I haven't talked hockey here in years. This is the only thread I visit.
This thread and the music thread are the only ones I participate in these days. Switching to YouTube TV makes it way too hard to watch the Pens live so I can’t catch every game like I used to.

Every once in a while I’ll venture over to the general forums when a big trade goes down to laugh at the knee jerk reactions.

I'm a much more level headed hockey fan than football fan. I have been a season ticket holder for years and those are about the only times I watch the team anymore. The boards here were so much fun back when we sucked. There were guys here that watched these super obscure leagues and games...tons of knowledge and passion for prospects. Back then, tons of guys who were still bullshitting about old Pens stuff from the 90's, so it was a different element even there.

I can't talk about firing Sullivan (or Tomlin) much more. Sullivan more so because I think the problem is systemic and I don't think it's going to get fixed before Sid retires. I'll catch the games of kumbaya when I can, but I don't go out of my way to watch it - and I was the same way with the Steelers after Ben's injury. Just couldn't care less about them. I really watch to see TJ because he's a HOFer in his prime.

I’ve found these threads way more enjoyable after I started utilizing the “ignore” feature.

I would be one of the old posters you referenced @JTG . In fact, I was one of the ones who migrated here from another forum (from roughly 1999 to 2003) with a bunch of regulars like Olivier, etc. My username back then was craig1 (someone else on the boards must have it now). Had few thousand posts...loved digging in and debating on the likes of Vladimir Malakhov (sp?), Milan Kraft, Robert Dome, Ryan Whitney, Michal Rozival, JS Aubin, Luca Caputi...and the list goes on.

I only lurk nowadays (nowadays being roughly 18 or so years of just lurking)....and I rarely read the Pens threads outside of checking in on the salary cap thread. I mostly read the Steelers and Pirates stuff....like others, only have YouTube TV, so makes it hard to watch games.

I miss the old board, but a lot of us got older, families, etc....and don't have time for it, unfortunately.

I still post in a couple forums. But yea, I’m the same age as Sid, so I’ve chilled on being super crazy about the pens. This core has done more than they needed to for me.

Ya I’m one of the originals from 99 on up and never post anywhere but this thread.

Can’t remember what my name was back then before I changed to this one… lost my old username during the big migration and was annoyed I had to create a new username and password.

Then this commercial played as I was sitting there thinking of a username:

Peace!

No issue with KP as a backup. I don’t have a problem with taking a shot on him in round 1 either. He didn’t work out, but I’m happy we took a swing. My issue is if the team decides to double down on him, but it’s too early to know what their plans are at QB so I don’t wanna get worked up about hypotheticals.

For me, missing in Rd 1 with #2pick is much different than missing in R1 with the #22 pick.

Mitch T is the poster boy for missing out. I guess the silver lining for me is that they didn't trade up for KP and spend significant resources ala Devin Bush. So while I certainly wish KP showed more and can do more in time, I just don't see it. So I've got him pegged as high level career backup.

This is...uh....odd, to say the least. I almost guaranteed it's fake, but you could convince me that Bell as the RB3 would be something that could help this team.

This would be absolutely moronic for a number of reasons, but I'll give you the best one:

RB3 MUST play ST's. Do you see Bell running down and covering a punt?

It's almost assuredly not true and doesn't end up happening, but I think you could make a pretty easy case that it's a good move. The Steelers effectively only had 2 RBs last year, which worked really well but it's unusual to not have any RB depth. They had Igwebuike as their RB3, but he literally didn't even have a rushing attempt last year. Bell in a RB3 role as a receiving back and blocker would be a skillset that Warren and Harris don't really offer. You wouldn't want Harris or Warren to lose many touches to Bell, but Bell as more of a utility depth RB is a role I could see working pretty well.

I'm not holding my breath because you can get a receiving back and blocker RB3 in free agency super easily, and I'm unsure whether Bell would embrace the role requirements for a RB3 (namely special teams and not getting a ton of touches). But I think you could make a pretty easy case that you could make a role for him in that spot.

Bell has talked about wanting to make a comeback and said there's only one team he's interested in playing for

I feel like both guys are pretty solid as receiving backs. Not amazing maybe, but they run decent routes, rarely miss their catches and can get some YAC. Is 32 year old Bell really gonna be different?

This is the point.

He won't/shouldn't get enough touches to justify a roster spot. So what's the point unless he plays ST?

Harrison now roasting Tomlin/Art. Thank Christ

I think the expectations have become, we don't wanna have a losing season, you know, and I'm not throwing salt... or flack at anybody, but the Pittsburgh Steelers, you know, standard is to win Lombardi [Trophies]. When you go into that building, there's six of them sitting there, and right now, we're not even winning in a playoff game -- I don't think we've won a playoff game since 2016... so, you know, I think we need to get back to what the standard of a Pittsburgh Steelers legacy, the lore, is... Yeah, that's just not what it is."

He’s basically saying the same thing many of us have been bitching about for years.

Under Tomlin we went from being fans of a winning, historical franchise tied for most SB wins to “at least we aren’t Jets fans!”

Honestly, it’s a body and we only have 2 RB. Wasn’t he RB3 on the chiefs a couple years ago? He barely played the last several years and won’t get a significant contract. It’s a non-issue for me, TBH.

It could be a practice squad situation. He’d be RB4 and active if Najee or Warren were injured. I’ve always liked Bell so I’d be for this.

The Bell you last saw as a Steeler is not the Bell you'll get in 2024. He's donezo

I’m not expecting 2014 Bell. I have no clue what kind of player he is at this point, but at the vet minimum I’d be ok with him earning a spot thru training camp.

While probably true, he might be as good as most RB4s though. Like I've no idea how cooked he is, but most RB4s aren't exactly great.

It's crazy how fast things went down hill for Bell. He was on a hall of fame trajectory and then he pissed away a year of his prime with the holdout to chase money and could never really get back to the level he was at before that.
