I'm not so sure Boyd is a good fit for an Arthur Smith offense. I thought he used very little 11 personnel, and Boyd is almost a pure slot WR. Or at least that's how the Bengals have used him, even in the post-AJ Green pre Chase/Higgins years.

We traded an average starting WR for an average starting CB. Both had bad contracts. I have no issue with this trade. This draft is extremely deep at WR and I think Boyd is still in play too.

The writing was on the wall for DJ after seeing Jeudy’s return.
I think that's a false equivalence. Carolina was going to cut Jackson. Maybe that's all they could get, I don't know, and if so, the return is what it is. But the idea of rolling into 2024 with Pickens, rookie, Boyd/rando #3, and Austin just isn't exciting to me.

DJ has traits you can’t teach and I never fully hated him. But also not upset to see him go. Just feel like you rarely see guys play like he did on winning teams.

This is correct. When you use 12 personnel as much as they do, slot WR are of very limited value. But Boyd is from Pittsburgh and went to Pitt so the drum will be beaten even if it makes no sense.

I don’t care who the WR is as long as it’s a guy who can handle the NFL and targets. I just don’t want a super old washed up guy or a rookie.

Get a good rookie, sure, but you can’t just rely on that if the guy flops or needs a year to get up to speed.

If they were going to trade dj for a cb then send him to kc for sneed.
After what he just went for how can you possibly think KC would have wanted him for Sneed?

Not sure if he’s still around but there was a poster here who was beating the drum about how they should have taken Metcalf over DJ….. looks like he was right after all

Yeah they absolutely need to add a solid number 2 in FA. People talk about how great the Steelers are at drafting WR, but they’ve had their fair share of misses.

You don’t want to risk your number 2 being a Limas Sweed, Markus Wheaton, Sammie Coates, Willie Reed, or James Washington.

Problem is that there really aren't many "solid number 2's" left in free agency. After Ridley, the best guy left is who, Hollywood Brown? DJ Chark? There's not much out there.

Because sneed is going to cost 4/76 coming off an injury. Kc doesn’t want to pay that

Yep and Ridey the best wr in FA could get 20 million aav

This is a good point about Smith’s offense. They met with these WRs at the combine:

Oregon’s Troy Franklin, LSU's Brian Thomas, Texas’ Adonai Mitchell, Florida State’s Keon Coleman, and Washington’s Jalen McMillan.

I’d be happy with any of them. Thomas tested extremely well at the combine, but I imagine we’d have to trade up for him.

Yeah and I think all those guys are like 6'3" or 6'4" except for McMillan (6'1") so maybe there's some truth to Arthur Smith being a size queen.

I’d still take Boyd on a team friendly deal, but Smith definitely has a type.

I guess Mitchell is also tight with GP from their time at Georgia. He never impressed me much when I watched Texas, but maybe that’s just because Xavier Worthy is a dawg and makes everyone look mediocre in comparison.

Boyd is just juju who went to Pittsburgh for college

Dionte Johnson for Donte Jackson sounds made up.

I don't love it and I was all for trading DJ. I guess Jackson at least gives them an option so they don't have to reach in the draft.

I think we have to wait to see what they do at WR before we can fully judge this one, though. If WR are this cheap, maybe they trade for one?

Sutton could be out in DEN and he had pretty good chemistry with Russ. Big dude and I think he's a pretty good blocker too? Two more years at like 17.5m is kind of yuck though.

Reynolds is still out there and was the number 2 for Detroit. I do think Boyd makes some sense even though he’s been mostly a slot receiver. I don’t think he’s incapable of playing outside and Smith runs really tight sets so it’s not really the same outside receiver responsibilities that we’ve seen for a few years.
