s a good idea to have the bulk of your throws go to a leading receiver with the lowest YPC in the last 50 yrs for this franchise.

He’s also a complete spaz and unreliable as hell. He’s not a Ward or AB that you could rely on to make big plays at pivotal moments.

And this has been going on long before Canada and KP came around.

So we have Chuks angry about the playcalling, Pickens and DJ having a hissy fit, and now Harris going off.

- KP has 100% regressed and is so afraid to throw the ball that I’ve never seen anything like it before.

- The play calling and design is absolute garbage, but I’m not even mad at Canada anymore, he should have never been brought back.

- Moore is an albatross at LT, but sure play your LT unit at RT. Logic fully checks out.

- Cole isn’t much better

- Harris can be pissed, but Warren is avg like 10 YPC the last three games and he gets nine carries?

Warren should be the one mouthing off.

This mess isn’t getting fixed any time soon.

We have seen this same story for three years now and the fact no one wants to face is - the last two OCs have been absolute dog shit, so anyone who fantasizes that Tomlin is competent enough to hire a good OC is delusional.

I don’t know how you can lay into canada yet again wide open players all night. Moore can’t ply RT and chuks can’t run block

I’m gonna go out on a pretty big limb here and assume Batch knows more about football than you, particularly the offensive side of the ball.

Tomlin kept Chuks and Moore around, never focused on O-line in the draft until this year - he owns this problem as well.

I mean, I do realize that Tomlin is to blame for everything and while he may have some say in personnel, Colbert is who didn't draft OL.

I continue to believe playing Jones at RT instead of LT just to keep Dan Moore in the lineup is coaching malpractice at the highest level, however.

Bitch moan rinse repeat. Bitch moan rinse repeat.

It is entirely possible that all of MT/Canada/KP do indeed suck at their jobs at the same time. There is ample evidence to support.
I think it's quite likely but I don't think you're allowed to think that under message board rules. You have to choose a side.

Ignore reality, mix in a shit load of hyperbole. Put it all on autopilot for a bunch of nonsense and noise.

Could be, yet one of those variables has to be removed, but one is never happening, another absolutely should have happened but didn’t, and the last one will get at least one more season.

For the guy whose entire message board identity is tied to criticizing Mike Tomlin to levy this criticism is quite the toxic combination of a lack of self-awareness and deflection.

Robble robble, mix in exaggeration to get attention, can’t face reality, robble robble.

As bad as Pickett has been, I’m borderline out on Tomlin at this point too. I don’t even think he’s a bad coach, but if he has no interest in developing a passing game, then he’s gotta go.

With an even mediocre passing attack, this team is probably sitting at 8-2 and I’d argue that there’s a decent chance the Texans game turns out differently.

I think this is a more accurate reflection of the Steelers D than total yards are. It's hardly an elite D, especially without both ILB and 2/3rd of the S, but it's certainly an above-average D. That said, that last drive yesterday by Cleveland was trash coaching. Giving receivers that much cushion when there was less than zero chance they were going to throw downfield and risk a turnover was just ghastly stuff.

The thing you'll notice each week from a play calling + mindset standpoint on tape -- the Steelers' offense plays football like they are not talented enough to line up and win. They play to not lose.

This is Tomlin’s MO, going back to Rudolph’s second year.

He brought Canada back.

This is his philosophy.

He doesn’t even have enough common sense to take advantage of the one good thing going on offense right now, and Warren gets 9 carries.

When he’s asked why, he resorts to his arrogant BS, because he doesn’t have a suitable, logical answer.

Everybody likes to talk passing charts with this offense but if you look at MT's passing chart from when he replaced Kenny a few weeks ago there were a bunch of throws both downfield and over the middle.

Of course, MT's fatal flaw is that he doesn't know when not to throw the ball deep, but I think the narrative that the scheme somehow discourages deep throws or throws over the middle is total bunk.

It absolutely is a terrible scheme, but the lack of deep throws or throws over the middle is more a product of the franchise's terrible qb's since 2021 imo.

People laugh at the idea of Trubisky being an option at QB, and he certainly wasn't that inspiring when he played here last year, but that guy has a resume that would seem like a wet dream for Pickett to achieve. I don't really want him to the starter here, as he's at best middling or slightly below, but he got run out of Chicago for being far better than what Pickett has been here.
