Yeah that’s what happened. That doesn’t mean it was the plan. They planned on drafting Jones. People from the team even told them during his interview he was their target. Then everyone was publicly tearing them a new one because no one thought Jones was worthy of a top 3 pick let alone a team giving up what they did to move into that spot. They felt the heat and changed their minds because of it
I didn’t realize I was talking to John Lynch. Super cool, big fan.

I find it funny you’re saying I’m arguing in bad faith when you’ve provided nothing to support your statement about how Mitch Trubisky is a better QB than Lamar Jackson. You bring up Wentz like it’s some kind of trump card, but has nothing to do with what we’re discussing.
You wanted a stats argument, and I gave you one. Now you want to claim it’s irrelevant. Lol. Wentz is relevant because his numbers are similar to Lamar’s (excluding 2021). You just don’t want to confront that reality so you’re dodging.

I’ve given my reasoning for Trubisky. You can accept it or not.

No, it’s not a straw man. If you look at Wentz’s numbers you have to concede he should get MVP consideration if Lamar is a legit MVP QB. Deflection on your part tells us you’re not even close to arguing in good faith.

I love how people think mobile QBs are something new. It’s actually hilarious. They’ve always been around, and since the beginning it’s the QBs who can throw the ball that last. It has nothing to do with anyone being a “boomer” (I’m a millennial) - another attempt at deflection and evidence of bad faith.

If you think injuries accounted for Lamar having a 16 TD, 13 INT season then there’s really nothing to discuss. You’re not even trying to be honest
You claim others are arguing in bad faith for using stats and facts to bring down Trubisky yet you use stats to bring down Lamar. Interesting.

Let's ignore stats for a moment. One is a franchise QB and the other is a backup QB trying to prove himself as a starter.

My claim is Lamar's MVP is BS. Why did he get it? He had a Carson Wentz passing year. His legs? He's not a running back.

If Lamar is a franchise guy so is Wentz lol

All those 1st downs and touchdowns didn’t help his team win games, got it.

Lamar Jackson isn’t a very good QB. Definitely not as good as the entire NFL media make him out to be. But yes he’s better then a guy who legit can’t throw the ball to an entire side of the field

You’ve provided no stats, and I’ll continue to ask. Show me how Mitch Trubisky has outperformed Lamar Jackson in any way. Only discuss these two quarterbacks this time, please.

The problem is that’s a stupid argument as it tries to sidestep the point: situation has played a massive role in the performance of the QBs

So now you think a QB shouldn't be able to scramble. Which is funny because a QB must be mobile in the modern NFL.

What other fun hot takes do you have? Let me guess, Haskins > Mahomes because Haskins was much better in college.

You could make the argument that Haskins as much if not more possible upside than Trubisky. If a QB falls that they really like, you have to take that first.

People within the 49ers organization telling him during his interview that he was the guy they wanted doesn’t support that?

I bet they told a lot of guys they wanted them.

Whats more likely.

1. A well run NFL front office buckled to public pressure on the most important decision they might ever make.

OR

2. They were interested in Jones just not as much as Lance and he was their backup option if the Jets took Lance instead of Wilson.

Or 3 they knew Jones was the safest floor and if not when Jimmy G got hurt Mac could still win games. Shanahan does have a losing record without Jimmy and it’s why Jimmy might still be on the roster cause Lance isn’t ready.

No you can’t Haskins isn’t even considered an option to start if they draft someone he will be the guy they cut in September
