I wouldn't mind the Smith hire if there was a good chance the team would also hire a new QB coach/pass game coordinator to oversee Pickett or whoever is QBing. But since there's no hint of that sort of move, it leaves me feeling like Art II is turning this organization into the Pirates - ownership that cashes in on easy money, cheapness with regards to coaching and player development, and a seeming satisfaction with mediocrity (at best).

Umm…

Looks like they are going to go with a passing game coordinator. I don't know shit about these guys, but none of their write ups are all that inspiring.

Arth - Chargers didn't have a great passing game last year with a guy like Herbert, but they did the year prior, so.....who knows? Of the 3, I guess he'd be my pick.

London - has spent most of his career as a running backs coach. Would rather have a QB specialist type. Unfortunately, he worked with Smith in Atlanta, so he might have the inside track.

Azzani - is a WR coach.

I'm alright with the Smith hire and the Pickett/Rudy battle. Grab 2 OL, another WR and let's do run and deep shots

I might take 3 o line men because Herbig Cole and Moore are FA next year znd and Issac will be 31. Unless Anderson is someone rgey fill can take over from Herbig. If they go RT at 20 and move jones to LT theres no room for Moore could see a draft day trade

Why? He is worth more to us than he is anyone else as a FA. As FA he is just 1 of like 5 guys for teams to bring in for backup roles. Minshew leads that group
I see him signing in Atlanta for the same opportunity we’re offering him

Rudolph has strong ties to OC Zac Robinson. Mason Rudolph and Drake London follow each other on IG. There’s some smoke.

I guess they could cut hienke and sign him but if they draft a pennix at 8 he isn’t in a better spot
I think because we aren’t going qb 1 round he knows here is at least qb 2

Taking a QB at 8 who isn’t Williams, Daniels, or Maye would be a pretty big reach. Either way I could totally see him being ahead of Ridder.

The thing about Atlanta and Rudolph is it feels like an impatient, owner interventionist team and a place that's had bad QB talent for a couple of years now. My guess - just a guess - is that there is a mandate, either formal or informal, to get a quality QB in there ASAP.

I dunno how they'd go about that upgrade but walking in and telling ownership and upper management that their starter next year will be Mason Rudolph would take a lot of guts. The only way I can see that happening is if they do something like trade down and pick up McCarthy in the 1st, or maybe use their early 2nd, and need a bridge starter.

So I absolutely see the connection with Robinson. And I can see a scenario in which it happens. I just think its not super likely. I think Robinson is too far down the totem pole and there's too much riding on this. It's like deciding that for your anniversary dinner, you're going to hit up some food truck that your friend swears is actually the best in town rather than picking a fancy restaurant. It's going to have to be amazing to make that a smart choice, and it's probably not.

My guess is they'd be right at the front of the line for Fields if the Bears move on.

WOW Ron Cook is retiring. An absolute legend in the Pittsburgh media landscape. Ugh, had a feeling this day would come but thought he’d stick around longer given how much he loves his job.

Best wishes down in FL, Cookie.

Robinson is the new OC — you think he’s too low on the totem pole to weigh in on a bridge QB? Rudolph could sign as a QB2. I wouldn’t be surprised by that at all.

how many swings & misses is Poor Little Rich Kid AR2 going to give HC Cliché
Where I am right now with this team is that Mike Tomlin is the coach, things are changing, and until this fails, I'm going to give Artie Smith a fair chance to turn this around. I'm excited to see what he can do. If this offense fails, we have nuclear problems - HC, OC, and QB need to be canned at that point.
