Yeah we absolutely need to come out of this FA period with at least 2 of the following that can compete for a starting job: S, CB, ILB, C.

Something similar to our Akhello Witherspoon signing a few years back.
Eh, he was traded to the Steelers the week of the opener. They better not wait that long to address these needs.

Ehhhhhh dontcha think that some of these spots are "reputation awards?" Especially ones like MLB where you can just claim a guy is awesome forever and he doesn't have to earn it through things like sacks?

Much in the way that, say, Pouncey at the end was all reputation award I think there's a strong case that Bobby Wagner is the same.
No, second team all pros are not reputation awards, after 10 straight years winning it.

$4.5 for 1 year is a genius payday.

Who would you take and at what cost. . . .

no they aren’t if they have decided that KP isn’t the guy they got the a super bowl 9 pro bowl Qb that can actually help TJ and the defense. The plan was always KP mason/tanahil wilson and a 4th round rookie
Most teams don’t have a succession plan at Qb

Seattle and Denver both dumped Wilson because he’s no longer the guy you just pounded your chest thinking he is.

That’s why Mark Schlereth called his play “garbage” this past season.

I’m thinking the former Bronco who watched him all season knows more than us.

So again, ya, the Steelers are wasting another season on KP.

This is what happens when you f*** up drafting a QB high, and have to dumpster dive because your team is now set back years.

Gardner-Johnson?
Wouldn't hate it I guess. I don't remember all the details but it seemed like he was a bit of a headcase in Philly.

Justin Simmons seems like the best available but might be out of our price range. FS too so not sure how well he would fit with Minkah.

Feel like we need a good tackling box safety. Kam Curl or Jamal Adams?

I don't know what PFF graded Wagner. Not that PFF is the be-all-end-all but MLB is a position where you can't manage by current production and the narrative around you can easily go from "wow this guy's a beast" to "wow this guy is a wily veteran leader" really quickly. Hard to get exposed at MLB.

Do you remember our experience with future hall of famer Patrick Peterson last year? Yeah, he sucked.

With the Pickett pick, I really have a hard time criticizing this team for going that direction when you look at the alternative QBs drafted in the past few years. It's just not been a good few years for QBs, and Ben happened to retire at a bad time for them to replace him. The 2021 and 2022 drafts ended up having bad QB classes and Stroud is the only guy who has played well in the 2023 class. It's not exactly encouraging.

They needed to take Love in 2020 to have a chance at having a legitimate franchise QB at this point, and they didn't have a 1st that year due to the Minkah trade. And frankly, Ben probably would have retired in protest had they taken Love in 2020.

Not sure who, but I feel confident we're going to have a decent free agent signed in the next day or so. Omar seems to like the first wave of free agents being snatched up and then looks for deals with a few players and quality ones at that slipping through.

There are always a TON of good players in free agency. I’m not really worried about filling holes. There’s still 10+ quality starting safeties out there.

I think it’s funny our new punter is 3 million a year on the books while our new QB is 1.2.

I'm still holding out hope for Onwenu at this point. I'm not a huge fan of the CB options available in free agency, so I'm good with using another high pick on a CB, but I really want them to splurge on the OL. Having Jones and Onwenu as your OTs looks awesome going forward.
I still like Henderson out of Carolina Jaclson at Carolina

Lawrence isn't exactly great for how hyped he was, either.

He's not a bust because he is a NFL starter, but calling him a "NFL starter" is about as much as you can give him credit for.

I'd say that right now Lawrence is a prime example that there's no prospect so good that he can't be dragged down by circumstances. Meyer was a big old giant mistake as HC and my understanding is this season has been a rough old mix of injuries, bad luck, odd coaching decisions and the rest of it. I do know that adjusted EPA puts Lawrence joint third per dropback this season rather than somewhere in the middle of the pack.

Yeah I'm not worried about Safety, but there's been a ton of LB's that got signed today. And this draft class seems weak at LB so other teams are prioritizing.

Queen, Lavonte David, Wagner the top guys still left according to this tracker:

I think Lawrence was extremely overrated as a prospect. When a guy plays at a powerhouse school that faces no real competition until January, you don't actually see him have to make plays to win games. He can just play the system and the system/talent around him dominates. Lawrence is just Mac Jones with 90% of Josh Allen's athleticism.

Note: this is also why I would steer very far clear of JJ McCarthy

Well, they've essentially placed themselves into the position of needing to draft C and CB high, and needing to reach is never a good thing. And if they do plan to trade Johnson, the WR crop is already pretty picked over as well.

There's no way Dan Moore Jr is a starter next year, right? RIGHT?!?!?!

o_O

I've just been sort of penciling in us taking another tackle this year but I may have to reconsider.

there’s a handful of C they can bring in Hennesey played c under smith in Atlanta. They are probably drafting a c round 2

I think they will either trade moore at the draft because he can’t play RT or he is the swing Ot. It’s in his best interest to plzy RT like Williams in cinc to help his FA opportunities

I'm pretty much not going to rule that out until the opening day of next season. They talk about him too highly and are too non-committal on when Jones goes back to LT to believe it's not a possibility.

Yeah I guess we'll see. Our corners are pretty dire too outside of JPJ. I honestly couldn't name another CB we have under contract besides Corey Trice until I looked it up.

It's still too early but I think the draft board will shape up nicely for us. I'm not anticipating a trade up like last year where the team felt there was a big dropoff at tackle after Broderick. Seems like there will almost certainly be a best player available CB, T, or C at pick 20.
