They can't possibly have assembled this offensive line + the decaying corpse of Ben Roethlisberger and expected to compete. I think they view this as a bridge year and I think they're going to get a top 10 pick for a QB next April. I'm just going to enjoy any football I can watch and looking at the pieces they have going into next year.

If that was the case, they wouldn't have taken a RB in round 1 last year IMO.

Apparently they should trade all their receivers - because reasons.

That will really help out the next QB for sure.

I still have a great fear they will rebound and push themselves out of the top 7-8 picks, but for now I’m enjoying the collapse.

That can certainly put them in range to get a new franchise guy. If he works out or not, that’s always a crapshoot like you said, but you can’t find the best guy by passively searching for 25 years again.

Yeah I’m not following the logic behind trading the wide receivers. I mean I guess if someone wants to throw a pick at you for JuJu you go for it. But DJ or Claypool? Ask the Jets or Jaguars how that’s turning out for them.

Isn't this upcoming draft supposed to be a weak class for QBs?

The Steelers have a knack for drafting WRs. Also we'd look to sell them for 1st RPs. I wouldn't take a 4th and a 6th or something.

Either way, I'm inclined to keep them but I think like 15 teams would love to have Juju right now. The ideal #2 receiver.

Makes zeros sense, especially when you consider they would get at best a second rounder for both.

They need to have some weapons for the new QB, whomever it is. Especially if they do draft a franchise type guy.

As we are seeing, even a guy like Lawrence needs help.

Ben is the biggest issue, but i also dont think putting a rookie qb behind this line will be very successful.

This is bad news bears. I say this in all seriousness, this team may have the 1st overall pick. Chicago and Detroit are the only 2 games I can potentially see us winning. I don't see us winning a single division game. This is a 5 win team, at best, unless they find a QB and an OL.

If this was Ben of 3 years ago, he'd of had 500 yards passing today. The plays were there. The execution was not.

Not to mention the abysmal playcalling.

I can understand their excuse being they're limited because of the QB and line, but have we run anything this year half as creative and effective as that simple route out of the backfield to the RB that GB pulled off on that 3rd quarter drive today that went for an easy 20+ with literally nobody around him?

You watch the truly modern offenses in this league, watch how they have guys running wide open on big plays, and you wonder if this team is even playing the same game.

I agree with you, but we're also playing against a condensed field due to the line, Ben's terrible movement and his bad arm. If the team doesn't respect you deep you can't hit those no-brainer plays underneath.

That said, I don't like Matt Canada at all. Serial job hopper who bombed at his previous...top gig at LSU. He fails upwards. He isn't qualified to be our coordinator.

Ben, the OL and Canada are a vicious circle of bottom-tier "players" at their positions.

Well in week 1 DJ was running wide open in week 3 Washington was running wide open and today juju was wide open 2 times the QB can’t deliver the ball anymore. He really limits the play calling

He was successful at Pittsburgh and Maryland they have barely attempted his offense

He was okay at Pitt running a gimmicky offense.

He stayed for one year. He went to the pressure cooker at Baton Rouge and was let go in a year.
Then he goes to Maryland and lasts a year.

Maybe some of this is circumstantial but I think most hiring managers would ask a candidate "why do you never spend over a year at a school?" It's flakey.

I'm just not a fan of the guy's career and certainly making him the heir apparent to Fichtner was eyebrow-raising. Like...maybe he is the guy. But since the offense sputtered and died last year, how bout the team also take a serious look at outside candidates?

Mac Jones looks so good in this game. It sucks that the Patriots were able to do this, but it legitimately seems like they found Brady's successor.

He was the story. It also helps that Josh McDaniels has decided he doesn't want to HC elsewhere after all (though I'm sure he'll keep dragging job offers into Kraft's office to get 20% raises year after year).

So one thing that will likely be overlooked, but if they end up 4th in the division by end of season. They'll likely have one of the easiest schedules in the league next season. A big reason why the cliche .
the difference is 2 games.

14 of 16 games are already decided ( 6 AFC north) (4 AFc division the north will play) and 4 (NFC division the acfn will play)

if they finish 4th, then they'll face the two 4th place teams in the AFC divisions the AFCN doesn't play

I think we're due to play the NFC west next year, so there won't be an easy schedule at all

edit. that how it was with the 16 game schedule. the 17th game may also get matched up with the same place in the division vs. an NFC team since we're facing Seattle, a 1st place team in nfc west in 2020

If I'm a New England fan, I'm ecstatic with that effort from Jones. I was unsure if he could be a franchise type QB, but he looked every bit the part last night. I think Jones greatly benefits going from Alabama to New England because the organizations are run the exact same way and are coached by the exact same style. That was a really good call by Belichick to go after a QB like Brown.

Additionally, it is really hard to watch AB for me, because he can still be a productive receiver. He really cost himself a chance at being THE best ever here, but it was just never going to work.

And thank God Randall Cobb doesn't play in the AFC. He is a Steeler killer. He's the type of guy that New England has that just destroys us.

AB was never going to be in Rice’s class IMHO - Rice has the video game stats, but he was the best money receiver I ever watched.

A special player who made special plays on special days will be his lasting legacy.

AB can’t ever touch what Rice did when it was do or die.

Rice’s playoff stats are bananas:

151 rcpt 2200 yds 22 Td

I doubt we ever see a receiver like Rice again - and I hated his ass when he played.

Play Haskins, see what he looks like with this team. Can't get much worse. Problem is, I think we'll actually be better and screw up our draft pick.

VW roasting JJSS.

Same thing I was thinking as well, but JJSS dances on the Tik Tock Clock thing so not his fault.

At least he manned up about it - better than Roth’s excuse.

This team at best is going to have 4-5 wins. They very easily could go 2-15 or 3-14. Other than the Bears and Lions, every team they have on the schedule is better than them, most by a pretty big margin.

That being said, this upcoming draft appears to be abysmal for QBs. I do not want the Steelers to reach just because they need a QB. Get the best player available, a great left tackle would be awesome.

They will have the most money to spend in FA of any team in the NFL. One or two starting offensive lineman, a CB, a backup RB etc.
