No, I'm acting like the OLB got carried through his lane and cut off his line of sight. The cutback never would have even happened if the DL did their job.

This "line of sight" thing diminishes your thesis completely.
If you believe that every player on an NFL (hell we can even include Pee Wee football) field sees everything going on around them, then I question whether you played LB or any other sport outside of baseball or tennis

This is why coaches say repeatedly "Read your keys". Because....<drum roll> you can't see the ball carrier at all times. But correctly reading your keys will TAKE YOU TO THE BALL

Blows my mind that people think players have the same vantage point we see on TV....

Your denial of the facts because it hurts your thesis that "Bush is a bum" is the issue here, not my understanding of how defense works.

Umm we would know if the players were on his side. There wouldn't be guesswork. The fact it's not obvious tells us the truth.

We do know the players like him. Multiple teammates have spoken out in support of him

If you'd like to share clips of other LB's I'd be happy to break it down for you.

But your assertion of "defenders are off the hook bc they can't see the ball/offensive player is bunk"

Otherwise 5"11 James Harrison could never have succeeded against 6'6 Joe Thomas

Very few, it's almost never completely unanimous but it doesn't need to be. When a team by-and-large likes a QB and sees good leadership qualities in him, it comes out and is known. This has never happened for Mason. I've heard more positive about Trubisky in the few months he's been here than the entire time Mason has been here.

Mason is not the dude Steelers fans are trying to pump him up to be. He's not going to fetch better than a 6th round pick if anyone is willing to trade for him at all.

My god dude.

I literally said it's difficult to see the ball-carrier out of the backfield most of the time. That's why gap discipline is such a big deal for ILB. However, when a LB is doing his job and taking up his gap assignment but his teammate fails at their job and gets blasted through their lane, it's not their fault if they can't make the play. You trying to pin in it on Bush makes you look like a fool.

James Harrison was a blitzing specialist who played outside. You can find loads of plays where he made a move inside and the ball went outside. It happens.

I doubt it. Ben was a huge asshole. But he had 2 rings and 3 SB appearances and the statistics to back up his assholery.

Here we go- an example of good ILB play. I have no idea who #57 is on the Seahawks, but look at the 2nd clip under Section #2

He doesn't have a Dline pushed in his lap, but actually has 2 blockers coming right at him. Look at how hard he attacks when he recognizes run (reading keys, what a novelty). Dude is a yard into the backfield and probably makes the tackle if 1 of the Steelers doesn't hold his arm

This is why you cannot go laterally for too long as an ILB. You have to come down at an angle to reduce the gap between the level between yourself and the people in front of you.

Contrast this with what Bush puts on tape and it's night and day. #57 loves to hit and it shows. Bush likes to prance around the field

Gap discipline in this example is exactly my issue. You can still do your own job even if the dude next to you fails.

For the 3rd time, that running play was going to get positive yards, but Bush exasperated a minor problem into a big one by not doing his damn job. Why didn't he attack the ball carrier? Why is he going laterally when it's obvious he sees the RB with the ball? Oh wait, it's because he's too short or something :laugh:

You’ve taken enough Ls on this. Rename yourself L-Train and move on.

You want Bush to make a freak play and the lack of it is somehow evidence that he’s a bum. No, it’s not. Anyone watching that play without an anti-Bush bias will tell you it’s 50’s fail for getting blown up.

And held on 4 years too long, was exposed once AB went crazy and generally impeded progress.

Thinking he's entitled to play forever as a fat f*ck

Care to elaborate on the video segments and analysis I provided or just keep saying I have a bias?

Here's more from that link:

Section 3.

Clip 1
57 is the Mike in both these clips. First instinct is FORWARD. He fills the gap (weird how we have a pattern) gets stunned by a blocker, but because he's not moving laterally he's able to recover and make the tackle.

Clip 2
Essentially the same as above. He's got free blockers coming at him AND he has his teammates getting blown off the ball nearby (similar to the Bush clip) . He still comes forward and reduces the space between himself and the people in front of him. If he allows himself any more room backwards, the RB gets a ton more yards. Note in both instances he doesn't whiff on the tackle

I await your expert analysis because you played LB in HS

You’re providing “analysis” from someone who likely didn’t even play that much LB. BTSC is the same level of crap sports writing as Steelers Depot and the rest. It’s sports journalists acting like they know what they’re writing about, but in reality they really don’t have any great insights.

Now your resorting to comparing different circumstances. Just let it go.

Uh if you bothered to read the link, they weren't talking about LB's at all. They were (mostly) talking about the Pitt offense. So instead of focusing on our players, I decided to look at Sea's LBs to see if I was being overly harsh on Bush.

Considering you didn't bother to open the link up, I'm convinced you aren't interested in analysis, just defending your original position without any evidence/data/ or video clips of your own. Which is fine I guess, but just be honest that you have nothing to support your thesis.

Because we out-of-towners aren't inundated with Steeler info, it is a secret I guess. Some context and links for this statement would really help, please and thank you.
The teammates are obviously lukewarm to MR being the guy...anyone would be. Which is why he isn't the guy.

But as far as personally having problems with him, aside from some players thinking there's a chance he said the thing to Garrett I just don't see it.

I don't think literally ANYONE in the NFL (players/coaches) believes MR said the word

Uh, some athletes believe the world is flat. Mendenhall was a 9/11 truther. The consensus is broadly that he didnt say it. But out of...what, 2500 guys involved in the league? You'll have at least a hundred who thought he said it and maybe 2x-3x that who think he's a racist based on his politics.

But again, the teammates aren't endorsing him to take over at QB. Nor should they have? But by all accounts he will be a serviceable backup.

This is nothing. I don’t know how anyone knows Rudolph’s teammates don’t like him. What I have so far is people saying ‘it’s no secret’ and ‘it’s obvious’.

So in that same breath, if Trubisky plays better than his pro bowl year and we get to the playoffs, do you really cut bait and roll with Kenny? They’re about the same age. I know the assets would be decent, but what if KP sucks and we just got rid of a quality QB?

I feel like I’d keep Mitch in that scenario, I dunno.
Not in my book. If you find success with one of three you stick with them. KP can be a luxury back up if Mitch works out.

Lol…who said we can’t trade Rudolph….

Why would Detroit do that? They can easily get out of Goff deal this off season sure he is better than Boyle and blough but they will be drafting a QB high

He's not a decent veteran. He's a third string level QB. He doesn't have any leadership qualities, has an average to below average arm, and lacks pocket presence.

Steelers fans suddenly pumping him because they hope he'll bring back a decent draft pick are hilarious.
If a team thought he was a 3rd string level QB he wouldn't have been backing Ben up. When he was drafted it was spoken of how he was a great guy in the OSU locker room and how he lead the team. His arm is average. It's not incredibly strong, but he can make the throws necessary. His pocket presence is fine. Where he struggles is when his first read is covered and he has to start going through progressions. That is when he has a hard time.

The Steelers aren't going to get a decent draft pick for him. That's not how the league works. A 6th or 7th, at best, and it works out for a team, because the odds of finding a backup QB for a 6th or 7th is not typical.
